How do You Feel Now? What Should the Club Do?

We have 4 games & probably play offs left this season. So we need to 100% back Wilder and the players for the rest of the season & see where we end up.

If we fail to go up my view is that the new US owners will make a managerial change. We have 1 more year of parachute payments left & I am sure they will invest/back another promotion push as they have not bought us to be a bumbling along Championship club. Successful US businessmen want ‘results’ quickly so will likely be ruthless quickly.

1) One of the new owners needs to zoom the squad and management to say that, assuming fine is incoming, this will be the last one the club is paying and it all needs a line drawing through it.

2) Instead of doubling down on a siege mentality, Chris realises that his Big Characters/Proper Players/Culture Carriers have just folded under the pressure of other teams running at them. I get why pretty much all the focus is on Chris right now, but to an extent the players have let him down this past week. Serious 2 way dialogue to work out who can do what to get back on track

3) Tactically plan for a 7 game season. I doubt anyone is fully fit at this point of a season ( every club ) and Chris has been goid at managing the injury situation across the season. As above, work out who has what left and deploy accordingly, building to the final three games.

4) Lighten up a bit. You're all highly paid people doing something everyone who watches you dreams they could too.

Let's be clear, whilst his behavior on Saturday wasn't acceptable, he didnt throw a punch, just got in someone's face. In terms of sacking him for this, he was hardly caught snorting coke off a hookers tits.

Not enough to sack him for I don't think.

I'd let him see out the play offs, and depending on which division we are in next season, make a decision then.

I would hope someone from the board has shown some leadership and has sat down with CW either yesterday or this morning and just had a chat to say we can't be doing that and to settle it down again. It has been an appalling week when we really should have kicked on and be looking at winning the league. I thought the antics at the end of Saturday were pathetic but that it was born out of a frustration more than anything else. Then the coaching staff should be having an honest conversation about things that can be improved and quickly. The main points of this being the subs we make, set pieces ( both attacking and defending) and the speed we play. And then pick our best side for now as it needs to change from what it has been. And lastly the players need a rocket, the mentality, the urgency and desire in the last 3 games has been horrendous and has to change now, this comes from them. The manager is not telling them to play on 5 touch, or not to make a run, or not to attack the ball when the oppo put a cross or throw in, into our box. They need to front that up.
Ultimately however, we still have a wonderful opportunity of promotion and that should be the message. Get the composure back thus making better decisions and we have every chance. If it's not to be for the top 2, and it's unlikely now, then make sure we are favourites for the play offs, as at our best we will be the best side in them.

Get this season done and shake hands and say thanks Chris but we feel the club needs a fresh start.

Then decide what to do, if we want to stick with an English manager then I’d make a move for Cooper, he’s got a team promoted from the Championship before where he’s made smart loan signings something which we will need to do as there will be 4 or 5 clubs with more money to spend on permanent signings than us.

If we decide to go down the young foreign coach route than we need to make the right choice, not always that easy, for every club that pulls a successful foreign manager out of the hat there are more that flop especially at Champ level, plus we have a large percentage of very (I won’t say xenophobic) parochial fans who don’t like the idea of foreign players let alone a foreign manager.. it’s risky.

On the whole I’d try and move hell and high water to get Cooper

Serious question.

What the actual fuck is Chris Wilder meant to have done on Saturday that would warrant a fine/ suspension etc. ?

There is absolutely no evidence that he did anything other than have a brief 5 second conversation with 2 Plymouth players. No verbal abuse, no physical altercation, no meltdown. He did a very reasoned interview on TV minutes after he was supposed to have "lost it".

I've watched every video available and asked the same question on several threads here but nobody can give a straight answer.

On this site our manager has been called:
" a Meadowhall Sunday League gobshite, an Utter embarrassment, Classless, a fucking child, an Utter fucking idiot, a Peroni soaked scruffy looking tramp"

Some of the comments reek of snobbery, others reek of burnt bacon.

i know theres a lot of talk of team selection but we played 19 different players in the last 3 games starting or off the bench & only person all week that looked like scoring was rak-sakhi.

in these final 4 games we've got to rediscover the tempo & the urgency that we know this team is capable of we saw it v leeds & Coventry. because at the moment even having the man city playing football at a walking pace would struggle

also Jack Robinson is at fault. as bad as we were. we win that game if he isnt on the pitch. & stats are the stats. we've conceded 11 more goals in 2 less games than we did when he was on the bench. he is a liability

Wilder will get the chance to finish the season but I'm personally of the mind that the new owners will sack him as soon as the season ends and bring in a new approach. Let all the loans go back to their parent clubs and the new man in charge define his own squad with a bit of financial backing regardless of which division we are in.
I was of the mind all season that we wouldn't finish top 2, but I've had a strange feeling that this might be our year to break our play-off curse.
Either way, he goes when all is settled.

