Another match, same gear, same work rate, same sideways football, this time against 10 lower mid table men after leading early doors. Our team is morphing into Ryan Flynn.

If this is football, give me something else.

Would you like an ovaltine to warm your cockles?

i applaud anybody who went. i was convinced it would be off, and didnt fancy travelling for it to be called off right at the last minute. how many were there? must have been bloody freezing.

Wasn't as cold as I thought it would be, nor had they had as much snowfall as I imagined from the tweets of those in Notts.

We took a fair few, probably a few over 3k I'd say.

wow thats pretty good. i know its only dahn t'road, but the way weve been playing and the horrible weather im surprised that many made the trip. going on reports ive heard, its just a shame the players didnt turn up. yet again. :(

More effort, but tactics didn't work today. We needed to stretch the 10-men out, but we persisted with cutting inside with the ball in advanced positions, lost momentum and allowed Notts County to reorganised.

Tempo was far too slow again, we only went up a gear when we conceded.

How the bloody hel can you allow an opposition, down to ten men and one-nil down, to reorganise?

Not a sling-back question at you Rodley, just speaking rhetorically.

Just seen their equaliser.

What. The. Fuck?

Oh, and again. Defenders scoring.

We had early momentum (very early) and should have added a second almost immediately after the first. They have a man sent off early in the half so we have numerical advantage and then seemed to hand the initiative back to County. County could have had 2 or 3 in the first half

I thought we played better when they had 11 men in the first half. We were defending high up the pitch, pressing them and creating chances(Kitson in particular should have scored)

Player gets sent of and the players seemed to panic for 15 minutes. Then the last 10 minutes of the first half we played some good stuff.

Started well in the 2nd half...the way we did the first half then we seemed to relax(did the players think the match was won) and didn't press again until they scored. We were defending very deep which meant the link up play was long ball. We didn't start the 2nd half like that so it is fair to assume DW didn't tell them to defend deep.

What is alarming is our inability to defend set pieces. Just about every free kick and corner for them looked dangerous and with Long stood motionless on his line they kept attacking this weakness. Very surprised their goal went in thou...why didn't Long attempt to save it as it wasn't the most powerful of headers.

Higginbotham was excellent yesterday as was Ironside when he came on(although should have scored) but the form of Maguire is very worrying. Not winning headers, looks uncomfortable on the ball and his distribution is getting almost Williamsesque. He is becoming a liability at the back the last few games. As soon as Collins and Hill comes back the better as he can be rested and Hill's defensive qualities are desperately required.

Flynn was awful. I really hope the club bite the bullitt and get Williamson back

3058 Blades there yesterday witnessed a side lacking in confidence and belief. Down to the manager or the players lacking bottle ?

The players do lack bottle but when your manager is scared to death of losing what lead does that give them?

His tactics are niaive, conservative and he lacks balls - yesterday 1-0 up and then they went down to 10 men we should have gone for the jugular.
Any manager worth his salt would have looked at how they set up with ten men and then counter acted - look at changing formationand/or personnel to take advantage of their extra man!
To only draw from that position was criminal - its not a blip as some people say - it's purely down to the manager not having belief in his players to take advantage of the situation.

This season is turning into a typical Wilson second season - as a guy said on Praise and Grumble last night - 'It's not a bad day at the office - It's a bad office!'

In DW's defence,he kept on his 4 attacking players yesterday and kept his two wide men on the wings...the way we started the 2nd half it looked like he told them to 'go for the jugular' then for some reason we took the foot off the gas and backed off. His instructions or players lacking bottle we will never know..

My worry is that if the players aren't following Wilson's instructions(we were on the front foot at the start of each half which I assume is what DW asked)..either the players aren't good enough,or DW hasn't got the man management skills to ensure the players deliver for 90 minutes

In terms of changing the game,he was spot on in bringing Ironside on with 30 mins to go. From there,do you go for it or defend for the win ? Personally,I would have took Flynn off and put Whitehouse on so we out numbered them in midfield(they played 3-4-2 with 10 men)....yes this would have been negative but it was all about a win yesterday.

