A couple of posters on BM saying he was a guest on 5 Live Sports Extra today and it was said he's signed on at BL for another season!!!

This raises a few points/questions

Is this signing as a replacement for Harry's departure?

How come this has been agreed without a new manager in place?

Is the new manager already in place (Morgs?)

What I can't understand is, despite all the comments of what type of signing we are likely to be making in the future, such as young, athletic types etc (was it Winter or McCabe that made reference to this?) this seems to contradict all the criteria. At 35 it doesn't make sense surely?

Lets be right here, it's not as if DH was a revelation last season. He was left wanting on numerous occasions imo

Think I've answered them accurately for you. :)

He looked rubbish to me last season. Next season he will probably be worse. Aren't you disappointed if we are preempting decisions for the new manager, either way?

We don't know when he was offered the contract. He's a good player to have in the squad as backup for the first 11. His experience counts and he can play in a couple of positions.

I'd sign Robson too. For the same reasons

I'd sign Robson - but if Wilson thought Higginbottom did enough to earn an extension, or that he met our future profile, then I'm more glad we got rid.

although he was shit last season ,playing over 300 games in the premiership means you arent shit. Whos signed him ?

No, it doesn't. It means he wasn't shit when he was younger - but his legs have gone and he's not good enough anymore. So much for focusing on young, athletic players. I hope this isn't a sign we are giving the job to Morgan and sticking with the same players that let us down last season and who clearly aren't good enough.

Thanks for that Matt :)

And although you may have answered them honestly and indeed they may well be accurate, it may have been better if at the end of each of your answers you added "in my opinion"

Unless you sit on the board of course?

I believe there was an option in his contract to extend it. It will either be an option by the club or player, not sure on that one. It could also be an extra year based on a set number of appearances he may have made….who knows!

Wasn't that option linked to promotion?

Makes no sense to me.

Yep, agree with that. Looked fine against L2 Oxford, looked awful the other 2/3 times I saw him. Rather concerned if we extend his contract, or indeed Robson's - both are precisely the type of people in the squad we need to cut loose. I'm not against mid-to-late-30s players being in the squad, or the first XI, if they're any good. Both have demonstrated they are not players you want in a team challenging for the top 2 though.

The only reasonable explanation I can see is that DH is already very rich and has accepted another season for peanuts, realising that he won't get an offer from a Championship club, and won't be motivated to play for the likes of Bury. As centre half back up he may be ok.

The thought of Robson signing on as well is terrifying though. I wouldn't have him next season even for free.

As I've said on another thread, I'd have Robson over 10 Higginbotton's. That's football.
