Holt signing ?

Striker?

Think he's got a 1 in 3 strike record for us which admittedly is pretty good for our strike force!

Goals aside, what else has Holt offered during his time with us? He plays nice sideways passes but other than that? Can't tackle, not fast, has no physical presence..... Not the kind of player we need.

Nothing against the lad, but he's not what is needed. We need to rip up this season's list of experiments and start again.

That would be a poor start to the summer signings in my opinion. With Reed, Scougall + youngsters like Dimaio and Brooks we can't go for more very small midfielders. Holt hasn't been terrible and has scored some goals for us, but overall doesn't add enough.
Disagree, he's been very good and has played well off Davis

It's "let's fill a space day" in a local rag

Key phrase: "barring a change of heart by Nigel Clough"

Doesn't it depend on the price and conditions. If we're paying token compensation and he's on minimum wage it's a bargain. If otoh he's a new record signing then that's not so good.

I'd've preferred news on a good CH to show intent and direction of travel, but defer judgment for now.

His goals have been useful, the rest of it I'm less sure about. But this is what we'll get. Upsides and downsides. May be a useful squad player.

Still want progress on CHs...

Read that a little like 'what have the Romans ever done for us'

Lol

Not good enough. Scored a few goals but totally anonymous otherwise.

I really hope we are going to go for a few proven quality signings this time rather than the previous approach of signing lots of very average players (Brayford and Done apart).

Just be signing an average/poor L1 player.

Surely the penny will drop with Clough one day
I,d rather go with the kids than some of the crap Cloughs brought in.
So come on Nige show us you are leaning something and bring in another Brayford/Done types

And Che

He may play Che more next season. He needs a good preseason under his belt and then we should hopefully see the best from him next season.

Holt's done OK in his loan spell but I am not convinced he has done enough to warrant a contract if we have ambitions to gain promotion next season.
If, however, we are looking to consolidate then there's a case to be made, so if Holt gets a contract that tells me a lot about 1) whether NC is going to be at the helm next season and 2) if the policy of quality over quantity is shifting to the former or not.

Not done anyway near enough for me to warrent a contract. hope this is just paper talk.

I think most people on the forum, by now, know my thoughts on players under six feet tall in League 1. We have too many of them. If the choice was Scougall or Holt, then Holt gets my vote, because he can score, but really, we know we need athletic, strong, fast six-footers in the middle of the park.

We do need some more beef in the team, that goes without saying but depending how much we get him for could be the difference between a good or a bad addition as someone else as already elluded to. The lad has scored 5 in 11 starts with 5 sub appearances chucked in, what more do we want from a player in his position? He gets into good positions that doesn't get spotted, although he was shite in the first leg of the playoffs.

If we go to a 4 man midfield then he wouldn't necessarily be needed but if we do sign him then that is further evidence that 1)NC is staying on as manager and 2)we are staying with the 5 man midfield.

If we stay with a 5 man midfield we are doomed.

Evidence if needed, that on monday night when Done was pushed up alongside Davies, Swindon had major problems containing us.

Further evidence, MK Dons who have stuck with Robinson, (take note fans). In the second half of this season they have ditched the negativity of attempting to win 1-0 and have smashed teams out of sight by yes I know.....attacking. (take note Nigel)

After being shell shocked in the first 17 minutes, we took the game to Swindon (no choice) and look how many we scored, when Matt Done scored we had about five players in the box, actually looking for the ball and wanting to score.

Not a signing we need. Yes he has got a few goals but most of the time you just don't notice he's playing. The type of player who scores your goal in a 2-1 defeat.

This isn't just directed at you mate because there are quite a few saying it but if he is getting goals and not getting noticed doesn't that mean he's not doing much wrong?

I get where your coming from. The trouble is he doesn't do much wrong because he doesn't appear to do anything other than pop up with the odd goal. The game just appears to go on around him. I would rather try and make up the goals elsewhere and get in players who contribute more overall. We are not good enough to be able to carry players.

I don't think we would be carrying him though, his goals alone are what's needed to get us up along with many others, it's down to the management to build a team of different kinds of players otherwise we will just be predictable like this season, atleast we can predict goals from Holt and just imagine if we'd have had him from the start, he'd be on 15 to 20 maybe with a good run in the side. Don't forget he's still learning, he's only 22 and i think with some more good additions Holt could become a good signing, obviously depending on how much of course. Also Clough still has to be able to adapt to different game situations.

Too much of a muchness for me with the players we have got . The aim for a successful league 1 campaign, next season , is to recruit players who are much more than a muchness , and stand out from the crowd.

Effort this summer on goalie , two commanding Centre Backs , and a good strong creative midfielder . Not asking for much , but get them , and we will be cooking on gas. Make or break season , but Clough also needs to make it exciting .
