Higdon back?

What has proved this and where? I have seen nothing from Higdon proving him anything other than a useless lump that the ball bounces off at random angles. I'd have Daruis a million times over before Higdon. Even now.

His goal scoring record? Look them both up.
I would also much prefer a Darius or Hulse type player though.

I agree that Adkins probably demands more in terms of defensive work than Higdon would be able to offer. From an attacking perspective I think we are yet to see Done and Sharp link up well, and Sammon also seems off form. Maybe Adkins could try Higdon from the bench? The style we play currently would possibly suit him better than what Adkins originally planned.

Hard to know exactly what they think of him based on the link upthread.

Here at BDTBL, rightly or wrongly, I think he's near the back of the queue, just in front of the u21s.

In someone elses squad. This is the same dick who launched himself from half a pitch away giving a referee no option but to send him off at Chesterfield. I saw him play well for 60 minutes against Bristol City, and bag a couple against MK Dons but that apart have been totally unimpressed with his attitude and will to succeed. Oh and his ability, it doesn't appear to be there. I want him to be the best thing in the world but he won't be.

And what do you see in Sammon? Where does he launch himself at any stage? That is my only point and it is in response to the clever dicks who are so quick to have a go at Higdon. Everything is relative and at this level Higdon can do a job ----in the right team.

Hey Bladesway it's your man Clough who signed this striker when we had so many other options at the time e.g. Prem/ Championship loanees, young pacey Li/L2 strikers. I happen to see a player in there without ever agreeing that your man Clough should have signed him at such a crucial time, but he is what he is and we have what we have. At least he can score goals.

5 goals in 10 games looks a good ratio, but when you break it down he scored 4 goals in 2 of the games and hasn't scored in over a month.

From what I've seen of both players, give me Sammon over Higdon any day.

When he does this he can link play as well.

I know that Hunk, but what I will never understand is why Clough had this thing for chasing strikers who just do not score goals.

His main targets were O'Grady who scores once every flood and Sammon who scores even less.

O.K. it's not all about the front man scoring goals, it's about what the team scores.

He might think that and you might think that but not many do.

He has no idea how to make runs to create space for himself or others, he very rarely links up with people and has no idea of playing as an integral part of a team.

We'd need a suitable replacement, and for that reason he'll probably stay, but I really don't get what the fuss is about. He's an average Division 3 footballer. He will chase lost causes and all that, which is valuable, but he doesn't link up with team mates.

Done pedigree is Rochdale, Barnsley , Rochdale ,Blades . The guy is too inconsistent and would Adkins had signed Billy Sharp ,if Done was any good. Don't think so.
If we can get our money back or more , that would be good business. The downside he could Finnish up at Wigan or Burton , and run around like a world beater , do us damage , before returning to Mr inconsistent average.
Catch 22 for Adkins and the board , but IMO I would sell if we could recuperate the fee, to get this illusive midfielder or winger.

Higdon is one of Adkins' successes purely in terms of getting him on a football pitch, like Coutts.

Agreed it's not reasonable to judge him yet.

Watched the Scunthorpe game and Sammon played much better than I first thought.

I think second time round you know the result so you're less concerned when a player doesn't win the ball.

He won his fair share, played couple of decent passes, and generally did his job.

Very interesting contrast with Done who seemed on a par but runs around more and so gets zero grief.

I'd prefer that we prove we have the first clue what a decent player looks like ( by signing some first).

Given our piss poor ability to sign quality players, and the piss poor existing squad, I wouldn't be letting any player with an edge go.

Done may have weaknesses, but he does have some strengths. I could name 20 of our players who do not excel in one single aspect of the game, and that's by third division standards.

That's what I thought at the time: didn't see him doing anything right, and did see him doing plenty wrong.

Second run through he won about half his battles, which I suppose is literally par for the course, and put in a couple of decent forward passes. He wasn't world class, but he was at least as effective as Done. Er, maybe.

(Watching the games again I almost always see it differently. I think that's partly because you already know the result so you know any failure to win/loss of possession won't lead to a goal, whereas when you're at the game being muscled out of it on the edge of their box is potentially life or death...)

Playing well he's definitely better than Higdon in Adkins' set ups imo, for reasons already stated.

(And I can't immediately recall any opposition player who I think would be noticeably better.)

Answering my own question here but they've just shown me a bullet on Sky's news saying Oldham have sent him back, it's also on their website.

Speaking to a couple of Oldham fans I know, he was as atrocious for them as he was for us.

Now, where's that thread claiming he was the messiah for scoring 2 goals at the start of his loan spell

but Adams has been moved around the field, he hasn't always played upfront. So you can't simply compare the two.
Sharp is really the only player you can compare him with as even Sammon as been thrown on the wing a few times, the same with Done.

We have to compare him with Sammon.
He might not run around as much but I'd say he's just as good at holding the ball up, and goal scoring-wise he's better.
I'm not his biggest fan but as a target man he's at least as good as what we've got.

And THAT; my dear chap, is part of our huge problem with this crappy squad !!
