How long..

Because every player in a winning team must be performing perfectly? Because as long as you get 3 points there's never any room to improve?

At least somebody knows the biggest room in their house.

Starting from here and now, we'll get more points if Leon starts than if Natt does. There, done.

Without wishing to start an arguement (I use BM for that) I'd be interested to know how many goals Sharp/Clarke have as opposed to Sharp/Done.(Appreciate Sharp/Clarke haven't started many games)
I thought it was generally accepted a Sharp/Clarke front 2 wasn't effective?

I'm torn a bit on this, he should be scoring more and there's 3 players on the bench that are in better scoring form.

On the other hand he's part of a system that just keeps winning, I'm unsure of the knock on affect to the rest of the team if he's dropped.

I'm more sure Basham shouldn't start but again we are winning so I'd just leave it at least for now. Not even at xmas yet.

Similar thoughts to this. Done was also useful today when we wanted to stretch the 10 men and moved him out wide and I think people underestimate how many problems he causes for opposition. It is tough to defend him though when he misses a one on one after the two great chances he missed vs. Ches, and more so when Scougall comes off the bench and scores again.

Good problem for the manager to have in my opinion and glad I don't have to make that choice.

18th post in 6 years , and a repetition of several similar posts. I smell a wind up merchant

You just can't drop a player like that after the form we've been in. We're scoring loads, he isn't, but if you look at the bigger picture, a player like Done opens up the pitch for others and allows more space for them to play.

We score most of our goals in the later part of matches because of our new way of playing, which Done thrives at.

But yeah, try and shoot towards goal more often lad.

The attacks on here against Done are really perverse - he consistently causes problems for the opposition, attacking and pressuring defenders, creating space for others to score goals. Please, get off his case - it's working under him, and an insult to Wilder to continually question his team selection, that is clearly working ...

One game soon Done will end his dry spell and the floodgates will open. All sttikers go through periods when they dont actually hit the net, but Done just doesnt score goals he ties down several defenders freeing space for Sharp to exploit. Id bet Billy doesnt want Done dropping hes looking great because of him

Posted this on another thread but I'll stick it on here aswell....

Really can not agree with these comments. Now I'm far from Done's biggest fan but for the first 30 mins today (i.e. when we put the game to bed early doors) Done was absolutely killing them down the left hand side where he kept pulling off and Coutts picked him out every time. His movement was excellent and Shrewsbury simply couldn't fathom out how to pick him up

He wasn't killing them with his crossing though. The best cross from the left side in the 1st half was Fleck's.

I think Done gives us loads of movement and he unsettles defenders, but surely he has to score more than he does, as a striker?

I was correct about Top Scorer Billy Sharp, I was correct about Stefan Scougall and his invaluable contribution throughout the season. And I will be correct about Matt Done.

Time you all grew up and stopped picking targets for potshots....

Some people can't see what Done brings to the team. I don't understand those people. Wilder likes what Done brings to the team, which is why he picks him.

Some people can see what Done brings to the team and accept his other limitations whilst we are winning. I understand that. There is a well worn mantra of never change a winning team and especially so when the team is the highest scorers in European leagues. There is also an equally well known phrase of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Other people can see what Done brings to the team, but believe others may do as well if not better. I can understand those people. It is a legitimate view as they compare effort and continuity but a failure to convert against pedigree and potential.

Who is correct? Only Pinchy knows.

Heaven knows I have been critical of team selections in the past.

But this team has won 10 and drawn 3 of its last 13 games. The manager appears to know what he's doing. I did not think these players were capable of such a run. If he thinks Done is worth a shirt, that's fine by me.

Done is missing far too many easy chances, granted we've got away with it as everyone else is scoring but the chance today was an awful miss. One that would have made a difference if he'd scored was the one on one against fleetwood, if he had scored that it might have been 3 points instead of 1, we can't have a striker who misses at least one easy chance every game

Scougs would be easily before him in my opinion, even Chapman looks to fit in better.
It's time Chapman got a run, 3 goals in his last game, come on, surely a better option than Done at the moment??

Duffy recent injury , sadly , means Chapman is about to get an extended run out for us .

Chapman ...... A world beater one minute and then Mr invisible for the next 5 games

We can while we are scoring another 3 a game

In Done's defence today, the save made off his second half chance today was superb. But he desperately needs a goal for his and the team's sake.

Can't agree JD. From where I was in the SS (directly in line with Done's chance in the second half), he 'opened up his body' and practically showed their goalie where he was going to put it.

Anyway, I agree with most others. Done is not an out-and-out striker but contributes massively to our energy and build up. I think a more pressing problem is attack. Like last season, we're far too reliant on Sharp's goals. He's got 12 and the next-highest is Scougall on 4, yet people seem to think 'we're scoring from everywhere'. We're not. It's taken another eleven players to get the other 20 of our goals - hardly prolific. Maybe Clarke will return fully-fit and form a good partnership with Sharp, but I'd love to see United nip down to Chesterfield in January. A Sharp/Evans dual strike force? The mouth waters.

We've already got one called Billy. Fortunately the team are creating more than one a game.

I've not heard/seen any abuse thrown at him thus far. I simply asked how long does he have in the team whilst not scoring any goals? I personally see wilder unwilling to rock the boat whilst things are going so good but I also predict the questions of Dones carelessness in front of goal to rear its head when results take a slight dip.
You've answered your own question. When results take a dip.

UTB

For those that are so narrow minded, a goalscorer is about far more than just scoring goals. Maybe Clarke might score more but would he contribute an equal work ethic as Matty? We've already seen that when Done isn't playing the midfield have there hands full when the opposition defence has the opportunity to bring the ball out. Yes he has missed some chances ((Fleetwood and Chessy 2nd half) but the keepers have made some blinding saves as well (yesterday, Chessy first half). It's fair to say he doesn't get as many chances as Billy yet probably creates more. His goals will come, he won't be in Billy's league but he contributes massively and in a run of 10 wins and 3 draws with a bucket load of goals I can't see what the problem is. If we dip and Wilder feels he needs to alter things, fine but there seriously can't be no complaints at the moment. If people think we should be scoring every chance and smashing teams to bits I'll have 2oz of whatever they are on
