Duffy is a class act. Not perfect. Getting on a bit I suppose. But so much better than Carruthers.
I like Carruthers, but his "pace" isn't anywhere as good as Duffy's intelligence and skill. I just hope he can learn and develop enough to eventually replace a 35/36 year old.

It became clear last year that Duffy's a bit old and slowing to play that role at the intensity we want week in, week out, for a full season. Shame there's no cure for getting older or we'd build a team around him and Fleck. He sets the bar for where we need Carruthers to be.

Wilder's finally proven at the Lane that you can deliver the hard work and intensity Blades fans demand and not sacrifice good passing football. I hope we never look back. I'm feeling confident again after today, but even if we don't get what we want from this season we need to all realise that the style we're trying to achieve is absolutely the best one for long term success.

It comes down to this: I can accept not having the biggest budget in the division. If we lose out because other clubs have tens of millions to chuck around then that's a fault with the game and not our club. What hurt was being horribly mismanaged and watching season after season of drab, boring football.

Coutts is the best and most consistent of the lot for me, but ageee it's so good to see 3 talented footballers occupying that position.

We've come along way since the midfield 2 of Doyle and Montgomery at Hillsborough in 2012.

Coutts lacks one vital part to his game. Defending. He happily watches players go past him and even when he loses posession dosen't bust a gut to rectify his mistake. Can't head a ball which for a big bloke is surprising and dosen't shoot anything like often enough.Suppose if he had those vital elements in his game he wouldn't be playing for us.

It's good to see fans arguing about the good in midfield - is a far cry from the woeful midfielders such as Doyle, Monty etc we've had to endure since the Mcall, Brown Tongue creativity.

Wilder has made a mug of many of his predecessors over the past 10 years who failed to get a midfield and defence sorted.

If Adkins was still here he'd still be chasing after Burn we'd be in the 4th division and Hammond would be our captain.

That's me needing a new cup of tea

Loved Coutts' Zidane moment yesterday.

It was in the build up to Sharp's miss at the back post in the 2nd half. He took 3 players out of the game seamlessly. Let it run across his body, cut back inside then knocked it around the 3rd man and ran onto it. Quality.

Him and Fleck were both good yesterday.

For someone who has lauded Coutts for 2 years, I was a bit disappointed with certain aspects of his game yesterday.

On the ball, fantastic as ever.

Having seen a genuine improvement in the defensive side of his game in the first 3 matches, I felt he slipped from the standards set. Seemed to give up all too easily when more determination / aggression was required.

As has been said, if he had even a bit of the Kante / Wanyama about him, he would be a PL player all day long.

I commented to my mate that was like watching Zidane at the time, class.

Absolutely, because Coutts has played in European finals and World Cup finals and managed Real Madrid.
Fucked if I know how he finds time to turn out in the Championship.

If you don't play the game it is simple. If your analysis stops at 11 v 11 game of two halves and 90 minutes then you have it. Fortunately for us Wilder thinks a bit more about the game.

Watch the game against Man U in 1992 (where Deane scored first ever Premier League goal). The difference between then and now is staggering. The quality of the players (this was a Premier League game against the previous seasons Champions) and the quality of the football was woeful. I'd hazard a guess Wilders lot now would piss on both teams from 92. Different game you see. They are fitter, faster and better athletes.

If you don't think we are blessed to have this midfield 3 then that is fine, we can agree to disagree but on the first point you are a mile out.

Leeds were the previous season's winners, Man United won it in 92/93
