Carlisle have signed Sheffield United defender Evan Horwood on a free.
The 21-year-old left-back, who has just finished a loan stint at Scottish Premier League Gretna, has agreed a deal lasting two and a half years.
He joined the Blades as a trainee in 2004 but managed only one appearance for them in the League Cup in 2005.
Hartlepool-born Horwood had loan spells at Stockport, Scunthorpe, York, Chester and Darlington before his five months at Gretna, where he played 17 matches.