Lets hypothetically say we're in the PL next season. I assume sacking Wilder, sending back loans and appointing a new manager would be quite a nuclear option. I'm here for that however. As it stands I don't think Wilder should lead us in to the PL and personally I don't think the squad as is, is that capable so fuck it, why not go for a new manager and squad, it will be an interesting season that's for sure. Let's be honest it's pretty much accepted now that the PL is 3 up same 3 back down anyway besides the odd anomaly so who gives a fuck.

Personally I think Wilder will be afforded his last crack at the PL if we end up getting there and I'll have zero reason eating humble pie if he produces an amazing season and keeps us up. I don't think I've ever called for anyone out without reason, right now I think alot of people don't have much faith in Chris, getting someone fresh in to me would be a better option. Then again, I know piss all. I was one of McBs critics but was more than happy to give him his praise when he started acting like a footballer. When Wilder gives up his stubbornness, stops playing on his "Sheffield boy" nonsense and produces some convincing results with the squad he has then I'll happily sing his praises too.

Have to agree - the reaction on here and twitter has been overblown. The pushing and shoving match in the tunnel actually looks to have been instigated by Robinson steaming in (suprise suprise) as Wilder is walking into the tunnel.

What makes me laugh is people acting like this is him "losing it" - this has always been part of his character as our manager - difference is everyone loves it when we're doing well. I remember him squaring up to Surman (Bournemouth?) on the touchline in the prem. Everyone enjoyed Hecky shoving the ball into Djed Spence in the playoffs. No cries of "lost his head" - "lost the dressing room" - "embarassing" back then.

Its been a bad week for the club - his actions haven't helped but they certainly haven't warranted anything other than a need for the lads to re-group and stick together. It's clear a proportion of the fanbase has been sat edge of the seat waiting for something like this to pounce on him. Sadly I actually do think he's straying into Warnock territory now of being loved/hated by the fans dependent on which way the wind is blowing.

Chris Wilder has been magnificent this season. Totally rebuilt a squad in one transfer window and accumulated 85 points in 42 games. Enough to get automatic promotion in any other season.
Absolutely incredible! This whilst doubling the pigs and breaking our historic consecutive away wins record!

I'm sure I speak for all Blades when I congratulate him on these astonishing achievements 👏🛐

There's been a lot of negativity about Chris all season, was I happy that he took over after Hecky was relieved of the job ? Yes becausewe knew he'd come in and settle things down before the inevitable, but we were always going to have a difficult season this year with all the ownership takeover issues personally if the takeover had been completed during last summer I don't think Chris would have been in charge this season ( would we be 3rd none of us knows if we did I'd be watching the games on a massive screen in my sea front villa in menorca because the lottery numbers would have popped into my head )
if we all want someone to blame look at PA his greediness held everything up and he's ultimately to blame for the points deduction
Let's get through the play offs and see what happens
Chris won't be here next season no matter what
He's given me some of my happiest memories following United and my respect won't ever dissappear but its time "again "

If our ambitions are to become and established Premier league club then he needs to go, he isn't someone you would want to be the face of a global brand/organisation which comes with being an established Premier league club. He's embarrassed the club on several occasions this season alone.

I'd also have doubts over his ability to establish us in the premier league long-term and I'd wonder how many foreign players/agents would be interested in working with his man management style, which would hugely limit our options for recruiting premier league standard players going forwards.

I'm happy to say it - I want to support MY football club, a club I recognise, a club with an identity, a club who's identity I share. MY football club, not some hollowed out husk global brand and organisation.

I will always remain surprised that is what some fans want. Something very, very, very different to the Club we have grown up with. The only thing remaining being the name on the office door.

The Cardiff game, both tactically and selection wise will be interesting. A guaranteed play off place is a huge cushion but we need a result to take into the Burnley game.

The tactics are questionable, surely no one can defend this way of playing but the bigger question is why so many players are off it at the moment. We’ve handled games with far more injuries before and ground out results throughout the season. From Coventry to the following three games has you wondering what’s behind it all. How many of us expected nine points from those three games.

It's all a load of nothing to see here.

Opposition players celebrating in front of the away end. Yes please.
The manager telling those players to Fuck Off (or similar). Yes please.
An ongoing reaction from those involved. Yes please.

It's football. It's chaotic. It's not an episode of Scooby Doo. I'm not going to look for things that aren't there.
Right, but on shoutbox I heard that he racially abused those players before starting a brawl in the tunnel, so what about now?

I think the atmosphere for the last 2 home games will be flat as a fart, everyone knows the game is up for top 2.

Those years between L1 and 9th in the PL are long gone and what a ride that was!
Let's not forget though that the success really wasn't just predicated on the manager, but having the triple energy of having a Blade as an owner, whatever you thought of Kevin McCabe, and Billy as skipper. It's unlikely that will ever happen again. That was simply incredible and drove that period of success too.

