With a lovely little social club and dripping cakes.

Really, really sad to see what is becoming of our once reasonably meaningful football club.

I know the management mean well but it just strikes me as very sad that our beloved club is visiting these places on a regular basis and thinks that a social club etc is what people are bothered about.

Well JG will visit these places on a regular basis... seeing as he's a fan who takes his lad to away matches but I think he'd see it as more having a pint than a fact-finding mission though.

And don't slag Bury. They've got an excellent set-up. And nice burgers.

Is the bread stale?

May I stress that if JG sets up a well run social club where dads and lads can go for a game of pool and a pint before a game I will be more than happy.

I am of course referring to SUFC playing at these grounds where quite rightly the social club etc is a thriving centre-piece of a small town lower league club.

Not sure about the midweek stuff but if that what people want then so be it.

Micalijo Ok I'll bite....

Should we aspiring to be a club that embraces its fans and recognises the importance of its fans (I think you have banged the drum for long enough that the club has "lost touch" with its fans)?

Or become a corporate giant like Chelsea, Man U et al where the club just take your money?

On one hand you complain about the Global/ corporate group that SUFC is part of saying things like the club are detached from its fans, yet on the other you mock any attempts to improve this by firing up your own thread to show how great you are... instead of contributing to the thread that is already set up to discuss topics from last night.

Its all about the contradiction

So you are pissed off that SUFC are playing in the 3rd tier at places like Bury. You may be amazed to learn this, but no-one else particularly likes that either. What do you suggest we do? Refuse to turn up at fixtures as we are far above the likes of Bury?

I absolutely can't get along with supporters banging this "likes of them" drum. Another reason why I'm eternally thankful that I was brought up a Blade rather than having delusions of massiveness.

I also can't get why it pains people so much that their club is playing against clubs that aren't as "big" or as "good" or as "sophisticated". It's not as if it's us on the pitch. I have singularly no control over the league we play in or where we are in that league.

I pay my money (or not) - but I have little or no control as to whether this is turned into profit / success / debt or misery.

I love United, I love it when we do well and I get pissed off when we do poorly. I'm frustrated as hell that we're playing in the third tier and apparently don't have a pot to piss in. However, we still have to play whoever turns up to play us and they are the same as us.

To put it in another perspective, if I heard a Man Utd, Liverpool or (god forbid) a Leeds fan refer to playing the "likes of Sheffield United" I'd go postal.

Poor from you that. Expect better. As stated, I'm all for one of these community clubs or whatever, they seem to be all the rage in the pub league we are in so yes we may as well join the club.

I honestly don't see why, out of all the stuff mentioned, you've taken such umbrage at this.

The idea would be that it would be self-financing and turn that into profit for the benefit of the social club area and the football club. The room is in a state fit to use without too much doing to it. Greene King have been approached to put a bar in there. The feedback seemed positive - a minuscule outlay filling a gap in the market and utilising a currently underused space in the ground and making some money out of it.

It's not like this is the only thing Garrett is working on. Nor is it the main focus of the football club, to the extent that all energies are on this idea instead of signing players.

Are you saying that revenue raising schemes shouldn't be discussed? Are you honestly complaining that they're trying to make some money? :)

As long as they don't run it along the same lines at the half-time catering and run out of beer by 2pm :)

Bury's social club is great. My lads first away game was there last year. Went in the club and it was a nice safe atmosphere and the pie and peas were lovely.
Nothing wrong how they are run

Dicalijo wouldn't be happy if we were winning the champions league every year...

If we're "reconnecting with our community" etc etc, would it not be a better idea if we were approaching local brewers/food purveyors to demonstrate we're serious about it?

Give us something different, and we might have a reason to embrace it. An extension of the pap currently on offer is unlikely to entice people out of their normal match-going routines.

You despair at time, obviously its the lack prawn sandwiches and sushi in executive lounges thats holding us back now
Some people must sit at home thinking up new ways to be odds with our club
Be too many pictures of our players in the programmes next

Weve always been a bit like Bury, a football league club that last won something pre war
to start dissing Bury sounds like your half way to claiming we are "massive" soon

In fact when we were at our zenith around 1900 when we won the league and 2 fa cups , bury did exactly the same won its only ever title and the fa cup twice , so they deserve a bit more respect

This club of ours has shot itself in the foot that many times it's not surprising that numbers attending a fans forum are as low as last night.................. with 1000's of Blades so pissed off they don't attend games anymore.

John is a great guy ....but HEY he would need to be fooking Superman man to turn things round.
Lets hope he is because we've gone backward light years !

we may have slipped on the park in recent times , but this club is still worth "supporting"
so we arent in the prem just now, lets pull together to get back there instead of blaming all and sundry
the negativity of some beggars belief, do they think wanting to destroy every attempt made to move forward will help
cant do right for someone thinking its wrong

not many blades fans would get jobs at Samaritans

anyone down on their luck , " hello , things arent good for me right now"
"have you considered suicide"

There are some on here who are just genuinely negative about the Blades and have a genuine feeling of dissatisfaction towards them which is fine and you can tell who those people are. This thread on the other hand is another case of throwing a cat among pigeons and then scurrying off to let them get on with it.....hoping for some reactive comments or even better....for some in-fighting to start. Same thing happens every time and almost everyone bites. Quite sad really but whatever floats your boat.

Bury have never won the league - they did though win the cup in 1900 and 1903 and still hold the record for the record cup final victory - 6-0 v Derby in 1903

yes sorry was an error on wikky its says the won the first div title when in fact it was the second division title
but they were a force around that time

You need to stop taking things I say so seriously, just a bit of fun - I said above I would be more than happy to see a decent place where families can go for a drink and a pie etc - fair play to JG if he gets it sorted. As Raul says though, it'll take alot to change people's routines as we are in a relatively big city with options not a town like Bury which yes has some decent boozers I am sure but as a club is for me totally different in terms of fanbase and potential and a nice little social club is ideal for their needs.

Anyone who thinks I am slagging JG off is so completely wide of the mark as to be farcical.

I just thought it amusing that we are in even the slightest way looking to emulate Bury - but it must be just me.

I also enjoy L1 in most respects so this 'massive' stuff is rubbish as well.
