How to behave at football matches

FFS Jon. Don't mention nerves
I'm that nervous I get to the turnstile, have a panic attack and am afraid to enter the ground. I used to stand outside for the entire game, but everytime a roar went up I assumed the opposition had scored. I now go straight back home and don't turn on the radio or come on here until the game has finished.

It's not been an easy season following the Blades.

I love that now we're successful no-one is referring to each other as a clapper or a slasher BUT I think the loss of "friction" that used to cause is impacting the atmosphere because we're all in danger of sitting back, getting on together, and enjoying it.

As such, I think we need to do something to re-kindle our fire so I've been looking at recent threads to see whether there is anything which could get us moaning about and blaming each other but the only thing I can come up with (other than the Desso - not even the freehold) is a short discussion Ricky and I had on Satdi morning about nervousness. I think, therefore, that we need to pigeon hole people as either Nervies (who care so much they feel sick so can't sing) or Calmies (who can't possibly care because they don't feel sick so don't sing). We all know which group we belong to and the onus is now on each of us to prove the other group is the problem by singing more than them. You don't want to be in the group spoiling it for everyone do you?

Sorry about this but I'm on a train and bored ;)

The fans around where I sit have heard me sing and I've been threatened with violence,

What would you suggest I should do ? .....:)

It is indeed getting to the point on the terraces now where you are on the end of some gnarling looks from other fans if you dare to interrupt their silence.

I don't know where you all sit but it's always really noisy around my seat in Row Z. There are 2 lads sit just to the right in front of me and they spend at least an hour every match either starting or joining in a chorus of Sheffield United Sheffield United Sheffield United Sheffield United Sheffield United Sheffield United.

I'm a Nervie all right, except I DO sing because I find it helps me become a Calmie. My tummy was doing somersaults before the game last night because I knew that if we won it we would be within striking distance but that old gnawing Blades Feeling kept surfacing telling me even we could fuck this one up.

When O'Connell nodded us in front I actually felt sick and had to halt my celebrations and breathe in the fresh Sheffield air, although this probably had as much to do with a long journey up the M1 (a four-lifter, but in nice weather always a good day to hitch) with little to eat as any nerves. By the end I was so calm I was in a Zen-like trance with part of me regretting that United look unlikely to put us through the wringer this time.*

*I've said it now!

Yeah, but they're already fed up with you because you keep squeezing past them to get some more chips.
I have thought about sending an email in to the club requesting an extra promotion medal be addressed to Man Friday. I think it would be the least they could do to honour my contributions to the success this season.

I just wonder if letting go at matches has been taken so far by some idiots that people are afraid to get too involved these days, watching the genuine enjoyment that whole family's got from supporting teams like Iceland and Ireland in the Euro cup took me back a bit,
Maybe I'm looking back through rose tinted glasses but back in the days before fans had to be segregated, when it was just friendly rivalry between supporters and not an excuse for hooliganism by some, people seemed to be more inclined to show their support....
