It seems pretty clear that a larger than usual section of fans may react very vocally and very negatively to the sale of Murphy.
If this happens there's a strong chance it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Shouting abuse at the team is unlikely to improve their performance.
If things do get ugly, and it might not take much, I'm wondering how best to support the team. I'm at a loss.
Responding to Baki on Twitter and Jim on fb seems like something, but not enough.
The abuse that Long, for instance, got was very ugly. I was behind that goal about 10 yards away but couldn't figure out how to positively affect the situation.
Last week I applauded (some of) the team off. Reed in particular, but others as well, but when your young club-raised keeper has been derided by purple-faced rage for half an hour it didn't seem like enough.
Barring miracles on the pitch, it could be much worse for the club as a whole today.
I think we have the best manager we could, a few quid in the kitty, an ambitious (the Prince in particular - why else is he here?), open and communicative board, and some good players. If we're not careful the situation could deteriorate horribly for the club as a whole.
We are transitioning from one manager to another, and are a work in progress but I think we are laying foundations for a strong sustainable future higher up the League.
I feel very strongly that we have huge potential but that is now at risk.
I want to do something to show my support. (Maybe even something others who feel the same way could join in with.) But what?
