Dad wasn't really in to football but remember getting taken to GT Sports at Crystal peaks to pick out my first kit ... ended up with the half purple half yellow one circa Blake Fjortoft, Vonk etc bloody loved that kit .... few years back our lass bought it me as a surprise birthday present .... needless to say shes now my wife (helps her whole family are mad blades)

Never had a choice in it really, sometimes I wish I did and ended up a Man U fan so I could say I’d seen us win champions leagues/FA cups/world club cups/league cups and premier league titles but the truth is I’d never swap how much this club means to me, I’ve a mate at work and he’s into motorbikes and outdoor activities like rock climbing whereas the rest of my workmates are into football blades and pigs, he’s been trying bless him to get into football and started off going to pig games with his 7/8 year old son, luckily for the young lad my workmate was given free tickets for the Lane by his junior side and now his son wants to come to the Lane every week, the success of this current side has implications for the future but these young uns have got to take the rough times too like freezing at the back of the kop contemplating bad life choices while losing to Shrewsbury.

Dad is a blade, always loved going to matches with him and his mates as a kid (plus had no choice :)). Add in Keith Edwards and Brian Deane....... utb

i've told this one before but it's an interesting yarn so ..
had to go to the dentist .. needed a bribe so my mum took me to Suggs for a badge.. cool. i wanted Man United as i'd only heard of George Best ( i was only five)but they didn't have any (sold out).. and the bloke said ' what do you support them for? you should support your local team' .. i didn't know there was a local team.. 'we have two local teams.. United and Wednesday'.. i said to the guy 'what they have a team called Wednesday? that is bloody stupid i'm not supporting them' so i went for united.
It wasn't until i got home that my grandfather found out about it.. ' there'd have been bloody hell if he'd picked fucking wednesday' (it was one of the few times i heard him swear which makes it all the more memorable)..
all our family are United except for black sheep cousin brought up in Parson X.. when my uncle passed i got a call from him. will you get a united shirt for my dad.. he wanted to be buried in one.. 'he' literally wouldn't touch it.

My Dads a Blade who grew up in the Edwards & Morris era, that said by the time I was born he'd stopped going. An uncle asked if he could take me to Hillsborough but he was having none of that and took me a couple of times in the 01/02. The game that really hooked me in was Leeds in the 3rd round of the league cup, Jagielka's screamer and Nuddy's winner! I think that game revived his love for the Club and we've been season ticket holders ever since.

My dad became a Blade (although he didnt go to a match until the later years of WW2) before the war because his classmate was Fred Jessop's son. Fred Jessop signed for us from Derby in 1937 and his family moved to live in Dronfield. In the 1969/70 season I had a choice to become a Blade or a Wendy. All my mum's brothers (she had six although one died in 1962) were Wendy fans, only my dad and his youngest brother were Blades. I decided to follow my dad!

My first game was with my dad and one of my older brothers. His first game as well. But it did nothing for him. I was hooked. Sat in old john street stand near bramall lane end. The smell of the grass and pipe smoke and bovril. Silent might be able to confirm date. But was i think season before 70/71 promotion season. We beat sunderland 1-0. Think was ted helmsley not sure but seem to remember him. The rest is history and proud and thankful to my dad for introducing me to the best club in the world in my opinion.
20th February 1971. Jim Montgomery gave one of the finest goalkeeping displays I have seen at the Lane. He made a string of fine saves except the header in below photo

Mine's boring. Dad's a Blade. Uncle was Porky in his youth but converted before my time.