The reason for Chris's leaving the first time are still shrouded and protected, probably by NDA's. What he has said himself, is that he 'repaired his relationship with the owner', whatever that means, but we seem to easily gloss over that Hecky was still our manager and working under what must have been almost intolerable pressures at that very same time. A man who Wilder had worked closely with only a short time before. We cannot, and should not, only talk about the positives without balancing that with the, potentially uncomfortable, other truths.

Pragmatically speaking, the then owner was going through a rocky time with the fan base and needed a lift in that respect, at the same time that Wilder was looking for his next job option and having already done his ground work with the Prince. I'd love to read Hecky's thoughts on it all, a man striving, and who did brilliantly, to get us to the PL and, if rumours are correct, save us from a financial disaster. Some might say that a re-marriage of convenience was very helpful to both parties.

I posted before about Chris being too close to the club and too emotionally wrapped up in it. I want a manager capable of self control and clear thinking, not one who is the subject of avoidable negative media attention that is counter productive to what we are trying to achieve as a club.

What we saw on Saturday was avoidable. It's not his job to control another club's players while recent evidence from our own club's behaviour proves that he can't control ours either. His ramble and comments on another club after the derby game were avoidable too.

When one person becomes the negative story in an organisation, that is a huge problem. Our new owners will be taking a long, hard look at it and Chris is willingly putting himself 'in the shop window' for the wrong reasons.

When he came back, I hoped that he wouldn't tarnish the legacy that he left first time round. The simple fact is that this relationship cannot and will not go on forever. I get it that some want it to, some for personal and social connection reasons rather than professional realism, but this is hard business now. There is and can be little sentiment when we are trying to look forward to the future.

I don't know what the future holds, but he's had everything any Blades fan could want. IF there is a parting of the ways, I want him to do it right, professionally and by his own decision making. Maybe then, he can go out with his head up, 'take it head on' and go with pride through the front door.

For me, he stays to the end of the season and owns whatever happens. The new owners will (must) have had plans in place for going forward, whatever league we are in.

Interesting times ahead.
I'm curious to know how, in your opinion, Chris Wilder managed to win League Two with 99 points at Northampton the year before he came to us, if the only reason for his success in winning League One with 100 points with us, is that he, Billy Sharp and Kevin McCabe were all Blades together? Not only did he not have 3 Northampton fans as manager, captain and owner at Northampton, but for some parts of their title winning season, the players weren't even getting paid.

I would also like to know how, in your opinion, the members of the LMA were fooled into awarding Chris Wilder the LMA Manager of the Year Award in 2019, as one of only 7 non Premier League managers ever to win it, if the only reason for his success that season, was the comforting presence of a Blade captain and part-owner? It seems unlikely that the LMA members (all elite level football managers) would have voted him the best manager of that season, across all divisions, including the Premier League, and ahead of Pep Guardiola, if his managerial abilities were confined to rubbing his Blades captain's and owner's feet, like a rabbit's foot, as a good luck charm.

Could it, in fact, be the case, that Chris Wilder has displayed excellent levels of football knowledge and ability across his career as both manager and player, and that your crass, flip, and disrespectful dismissal of his achievements as 'he only managed it cos he, Billy n McCabe were all Blades, tha knows' is both ill-mannered and wide of the mark?

And no, before anyone asks, I'm not Chris Wilder, Wit, or Mrs Wilder; I'm just a normal, everyday Blade, who is sick and tired of seeing the achievements of Mr Wilder trashed on a forum of people who should appreciate them the most.

That's not what I said. It was a special time and others were involved too. It is possible to see success at the club brought by all involved, not just Chris.
Also, see Alan Knill. A good percentage of the current partnership who gets far too little credit for his work and is a total professional.

Right now, the only one bringing negativity to all this and causing differing opinions is our boss. We can do without it and IF we're going to be successful in the next few weeks, then the fewer distractions the better.

In terms of the OP, I expect the club to start some kind of internal disciplinary proceedings, whatever they have in place. They should be conducted behind closed doors like any other business. Not just about yesterday but about a number of events this season where his professionalism could be questioned. They have a duty of care to their staff as much as anything else. Personally, I think calling for him to be sacked because of it is unreasonable, unless there has been previous internal issues.

If there's any action taken by the FA/FL etc, then I'd expect the club to comment on that publicly.

I don't buy all this - US Businessmen all behave in exactly the same way, and we all know how that is - lazy xenophobic stereotyping bullshit narrative.
And ruthless to drive success! Successful businessmen will not waste time waiting money.

It’s fair to say Wilder could do with a few lessons in how to conduct himself but let’s not get carried away by a load of opposition fans on social media making a mountain out of a molehill.
Football fans, who by and large don’t have the greatest reputation for behaviour, all of a sudden being the arbiters of how a manager should react to abuse is a bit rich if you ask me.

Gotta get behind them last 4 games, hope we can get in to some form for play offs, not over till fat lady sings. Asses once our fates decided, been a good season overall besides recent collapse I’m sure next season we’ll be more balanced despite sales if worst case happens.
