How far behind do you think we are??

Agreed. With Lowton gone it's the beginning of more wilderness years. The merger gets closer!

You are right, the loss of a right back is a disaster for the club and will mean relegation to Division 4. It must be really difficult to find a league 1 right back (or championship loanee) who could fill the gap and be good enough to play at the level we are at..... or....

But maybe we should wait to see what the squad is at the beginning of the season before we sound the death knell for the club. We will sell because of the position we are in. It is not about ambition,it is about survival financially becuase of the way the club has been mismanaged..it doesn't mean that we won't have a good enough squad to challenge this coming season

How can we stand in someones way that wants to play in the Premier league? We need to realise that we cant stop these players moving onwards and upwards. At this moment all teams in a higher league have more pull on players

Hows about a new concept and way of thinking .............. we keep hold of these young players for a few years who are not on massive wages then they get their chance to play in the premiership wait for it............................. with Sheffield United.
Walker, Jags, Cahill all have worn the Blades shirt as well as the England shirt makes you wonder were we could have been if we had not sold Jags at a stupid price, virtually given Walker away or paid the £8m asking price for Cahill who was excellent for us the best loanee we have had in years.

If Warnock hadn't fucked up we would have kept Jags and possibly had a chance of signing Cahill. At the time, the money for Walker was good(hindsight says we have lost out) but the money received for Naughton at a time we were financially in the shit was good business.

Since Robson,we have been bailing out which means we have suffered due to McCabe's decisions. Due to these we are in League 1 and if someone comes in for players,it will be difficult to keep hold of players. Villa will have probably offered over £10l per weel for Lowton to play in the premier league. If we rejected that, just think how pissed off the player would have been which surely would have affected his performance. The same will apply for Harry if an offer comes in. I don't like it but we have to be realistic until (hopefully) we get promoted)

You mean the "stupid price" that he and his agent insisted on being inserted into the contract?

Well we all agree it was a stupid price but hey ho if we had managed a draw with Wigan we wouldn't be debating the point.

Hindsight ought to be telling us selling off the best players results in relegation FFS we have had it drummed into us for 45 years and still the melon heads can't take it onboard and grasp the idea. Same as some fans can't grasp the truth that a team that buys up young talent, or holds on to it, or even holds out for a eye watering price to re-invest in the squad ultimately moves up the leagues. The quick buck and hope someone cheaper will do a job idea has never worked and never will work.
So tell me again was selling Naughton good business or even good for Naughton who has just been loaned out all over the place and who's career has ground to a halt due to the guy who went with him for peanuts turning out to be a better player ???

Fill the gap? You talk about potential players like a board member.

"Blind in one eye and glass ankles you say? He can fill the gap left by the best full back in the division, here have 5 year contract with no relegation clauses"

Sheffield United, filling the gap since 1889.

Ahhh loans. Alot of good they have done for us over the last couple of years.
Infact lets just sell the entire first team squad & replace it with loans from the Championship.
Surely that will mean promotion as they came from a league above?

Hindsight also tells us we shouldn't gamble like we have for the last 4 seasons and leave ourselves in the financial mire.Waht we haven't done is reinvested the money correctly and wasted it on Messrs Robson,Hendrie,Ugo,Naysmith,Evans etc. If we hadn't,we would have kept our young players

As for Naughton, great deal for the club for a good player that Spurs vastly overvalued

Did great for the club across the city last season thou. Trouble is some of our previous managers chose players like Nyron,Bent etc when they were clearly not what we required.

Absolutely. Were it not for their 2 loan wingers it would be the pigs facing another season in League 1.

Who cares about that lot from S6.
Im talking about US. Loans have done sod all for us over the past few years.

We didn't gamble, we were stupid....or at least the chairman, the board and the management team were. Fucking hell, did anyone seriously get excited over any of our signings during/since the Warnock era? We have signed some right shit. Crocks, has beens, never has beens, famous names who were never going to do anything for our club. Only one who was a reasonable success was Beattie, and even he was frowned upon because some were jealous of his cash.

We have been a selling club for years, we always knew that but McCabe told us different. He told us he was serious, that he was going to get us into Europe, and he may have believed that. Just a shame he hasn't got the foggiest idea about how to run a successful football club. For all his cash the man is a pauper in the big league, he's a small man with small ideas and he's turning us into a small club. His heart may be in the right place, but his head has well and truly fucked us up.

a lot of what you say is right...but what is the realistic solution ? Until someone comes along to buy out McCabe nothing is going to happen in terms of running the club. Even if McCabe decides to write off his debt,we would still have to find someone to run the club within reduced budgets and without stitching us up further.

So with McCabe here for the foreseeable future.there appears to be few ideas as to how we can move forward within the financial constraints we now have instead of looking backwards and stewing over what went wrong

McCabe has said for a couple of years he wants out, but wont leave without getting his money back.
With the exception of a couple of Chairman, you NEVER get your money back.
I wish we had Dave Whelan at the helm. Imagine what we could have achieved with someone like him. a man who genuinely does the best by the club & will walk away when the time comes without asking for a penny back.

That is 100% truth, and I'll tel you where it's gone on players like Montgomerys wages! We've been carrying them season on season, season ticket money goes in about a month seen as we only sell 10k a year

yeah but Monty puts in a shift gives a 110% blah blah blah :)

I'm still struggling with the concept of keeping players against their will. How can you make a player stay and get the very best out of them.....how?! For those arguing we should keep our young players and refuse all offers from clubs higher up, do you honestly think the player will respond well to that? If they want to go, sure you can stop them but long term no party involved will benefit from it.

The other issue of course is finance. Being as where reportedly above 65% of our turnover in terms of salaries, surely the transfer fee will enable us to increase turnover and enable us to work with a bigger budget? These decisions have to be made.....we're a third division club now, beggars can't be choosy.

we get between 15 and 10 thousand fans per game.. most other teams at this level get around 3.. where does all the money go then?..
monty quinn and cresswell?? we are well and truly stuffed until next year when their contracts expire.. staying in the division will be a success in that case

Didn't Huddersfield turn down bids for Jordan Rhodes last summer? If they did reject bids, then the only impact it had on the player, was to play our of his skin for his current employer.

I don't think there was any firm interest from the Premier League though; just West Ham. I would have thought that Lowton would have been more reticent about a move to Ipswich or Derby than Villa.

A classic example of what happens when you keep good young players, what division will Huddersfield be in next season ??? don't all shout at once

Answered your own question really. Its those senior players that are assumed to be on 5 figure a week salaries. I wouldn't like to speculate that it is in fact the case but one would have to assume there is a big gulf in earnings between the longest serving and the more recent additions. It is what it is, if we're going to go for the self sustaining route then it has to come out of the budget until they move clubs, end of.

I would guess this is part of the reason KMac and Willo are at an impasse with the club regarding a new contract. I can only imagine (given our circumstances) that they have been offered the same or most likely less in terms of weekly salary. Both players would probably feel their earnings should be in line with the high earners. Given their contribution last term it would be difficult to argue with that.

think they turned them down because they were no way near the clubs valuation of the player.
Lowtons fee may well have been over what we valued him to be.

A lot of things have to be considered in the value of a player apart from the obvious one of is the player any good the club needs to be able to replace the said player with one of a similar standard, are such players around are they available and at a reasonable price would they want to move to your club and would they fit in with the rest of the team etc .............

then there is the Blades way of valuation ..................... they are offering over £500k Kevin ! TAXiiiiiiiiiiiii

500k Kevin.. we get to keep Monty for another year when all of these other clubs wanted him.. rejoice
