Many years ago (about 45) I recall reading the Dandy and it mentioned that back in 1900 and frozen, maybe the 1930's, Utd were so poor at home and so much better away that the decision was taken to "fool" the players by taking them on a charabanc ride around Derbyshire before a home game in the hope that it would improve their performances as they might think they were at an away game.

Perhaps Mr Speed might try the same trick again possibly combined with switching the dressing rooms around too to see if it has any effect.

I was relieved at Saturday's result rather than enjoyed it as I thought the Palace bogey might strike again but for once one of our ex players (trade description infringement-oops) helped us for a change when it mattered.

They tried this twice I believe. 1n 1939 ish and again in the early 1950s. The Home / Away games consisted of a coach trip to the Grouse and then back to the Lane. It did show positive results

It was indeed first done in the 1938-9 promition year in an attempt to buck up home form as United fought Wednesday for the second promotion spot.

I think the trips actually included overnight stays as well. It worked in the end as we beat Spurs 6-1 in the last home match to clinch 2nd spot.

Just get us playing in our 8th away kit, we have that many kits that it'd confuse anyone!