I don't think Wilson will go until the end of the season(if we don't go up) but something needs to change and maybe a look at our centre midfield pairing, our 'star' centre half and goalkeeper would be a start

Can't disagree with any of that. It was clear as day to anyone who was there that we are a poor side at the minute, and we deserved to lose that yesterday. Flynn didn't even try and cut inside yesterday. Maguire was poor once again. Westlake is sub-standard, Doyle didn't even try and pass the ball forwards. Blackman was a greedy bastard yet again. Murphylacked confidence, Long seems to be going backwards.

This is the worst United team in years, and I'm fully expecting to end the season in around 8th place, unless either Danny Wilson shows some bollocks and changes this about, or the club shows some ambition and get on the blower to Nigel Adkins.

When the opposition are reduced to playing three makeshift centrebacks it's generally time to push your full-backs forward. This is elementary stuff.

They did push forward....unfortunately our midfield pairing can't pass forward

It does appear that there are several factors:
Long and Maguire appear to be going backwards
Williams and Westlake are just not good enough
Midfield pairing of McDonald and Doyle not as effective as last season
Flynn does not have the confidence to beat a man
Blackman is a greedy bastard
Murphy has no confidence - this a guy that couldn't stop scoring in his last few matches in Scotland

Sorry guys - all these factors point to one man - Wilson!
I rest my case

Bit harsh on Blackman and Murphy,Fiery, but hard to disagree with the rest

Flynn moved to the right, Murphy to left wing, Blackman up front. Any thoughts on the thinking behind and effects of those changes?

I am not a fan of loan deals for players, but I can't help thinking a couple of experianced players in until the end of the season might just shake things up.

There must be a 28 something or thereabouts in the reserves of a premiership team itching to get back in the shop window, hungry for a challenge, perhaps with a view to a permanent move (subject to promotion) that would fit the bill.

We can afford a couple of months salary. Someone to compete with Doyle would be a good start.

Flynn is not good enough I'm afraid and the sideways passing of Doyle and KMac means it makes it more difficult for wide players.

They were troubled by Murphy a few times due to his pace but he kept cutting onto his right foot. Flynn on his natural right hand side(as many have asked for) still didn't take anyone on.

At times,Blackman's hold up play was good but he didn't have much chance to use his dribbling skills as County defended deep for most of the time due to the pace we had(which is why I couldn't understand why we kept defending so dee in the 2nd half.)

It would be interesting to see Murphy on the right,Blackman on the left with someone down the middle to support Kitson(Cresswell or Ironside) with one of the central midfield players pushing on as Mike Trusson used to do...get the ball wide and get crosses in. The worry with this would be we would be exposed defensively down the wings. However,I wonder if DW may drop Flynn and bring Whitehouse in to strenthen midfield and the he can push KMac further forward leaving Murphy and Blackman to support from wide

I still think that if we win the next couple of games,we have a chance of auto but the team seems so devoid of confidence I cant see it

Whatever, we the paying public think of Wilson, he won't be going anywhere! - McCabe's Stooge
What is needed is for Mr Wilson to answer his critics, grow some balls and get out there and do the job he is being paid for!
As a man who has spent his life in football he cannot fail to see the shortcomings of the team:
The lack of desire, sideways passing, deep defending, lack of confidence, lack of width, failure to capitalise on advantageous positions
He also must see what we see with the shortcomings of certain individuals Doyle, MacDonald, and Co
Bringing Cresswell back is not the answer !
Mr Wilson go out and do what you need to and show us that you are the man!

To be fair to DW's match analysis, it was what he didn't say that make me think he was seething with the players for throwing away 2 points, when the match should have been stitched up by 60 minutes.
Long took his mind off the game and was caught flat footed and let in a goal he should have had covered, but the trouble was they all seemed to take their minds off the game and were waiting for a nice warm bath at the end of it.
DW needs to kick arse and bring in some more kids, who will be eager to show what they can do. Start with Ironside leave Kitson on the bench, Cresswell's days are over do I need to go on.
We needs some points, we are now 8 points adrift, and can't wait for Collins to get back in.

Good challenge. Our approach in the final third is dire at the moment. Three players in particular need a hard look at themselves, Doyle, Flynn and Blackman's contribution was nowhere near good enough. McDonald is trying but his decision making and ball in the final third just isn't there.

I would be leaving Flynn out and giving Whitehouse more game time if Doyle can't impose himself on games
