How big can we make Bramall lane?

There's a problem with knocking down houses; people live in them and they might not wish to move. There's bags of space behind the Shoreham end though. An enormous stand could be built there which would be big enough for everyone, I'd have thought.

One thing for sure though. SUFC should never do a Bolton, Coventry or Brighton and move out of town. It's the city centre location and the shops and caffs on London Road that make the Lane special. Apart from Newcastle I can't think of another football ground so beautifully situated.
apart from chinatown, the cafes and shops are shit on london rd. unless your asian or a turk. all in all its a bit shit but i wouldnt ever want us anywhere else.too many memories

was watching football on spanish tv yesterday and Atletico Madrid are starting to builkd a new 70000 seat staium , to go with their status as cl finalists and la liga champions

some fans are a bit miffed as its on the outskirts, to save money and theres not the transport and its working class fans will go from living near the stadium to being commuters #
I would actually hate us to have a ground like that!

To make it loud, I suggest everyone has the afternoon off work and get's oiled. That's my plan.
This is actually a really good point. As well as the pitch and view, acoustics should be next.
Crowd close to the pitch and steep stands to keep the noise in design the roof to keep as much in as possible. When the lane is redeveloped that's what should be done.

We will definitely need to up size next time we reach the premiership as 32,000 was selling out most times the last time we were there. Love how the lane is close to the city centre if the supertram ran closer to the ground and public transport was better it would be perfect.
The only real downside is lack of parking close to the ground due to residents only schemes, how many students (the only residents nearby) actually run cars, plenty of parking spots nearby if you could use them. Sheffield council seem to fuck it up in every which way they can, resident parking schemes, road closures on match days public transport diverted away from the ground fuck me I could never imagine they would close Penistone road on a match day.

Imagine (just for a second) the misery of supporting Wednesday and having to traipse to the desert that is Penistone Road. You can buy some new tyres up there but where are the pubs, caffs etc? And where are the people? Apart from the little piggies on their way to the game there's no bugger there.

Giz Beautiful Downtown Bramall Lane any day.

Bloody hell, assuming you meant to write 'you're', do you honestly think only Asians or Turks enjoy their own cuisine?

In the nicest possible way that is just junk of the highest order, possibly like your diet?

I don't know a stadium in the country, and I've been to most of them that has a better array of cafés, restaurants and pubs on its doorstep.

The rejuvenation of London Road and the area between Bramall Lane and the Station has made for the best possible "matchday experience" in England.

Also, if we are just talking cities, then St Asaph FC play pretty close to their city centre...

Ched will be able to confirm how close. :)

Yes, but the traipse from Nothingham Station to Meadow Lane takes in nothing more inspiring than a themed bar.

Its called Hooters® but don't get excited, its not topless, its just thoughtless, the pubs 'this' side of Trent Bridge now nail bars for the kept women of West Bridgford.

Yes!

I know these local council schemes are often vacuous but the 'Creative Industries Quarter' of Sheffield, has a decent concentration of cafés of different types, various bars, a few art galleries, a river, Spearmint Rhino and a cinema.

All en route from Station to football ground.

I reckon this DOES add up to more than one thrill per minute walked,

still if you need more stimulation...........?

Not even a split second mate, leave the 2 teams in Barnsley in the shithole .

You could significantly expand the capacity at BDTBL by one simple measure (well, I say simple - it'd mean us moving out for a few years!):

Rotate the pitch through 90° and move it into the centre of the plot. It means you drastically cut down on the size of the car-park - or have to split it into a couple of smaller areas, or provide some under-stand parking - but that'd give us loads of room to expand.

Yep Carthesis, been discussed on and off since the 1960s.

The exact location of the hotel doesn't help though and now there are flats on Arnold Lavers old depot, any extension beyond Cherry Street is out of the window too.

Oddly I was speaking to a Spurs fan t'other night (I had to go in with them) and we discussed their new ground proposal (imagine the Emirates stadium but with navy blue seats). I hadn't realised but he said it was going to be on the same site but turned round 90º like you mention for Bramall Lane.

I asked him where they would play in the meantime and he said Milton Keynes!

With Bramall Lane not having acres of space to build on, what could we build it to if money were no object and us being a regular prem team fighting for Europe.

Could we make it any bigger than this?

If you put a finger tip from each hand on the picture and move them apart it goes much larger, about 2.5 times zoom?

Does that help?

Did I hear on the radio that a new China town was going to be built across to Bramall Lane? The Chinese developer has been after building it for ten years and the council have now said yes.

I think when we get back up increasing the capacity in the home areas by about 5000 would be about right. Would let away teams bring more than the two and half k last time we were there and we'd probably fill the rest most weeks.
If we ever seriously did well in the top league though, even 37k wouldn't be enough.

We don't want to end up like the wendies mind, playing in a stadium far too big for them. Can't imagine what the atmosphere is like at their games, 20 odd thousand empty seats every game!

Although I do think United have put tickets on sale far too cheap it still goes to show we can fill the Lane easily if there is important games and good opposition. Very hard to put a price on tickets for a second leg tie. As we are still very much in it we could have still sold out had we charged more, had we been hammered in the first leg we wouldn't have been able to give them away.

SUFC have got another year to run on their 2013 time limit extension to their 2009 application to develop the Kop. They also have an application pending at the moment to extend the time limit for their 2009 outline permission to develop the South Stand, so they must be serious about developing the Lane as and when.

Also, don't forget the two recent permissions for the residential schemes at Cherry Street and John Street corners.

With a bit of luck they have forgotten about the residential schemes at Cherry Street and John Street corners, they would seriously hinder any expansion of the ground.
