Saw this tweet and it made me think back to before the season, when it may well have been a common misconception that if you stop Billy scoring you stop us winning.

This led me to think how a team could set up to nullify our goal threat, especially as we are up against told negative nige tonight.

After recent games you think teams would target Leon for extra attention but that leaves Billy free.

Doubling up on Duffy would be my idea but that will leave space for our wing backs and marauding CBs

McCarthy tried to match our formation, something NN likes to do, to no avail.

QPR did well matching our work rate closing us down but they were helped by a fluke goal and an off day from us. Good luck any team doing that and creating enough chances at the same time.

Norwich did a job on us and nicked a good goal, which I fear Burton will try tonight. We should have enough to break them down though. Should.

the only other way, IMO, is to have a real go at us and put us on the back foot. It takes a very good team to do that to us at the moment.

Go in this direction and we will be fine

think Negative Nige might try and park the bus

Why would we openly discuss how we think our winning team could be stopped and which teams tactics foiled us?

A very aggressive press directed against our three centre-halves, forcing them to look long rather than play the ball out from the back. Play two wingers high up the pitch, try and force our wing backs to stay back and cover them. Man mark Coutts and Fleck and try to stop them dictating the tempo.

Very few teams at Championship level have the personnel to do this in my opinion. QPR did some of it on a night when Fleck and Duffy didn't start. Most teams will rely on us having an off day, or on some of our starting XI being injured, suspended, or rested.

Referees are the ones who are most successful at stopping us, didn't see the Forest or Norwich games but felt QPR definitely and others who we did beat, when they struggled they went to clogging the players, and ok the occasional booking but nothing that slows their players down whilst 2 or 3 of our lads ended up with 'reducers'.

I think Bolton and QPR (and Leeds 2nd half) showed that getting physical and in our faces unsettles us a bit. Combine that with some actual skill and pace and we might be vulnerable. Are there any teams that can do both?
but we've got options of the bench to change things. Brooks with fat lad/Leon/the Don must give defenders nightmares

As the season goes on teams will, to an extent get used to how we play, always have always will, the thing is Wilder and Knill are aware of this and will keep changing tactics, keeping one step ahead.

Like anyone is thick enough to tell the world over the Internet how to beat us

Close our midfield 5 down. That’s the key. Everything comes through those 5 so go man for man and cancel them out.

But to do that they will need to be very fit and have lots of energy. Not many sides can do that for 90 mins against us

Even if any Utd supporters felt they knew how to stop us, surely they wouldn't be so stupid as to put those tactics onto the open forum of the Internet, for the potential benefit of our opponents, would they?

"Nigel stop talking, forget the game plan, I've just read the blades forum and they've told us how to win"

"What about the full weeks training?"

"Never mind that Nigel , It's on S24SU!"

"But I've been in football nearly all my life"

"Don't be stupid Nigel, nobody knows more than them lads"

Don't be soft :D

that's why we cone alive around the 60th minute mark

Well, I've just been reminded of how football works. You start every game with a point, and your first job is to hold on to it. If that fails, don't worry, continue to do bugger all. Repeat as needed.

You may sadly have now answered your own OP question - just knacker our metronome play maker and break his leg.

I hope it's not a turning point, but we had this league in the palm of our hand - we've just been dealt a bum deal.
