We have Nigel Clough as our manger this season he has achieved the remarkable feat of taking us from 7th in the third division all the way to the heady heights of 7th in the third division, an just think all he has had to work with is the largest budget and the largest fan base in the division, what an achievement.

I think the board must have him in and extend his contract to ten years, by the time that decade is up I am sure we would by then be safe from any thoughts of relegation n to League two, and be firmly established as one of the best top of the middle of the league table teams in League one

In Nigel we trust

So what you mean is you want it all and you want it now.

How lucky we are that the ball is not yours to take in.

Personally, the thought of getting promoted scares the shit out of me. All those massive clubs, those hotbeds of footballing tradition (and I don't just mean Bournemouth) with there massive crowds. Let Yeovil's recent experiences be a warning to all those who dare to reach too high. I like 7th in League 1, it suits our hard won status as nearly men (and women). So, let's hear it for the third tier!

Roll on 2019.

Clough said it was a three year plan when he came, some need to buy in to that.

Youth needs time because it is youth.

Of course I think SUFC having found themselves in the 3rd division should be romping it and sucess is coming too slow but it will come and it will come with Nigel.

2019 will be promotion to the Premiership by the way.

Reed will be 20/21 and we will be able to tell Liverpool to do one.

Yes, roll on 2019 when the same old faces will be on here moaning about everything the club does, irrelevant of where we are at the time. I accept everyone has their opinions but some posters seem to take too much enjoyment from moaning about all things clough or united. Today was crap, we all know that but the season didn't end today, maybe just the top 2

Without contrasting views, free speech and ambition by some to see SUFC do better than struggling in L1 we wouldn't need a forum to debate, express views and yes, complain.

Maybe it's you that holds the ambition of the club back blinded by winning a few high profile cup games that lined the clubs pockets!

Today made the top two more difficult to acheive, only three more loses now.

Top 2 rules out by beginning of Feb. Sure, it's later than last season, but it's a bloody disgrace.

It was over months ago anyone thinking different was kidding themselves. A total shambles. Take the cup games out of it and it's been embarrassing, as appose to respectable with them.

Is there any point wishing for promotion with this squad? Always best to go up with the nucleus of a squad that can compete up there. Not that we shouldn't have something approaching that by now, but we haven't obviously.

Clough started a new rebuild last month and got exceptional funding to do it. A number of players will have to be moved on as the size of the squad is embarrassing, but who'll have them? Looks like it will take a long time to bed in the new players and shift the others. I'm coming round to the acceptance that we are nowhere near good enough to go up never mind compete in the Championship next season.

The remarkable successes in the cups has masked the shortcomings of the squad at third tier level.

Blades lose, you start a thread about it. Your up there with death and taxes.

After the match yesterday it was the first time this season I looked to see how far away we were from the bottom 4 and then started worrying where we will pick up the points to stay up

Yes. We were that bad.

Now I understand, I always wondered what was holding united back and now I know it's me ! I shall now change the way I show my support, I shall no longer give them any money as it'll only "Line the clubs pockets" and at every opportunity I shall say how poor the manager is and how he's made us an embarrassment. That'll get us up

There you go ;)

And I will sing the praises of the board over the past 5 years, proclaim NC the solution to all our problems, hail a new system of playing called the chaos system that utilises a large crowd of players with an average height of a kinder garden class

Why are you so sure Clough will deliver success?

What I see on the field (dull, negative football) is reflected in a career that progresses his clubs at the same rate as an athsmatic ant with heavy shopping.

When should we want it?

I'm sure the higher we are in the football pryimid the more suited Clough will be to the job, games against higher ranking teams prove it.

Getting out of this league is his problem but because of the above we need to stick with him.

He is changing us to a footballing club.

I've thought about it a lot - sure everyone has - but apart from a settled 11 and starting to want to win instead of keeping that fucking point they give us when we kick off I don't know the answer.

You say "proper football" but I find the vast majority of football under Clough very boring. He tends to get away with it because we finish well.

If only he was less cautious.

To me it's been a long time since I've seen United be as comfortable on the ball as we are sometimes under Clough, that's progress and why I mention 'proper football'.

Results are taking longer than I'd like but Rome wasn't built in a day and we are now building something for the first time in a few years.
That's worth hanging on for.

Clough said it was a three year plan when he came, some need to buy in to that.

Stalin had a 5 year one (several of them), Sir Robbing Wales had a 10 year one to make Newham in London a place people want to work, live and stay (he failed -its an even worse shithole than ever) so forgive my skepticism around X year plans. What they both had in common was to surround themselves with "yes" men. Personally I doubt Nigel has 3 years unless things improve on the pitch.

I see little point in (or probability of) us changing Manager right now and I think we are stuck with Nigel and the team he has bought - not many players left from the previous regime so he cannot finger point -so all we can do is hope they collectively turn it around. To paraphrase a famous manager - they got us in this mess so they can get us out of it.

Yes we are more attractive (in the second half) but what counts is results - there are no prizes for looking pretty. I'd take an ugly win over a pretty defeat. Right now though the only pretty we are is pretty dire when it comes to the League and have been for months. Hopefully Nigel ( when he is backed into a corner by the results and going for the jugular is the only option) will shrug off his underdog mentality (which works against higher calibre teams) and realise it won't work in a League where we should be the topdog (turnover, budget, finance, support).

The season is not lost (yet) but could well be by the end of February. I desperately hope we can make the playoffs - sorry but automatic seems nothing but a pipe dream and a mathematical possibility. Realistically we have a chance ( not a certainty) of the play-offs. UTB

We will have this conversation again in September when we are still mid table League one and getting 13,000 home gates

That's where we disagree. I don't see what we are building. The football is crap, not getting better and not looking like getting better.

On top of this, the squad building has been an utter shambles.

To our credit, I doubt we've got many that would be difficult to move on. The vast majority are competent. If only we'd gone for a small number of high quality players instead of a ridiculously high number of slightly above average ones.
