Watched it on my sky go thing straight away. Blatant pull. Madine is winning that ball otherwise. Awful decision. Pulis whining about our free kick is pathetic considering the non-penalty
 
I thought the ref made some bizarre decisions both ways in fairness and Fleck was lucky to stay on the pitch . But yes that should have been a penalty
 
i had to watch quest when i got home. as live i just couldnt understand how our players can be hauled down 3 times in quick succession 2 in the box , 1 outside. & ref deemed it legal. crazy, but funny how pulis forgot to mention that in his moaning
 
Not sure about the first claim, but theb2nd one was a stonewaller. He was being wrestled to the floor. Pathetic decision not to give it by the ref. And it's not a case of sour grapes either cos we still won. The ref tonight was piss poor (as where his assistants who seemingly didn't have the nous or the bottle to make a decision themselves).

I thought Fleck was off too. I was over in JS stand but looked 2 footed and studs up. Seemed to go on forever before ref let play continue. I was expecting a red card.

How many times do you see linesmen wait for the ref to make the call before raising the flag for a throw in?

A couple of minutes before our free kick which we scored from I noticed Wilder and Knill having a right go at the lino, holding three fingers up to indicate how many decisions he'd not given.
Interesting that he didn't hesitate to give that one then............. I don't think he dared do otherwise.

Would have to disagree, Fleck wasn't out of control and his feet weren't off the ground, a red would have been very harsh. Admittedly I had the benefit of seeing a replay of it.
 
There is an element of bias amongst fans with these decisions because the ref will be taking into account the shenanigans before the actual event which causes the controversy. In 99% of cases the CH and CF are involved in a grappling match long befor the ball is crossed and the ref is taking this into consideration along with the final so-called infraction. Which is why 99% of these so-called penalties are never given.
 
Re: Fleck's tackle. Five years ago that's not even a foul. Maybe even a few years ago it's not a foul. But there seems to have been a clampdown on those kind of tackles and any kind of "front-on slide tackle" (can't find a better way of describing it) will be a foul simply because your studs will be up 99 times out of 100 and you'll inevitably follow-through. Fleck was saved because he basically kept his studs down as best as he possibly could. But those tackles are like a red rag to a bull now with refs.
 



Two of the 'challanges' on Madine wouldn't have looked out of place on a rugby pitch, go up a division no questions asked, it's a pen, why not in this division?

Watched most of the game again when I got home, Fleck's studs were down and he wasn't high, slightly reckless but he took the ball
 
Agree, Flecks was never a red, he went in hard but it was one footed and studs were not showing. It was only cause Mikel was rolling around pretending to be in agony trying to get him sent off that it looked bad. Mikel was then surprisingly fine straight after, funny that.
 
Is there a website that has extended highlights? I'd like to see some of these incidents again as a few were hard to judge at the time but Sky's highlights are terrible.
 
Fleck's wasn't a foul but these days they're always given. Never a red though, at no point were his studs up or anything, Mikel's acting the cunt trying to get him sent off.
 
Did anyone have a better view of Sharp’s offside goal. Looked close form middle of the south stand but we did wonder would it have gone in without intervention?

I'm with you on that. If any players gets a red for a challenge like that we might as well all pack up and go home. Even a yellow was bad enough for me, yes it was a bit of a lunge but he was in complete control of it and won the ball cleanly. Tackling is s dying art because it's so easily punished, we aren't far away from standing tackles only I fear.

The former’s non-award is in my view influenced by the tendency of the latter. Officials will as part of their preparation for games be aware of players that have gained a rep for taking a tumble, and I’m afraid that although I think Madine is proving an excellent signing this is something that has already been really obvious in all his games so far. It was the same with Fjortoft, who similarly saw clear fouls not given based on his tendency to fall over looking for stuff.

Except for the foul for the free kick from which we scored. The one and only non-offside/thrown-in decision given by either linesman.

From my view on the Kop I didn't think it was going in before Sharp poked it home but I'd also like to see it again, just to be sure

Fleck was also clipped by their player causing him to stretch to win the ball, looking slightly off balance. And it seems that the ref gave the foul.

Yes, it's physically impossible to slide into a challenge without the studs being shown, you'd have to slide and cock your ankle back on itself to avoid showing the studs, and you'd probably break your own leg in the process.
The foot being raised above the ground, especially over the height of the ball is what should result in a sending off
It's reached a point where any slide tackle receives a hail of protest to the referee to get the red card out

Looked very offside from the replay. Not even a hint of it being marginal, and the right decision.
