In today's Observer Aidy Boothroyd is quoted as saying, "Sheffield United are probably

the best team we've played this season."

1st half we were dire defensively, but 2nd half and going forward were we that bad?

Reid, looked to initially like he was making a difference but he very quickly dropped deep. Somebody needs top start taking a hold of the midfield and not letting creative players like Reid drop back so deep.

On the same token, Britton is wasted when he sits so deep.

Coventry defended resolutely and denied us many chances. That said we didn't take the simpler chances

It doesnt take much to impress a man who's approach to the game is to loft the ball to a big striker and bypass the midfield at every oppportunity (i.e. pub tactics). I was surprised that on a couple of occasions the ball was actually on the floor when they had it. Nevertheless they did the thing we're incapable of doing most weeks in creating a decent chance and taking it.

Make no mistake though, that Coventry side was very, very average and will be comfortably beaten by any half decent opposition. That's what worries me about United.....they were there for the taking and we couldnt even get back into the game.

The only plus for me was that in pockets of the game we showed signs of improvement by actually creating some decent chances (something we've failed to do in the last two games and many others). Unsurprisingly we failed to convert any but I at least took a little heart from seeing us in good positions. The negative aspect of this was that after creating a couple of openings in the first half we went completely flat and it was only when Andy Reid came on that we started to threaten their goal again.

We are a very ordinary side that lacks an ability to score goals. A recipe for disaster if you ask me but our home games have been an eye opener this season. Oh how we have fallen!

Left Sheffield nearly 7 years ago now, and only return to catch the odd game or to see my mum. My mum's now moved out Tickhill way so i can't see myself coming into Sheffield that much anymore.

The only thing i miss about Sheffield really is the Peak District.

You sure this is in the right thread Highburs?

That the same Boothroyd that had Ashley Young and Adam Johnson on the wings the year they got promoted?
He is direct but not like Hoofy was with the long ball and negative at the same time.

I listened to the radio commentary of the game on BBC Cov & Warwickshire (object to the fact that I cannot hear Sheffield commentary on the internnet when I pay the same license fee as the locals here - and wont pay for Blades World on principle as the club is already getting paid for the commentary rights). Anyway - they couldn't beleive this was a Sheffield United side. Couldn't believe that we started so slowly and when we went behind they expected a reaction and were stunned when it never materialised. They moaned about a lot of shirt pulling, especially from Taylor and Noswanker. They then suggested that if City could weather the innevitable storm after the break they could be on to a significant win to take them to 4th place. When the second half started they couldn't believe how tame Utd were. As the game went on they remarked how quiet the crowd had become and suggested that the lack of noise was a worse sign than a whole load of baracking and derision. They likened it to a number of games at the Ricoh when Coventry had been really poor over several seasons. Jeez - as good as a shote Sky Blues team. That's a real insult.

Anyway at least we created a number of chances (?) - that pass by Richard Wood to Wardy was a peach and the only through ball that resulted in an attempt on goal - that he should have taken. Other htan that the Cov Commentary team didn't think their keeper was under any pressure at all. The only real scare they had was Reid's free kick - which was an inch from being perfect.

9 goals from 14 games (15 if you count H'Pool in league cup) and 18 conceded (20 inc LC).
It won't change unless Speed gets off this shite 4-5-1 formation and playing players out of position. Playing the game in your own half results in stats as above.

That reporter has chosen his MOM very well hasn't he?

Isn't Boothroyd a Blade anyway? I seem to remember saying he had a massive soft spot for us a few years ago despite growing up in West Yorkshire.
