Looking a long way back, in light of what has happened today (not place to discuss that)

a and b to be honest. A bit like how our prem relegation was in part unjust (West Ham not getting the punishment they should have) but part our own fault (couldn't manage a draw v Wigan on last day).

The six points lost in the consecutive games against Oldham and Walsall cost us. We should have been promoted by the end of March with the midfield and strikers we had

losing ched to the squad meant a non performance at mk dons as his mates were in shock
it changed everything
but thats life
shit happens

please remove option c its is utterly offensive

A. I find it hard to believe that with United's track record of selling players we would have held on to the man in question in January had it not been for the pending court case. The club should have prepared adequately for the possibility of his conviction and secured a replacement of good enough quality to get us over the line.

The timing was unfortunate for us, coming so close to the end of the season, but had we taken steps in January to replace him, we would probably have got the required few points and secured promotion.

We did take those steps. We signed Beattie, Hoskins andO'Halloran. We also had Porter and Cresswell.

We were unlucky as Beattie had lost it and got himself stupidly sent off at a key time, Hoskins got injured, and O'Halloran was crap, but we did try to get cover. I don't think criticism of the club for not getting people in is (for once) fair here.

It was more annoying that the trial could not be pushed into the close season. John Terry's was during the same year.

We got shafted, the verdict completely effected the the moral of the team.

True we should have had enough about us to get ourselves over the line but you could see the impact the conviction had on the team.

It can only happen to us anyway.

Whats done is done. Yes United seemed to pissed on again by lady luck, but intimately..its all character building and if we had gone up then we wouldnt be able to enjoy this seasons relentless march to promotion. ;)

We were unbeaten in 9 games approaching the MK Dons game. In those 9 games, Evans scored 12 goals. He also scored in each of the 2 prior to the run, so Evans was in the form of his life scoring 14 in 11.

Sheffield United had taken 23pts from a possible 27pts on offer over the previous 9 games, scoring 24 goals (2.6 goals per game).

We got 2 points from the remaining 9 on offer in the league and averaged 1.3 goals over those games. Into the play offs, we played 3 games and scored 1 goal.

So without Evans, we played 6 games winning 1 and scoring 5.

The premier league relegation was different. We had multiple opportunities to get that 1 extra goal that was required. Don't blame the FA, the Premier League, West Ham or Tevez - blame SUFC...

This however 100% had a bearing on the future of the club and royally fucked us!

If this was the season we lost to Huddersfield Town in the play off final it was none of the above! Shit manager who had no plan B, dickhead of a striker who never thought about his actions right or wrong and the inability to win a fucking penalty shoot out when your 3-1 up!

Well perhaps Wilson has to shoulder some of the blame for bringing in the wrong cover?
Hoskins arrived with a partial hernia that needed operating on during the close season and aggravated it.
O'Halloran was shit. Can't argue with that.
Was Beattie actually Wilson's signing? If not, whose? Because it was a waste of money. He actually got sent off twice. How many minutes did he actually play for us?

I'd suggest that the combined wages of the three might have been put to use on decent cover for Evans, because there was always a possibility he'd lose his case.

It was poor management, either by DW1, the board, or a combination of both.
Throughout the season we had a good first team but no strength in depth whatsoever. Whenever we were without one of our centre halves, or McDonald, we were shite. And we replaced LJF with one totally useless and one poor left back.

There's a lot we could have done better to mitigate Ched getting sent down, we could have been home and hosed before then.

That said, given Evan's subsequent court case, we were unlucky he did get sent down and the pigs did put together an unfeasible run to catch us. And we should have won the shootout.

Heard Saunders on the radio today saying being a successful manager is 60% luck and considering he's been both a successful manager and a shit one he may have a point.

Fucked it up ..... again .

Line drawn under it and moved on .

The only time any of us should spend time looking back is when we've succeeded . Unless you are Pinchy of course in which case look back , get cock out , stroke one off and tell everyone who is below the age of 60 that they know fuck all :D

This.

Tomorrow's "Hot Topic"...

Since the Welshman's debut trial and a brief spell in HMP Slade,
has the team's entrance music and goal celebration tune been changed?

I'm looking forward immensely to the cause and affect Jean Hatchet's tweets have changed your view on women since 2012, thread.

Interesting thoughts, and I think that, generally, it has definitely brought out your feminine side.

Have to disagree. It would have made no difference who we had got in, the squad were in shock, they'd been kicked in th balls. It wasn't a lack of quality in the rest of the team, it was the sheer gut wrenching shock of seeing our talisman get sent down for rape.

The instant that laughable verdict was made, it would make no difference who we had to replace him. It killed us and gave the pigs across the city even more belief that it was to be their year.

OK that's a fair point, and I thought that just after I made my post. The effect on any workforce of seeing one of your mates get sent down for rape must be severe, and maybe blaming the rest of the squad is an overreaction.
