How are we managing to keep clean sheets without Doyle starting?

It was noticeable we didn't give away as many Free Kicks and Corners, which has been the main reason we concede goals, plus we closed down the man with the ball...starting from the front,we working hard from to nick the ball back.I also think the return of Basham has made a difference at the back.
Good to see all the Back Line, all capable of bringing the ball out aswell, giving us all kinds of options through the midfield, and we moved the ball quicker.

Some great points there.
People constantly point to needing a striker but Howard vastly improved the back 4 when he replaced long, filled them with confidence.
Having flying wing-backs will make a difference when brayford gets back out there. Having two out n out wingers again has got us looking like last seasons team, and just having basham in form has helped immensely. Done has been a breath of fresh air but even without him the wingers and other small changes have made a big improvement.

The question for me is, do we have anyone to put his foot in when required. Wallace is probably the only man who can although I was more impressed with coutts.

When you play 451 you need to have midfielders with more than 1 string to their bow, but at Barnsley we will need Doyle

Agree about Howard, made a difference straight away along with Bash vVale..Turner had a few dodgy moments last night though..Freeman has done well at Right Back..great ball for Murphy's goal aswell.

If Barnsley are one the form teams then we can't really afford to lose.

I would do a "Bristol" on them.

Back 4, with Coutts, Basham and Doyle in front and let just the front 3 run at them - possibly Murph, Holt and Done - it worked like a treat down there.

We need to keep Barnsley out of the playoffs - the WORST case scenario is to lose to the dingles at Wembley - we would never, ever hear the end if it.

I'd be very surprised if Doyle didn't start against donny and Barnsley.
Are we still keeping faith in Wallace?

I have been suggesting him every transfer window for the last few years, we just need to send him to Eileen Drury for a one over!

We don't need to rush him
Back this time so let's hope clough sticks to the plan. He's worth it

If we beat Crewe we will fill up the away end and not lose to barnsley. Long way back for them after that

Famous last words!

Indeed and Barnsley are away to brizzle - 9 points in front of them after saturday and don't lose the week after and that should be too much for them.

Just need Fleetwood to come through and get 6th place - that would be nice us v f'wood at Wembley - even I might fancy our chances!

If Clough is right and Wallace is suffering little "back to fitness niggles" rather than full relapses then I'd wait n wait for him!
Bash and Wallace pulling the strings in the playoffs?? WOW!

One decent win without MD starting and the lynch mob are out in force. Lol!
That's 2 wins without Doyle starting and 2 clean sheets to boot. When was the last time we kept 2 clean sheets on the bounce?

I wouldn't say the lynch mob are out, i'd say people are suggesting why we don't need him in the type of games we played last night which i think is glaringly obvious. Bring him on if we're 1, 2, or 3 nil up to keep things tight but other than that we don't need him in them sort of games and i've been saying that all season. Don't you think we looked better going forward last night without Doyle in midfield because i certainly did? This has nothing to do with Doyles' attributes either, i'm simply saying we don't need his attributes in the so called lesser games.

Barnsley aren't all that ,pressure will be on them and we will piss it.

Not against the likes of Scunny no.....but against good sides, yes we really do.

NO!!!!!!!

Three of the biggest games in the last 12 months (FA Cup semi v Hull, 2nd leg against Spurs and the PNE Manure FA Cup tie) he was a liability, truly awful and against PNE particularly horrendous – despite the pass to an unmarked Murphy for the goal!
Best result last year? – Rotherham win – no Doyle.
Best result this year? - 4-0 – no Doyle.
The bloke is shite – and what is totally unacceptable to me for a United player - he is scum.

What is totally unacceptable to me is how you can call one of our players scum?

Has Doyle done something to harm you? Has he stolen your Timex? Did he once give your wife a good seeing to that to this day she still recalls longingly?

We all take an irrational like/dislike to a player, but to call a player, any player, scum, especially when he's a Blade, well what sort of mentality is it that thinks it's appropriate to use that term? I'd suggest you apologise, but I doubt it would even cross your mind.

Doyle never was scum. At times he's been moderate to poor, even awful, but then there have been games, especially after his sending off against Fulham, when he's not only played well, he's shown he's deserved to be part of this team. Like many on here I doubt we'll see too much of Doyle again in a red and white shirt, but none of this warrants calling him scum. That word is deserved for someone who has robbed, killed, maimed, or generally acted despicably, so perhaps you can tell me which of those categories does Doyle fit into?

I don't believe he covers more ground then scougall, holt and reed.
Suppose he might be the best talker(none of our team seem to be shouters or vocal leaders).
People say his positioning is good, but you're never going to be out of position when you don't move forward the whole game.
I personally think Basham is a much better tackler, has much more presence and has far more quality on the ball.

Basham has more mobility and has a presence. Not that good positionally, poor touch and can't pass or create. Can tackle and is OK on the ball once it's under full control but not in the final third where he's out of his depth. No leader.

Don't know about his engine (no doubt it's flash) but he's the only player in professional football that Huddleston can ghost past to score with the use of his 'pace' :D

Shame there were no central defenders anywhere to help him out.

he is scum.

Out of order there Miserable, I'm with itsinyerblood on this one.
