Hello boys,

Who out there knows how many times we have played on a Good Friday, if ever? Not able to recall a 3pm home kick off in my lifetime.

Oh, and if anyone has a colour picture of Simon Stainrod scoring in our 3-2 home win versus West Ham United on 10 April 76 (1975-76), I'd be grateful for an upload.

Thanks.

We all but won promotion to the Prem in 2006 at Cardiff on a good Friday, Reading beating Leeds on Easter Saturday to put us over the line.

The Leeds match was the day after on Saturday, 15 April.

Reading scored a late equaliser and it finished 1-1.

I don't know the answer to that one but do know that I'll not be watching the next one, season ticket or no season ticket.

Gil Reece header. Wow, a left winger who got into the box and competed for a header on goal. How old-fashioned that has become.:(
Dont think Reece played on the left wing near the touchline. He was right footed and I cant remember him assisting a goal with a cross from the wing. Always thought he usually played inside left rather than outside left

Where's now we've got splay footed twat Woolford who can't fucking cross with either foot.

Not that long since Cresswell was doing the same. Whether you could describe him as a winger though, I'm not so sure. He did score a few at the back post coming in from a wide position.

I'll be there! Am delighted, made the worst decision of my professional life in sometime by taking a promotion which involves working Saturdays, and have got the next two available for football. So it's BDTBL Friday, Rugby Town V Daventry Monday, hoping for a trip to the seaside next Wednesday and back of to BDTBL the following Saturday. Beer and footy, yup, it might be the usual depressing stuff on pitch.... but what would I rather be doing? working? Meadowhall?

Out and out left winger who arrived in the box regularly, sorry Silent.. Think through the formation he played in.

Sorry? Cresswell was not a winger. Not sure what he was but I think he was supposed to be a front striker in a two. Maybe that's why I misjudged him. I don't think so.

He definitely played wide left on a good number of occasions. At least as many as he did as a central striker I'd say. As I said in my post, whether you'd class him as a winger is another matter, but he was very good at arriving late at the back post on crosses from the right. He scored a few in this way.

I agree he played on the flank a good few times in fact, apologies. It was when we were short of players and the only position we could fit him in. Cresswell "arrived late" for most things IMO.:)

Salmons attacked more on the left wing and made some good crosses from there.

I had only realised recently that David Bradford was wearing number 3 in place of Ted Hemsley in the last 10 games of the 1974-75 season. What I remember about him was that he always played in midfield but cannot picture him staying in the left back position and watching the opponents left winger. Looking at videos, I remember seeing him making a deep run into the box when Bill Dearden equalised at Everton and he was running from the right when he scored the 1st goal against Leicester (both matches in April 1975) so I think we played a formation and one or two players kept a watch on the left side (maybe Flynn?)

Good attacker but I dont think he played wide. Can you recall any of his crosses that led to a goal?
My memory of the Gil was he started on the Right Wing before his leg break, but moved to the left when he recovered as Woody was by then the regular Right winger..When Salmons came in on the left,Gil played as the 2nd striker with Billy, often coming from deep in the promotion season...a masterstroke by JH to put him there,as he was brilliant in that role.

It was a master stroke by J Harris when Gil moved inside he was brilliant. There was a period when he was almost unplayable and got a number of Welsh caps in the process. Reece, woody, dearden, currie and salmons.,enough to frighten any defence for a period around when we won promotion and while they were together at the top table.

So Reece played a lot in the left wing before Salmons. Were his crosses good? Dont remember him doing that since 1970, yes I agree he played as the second striker with Addison and Dearden

I remember being at the Blackpool game when he broke his leg,but was a bit to young to remember to much about him on the right in any detail...He was good on the left though...Don't really remember him for his crossing to be fair, but he was more likely to run past his man,and could go either side of the defender and get in behind to the byline,or cut inside..He was at his best for me when he moved inside and use his pace and skill and eye for a goal.
Yeah Colin Addison..great in the air,and could hold up and shield the ball as good as anybody..great player.
