Yes I know, it's only 2 games in - but I think this might the highest we've ever been in my living memory so I'm posting it on here just for the record.

I started attending in 1977 and got serious in 1979. did Basset's team get above 7th ? Warnock's team surely didn't.

I guess if you suppoted the blades in the early 70's this is just back to the norm but for the rest of us, this is as high as we've ever been

I seem to remember we briefly got to 7th in the spring of 1992 but ended up with a final position of 9th after losing the last two games to Leeds (h) and Palace (a).

Newly promoted season 1971-72. Top of the league after the unbeaten first ten games. We won 8 and drew two, before losing 2-0 at Man utd. With Best scoring one of the goals that kept getting shown. We faded from there and finished 10th.

I'm guessing that the OP is referring to a position after a completed ganeweek, ie every team has played. That would give a more balanced view than if we play the early game, or on a goal by goal basis.

Not sure when you are 'officially allowed' to start actually counting the league table.. 5 games in? 10? I'm quite happy enjoying it now tbh..

Position means nowt at this stage it's end of season that counts, for me 6th in 74/74 just 4 points behind Champions Derby, mind you six years later we were in 4th division. One thing about being a Blade is never set your sights too high and accept what comes.

Tom in days of old the tables came out when 3 games had been played, now it's silly and Sky saying so & so in European place.
