He's going nowhere!

Fans are fickle. 2 big performances and results and they're back onside. No evidence of this materialising mind but still.

He’s done. Don’t believe there’s any coming back now. Can’t think of a manager in our history who has come back from a while away end chanting for him to be sacked.

There is nothing within that interview to say that he will be staying put other than what he thinks is acceptable (i.e. I will take responsibility, I have made mistakes, etc). The decision will be out of his hands regarding his future and the away following yesterday may just have swung the balance???

People are removed from jobs all the time for making mistakes in all walks of life and this will likely be no different, regardless of if you admit to them or not.

If he stays to the Charlton game, with potentially another loss at Ipswich, then I would personally expect the home environment to be on a knife edge and could turn toxic very quickly.

It was always going to be hard for him, as sacking Wilder divided the fan base. The Wilder in faction, think there's a chance of getting Mardyarse back, so Selles failing ATM plays right into their hands.

We had a good pre-season so I think the players had bought into the philosophy. I still think we are shell shocked after the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half against Bristol City. We still.look dazed and confused.

He needs to implement change slowly. Play 4-4-2 or 3-5-2. Our midfield is being overrun, it offers no defensive or attacking support. Our wingbacks aren't working hard enough on their defensive play.

If he can't see what's in front of him, and is too stubborn to change, then he goes.

He's got 6 more games for me (the league cup is a glorified pre-season friendly). 4 wins minimum in the next 6 games, or he's out.

That's what I'd be doing if I ran the club.
We can't risk waiting that long ! The trap door is wide open and we will fill a big place in there ! Unless we do something quickly.

Unfortunately for Selles, when we’ve all come to terms with this being a “transitional season”….It will be far too late for him.
This cannot be a transitional season unless the next part of the plan from our wonderful owners is on start next summer’s £40 million fire sale early to cover the loss of parachute payments. Make no mistake there will have to be a lot more outgoings next summer if we don’t go up this season!

Honestly, I think he's past that. His framing of the Middlesbrough post match was about listening to the fans, but it was defiance and not humility. He had a full pre season; that should have been plenty of time to get the core of the team familiar with his principles. He's watching different games to the rest of us, defending fine margins while ignoring the infrequency of the chances - we've seen about 20 minutes of the quick flowing 'vertical' football promised, while the remaining 340 league minutes have been turgid, sub-Slavball shite.

Gus?
OHare?

Two rumoured last night to be of interest of other clubs that could be potentially moved on, that would be another two big earners off the wage bill. The loss in revenue was recorded as something like £30m (from memory?) for Swansea during their transition from 2nd to 3rd season of parachute payments. Haven't we also already borrowed against the final parachute payment in any case? Which would likely make the position even worse.

I honestly don't know what we do now and that saddens me no end. The last few years we became a very well established club, we had good players, stopped giving them away and we looked set for a bright future. In a matter of months we've spiralled into a club in total disarray. To some end I blame Wilder for that. He made it about him, surrounding himself with his mates and taking over the club if you would. When the new owners came in they weren't happy that he had so much power and ousted him. That had a lot bigger knock on effect than simply replacing a manager. Not sure the owners knew just how deep his influence was and appointing such an inexperienced manager to come in and overhaul everything needed a bigger man than Selles.

The players looked shell shocked standing in front of the fans at the end of the game today, that didn't do anybody any favours.

UTBFTP 👊👊👊
I also feel sorry for Selles, but SUFC has always been a hard club for any manager/coach to walk into, and not because of a bulging trophy cabinet either. We’ve always been a club at war with itself on and off the pitch. Even our name can be such a misnomer sometimes as disparate opinions amongst our fanbase can differ so widely. Sadly

Yes, buts that’s the point I’m making. The fans (including myself) won’t be raising the white flag anytime soon….That’s why I think Selles will become a statistic very soon.

Feel for the guy he's been shafted by those running the club
But he could have saved himself by not playing that midfield the last two games and that's where the sympathy ends

Middlesbrough like the other four teams before them have been made to look like 70's Brazil by a team that on paper is far superior to them

We are a fucking dream for championship clubs to play against at the moment and it must be killing the players getting humiliated like that on the pitch by teams they could easily match or outpeform with a little tactical nous and preparation

In the last two games we only needed to raise our level slightly from dogshit to competent perhaps even for 5 minutes and we get something but we couldn't manage that

I don't think so.

I think it's a really competitive league this year, so there's lots of time to catch up. 3 teams ran away with it last season (Sunderland played out the season from late December). There are about 10 teams in the mix this year, and I doubt there will be 3 teams who all get 90+ points.

The interviewer is almost apologetic asking him some of the questions but they needed asking. I thought he dealt with the fans singing for him out question well but the rest was pure bollocks from someone who can be likened to a flailing fish out of water at this point.
Agree with all that but also agree with the OP that he doesn't look like someone who's about to leave without a fight. Contrast with Weir's last post-match interview where he looked absolutely broken.

He will end up sacked but probably not after 4 games.

From his point of view he will be telling his gaffers he didnt have the players.

So he will get till around October I think.

I felt it would take time and we would have to be patient with the transition. The issue is that I was also expecting to see bits to hang my hat on. I assumed we would let goals in but we would attack and be aggressive on the ball. New signings would come in and add something.

It does feel like selles has lost the players. It looks like he picks the team he wants (why soumare hasn't featured is beyond me) and they get in the pitch, stick 2 fingers up at the bench and play the same way they did last year... but without any sort of stability in the centre of the park.

Is sacking him the answer? I don't want it to be. I don't like that side of football and in all honesty, who comes in? Dyche and Cooper are 2 names people are throwing around like it's a given. They are both PL managers... I don't think they will want to come to us and I don't think we afford them... so then who else.

International break should be a chance to implement what he wants or at least do something!

Ipswich is going to be my second ever away match... can't say I am looking forward to it

The Ipswich game is a whisker away from being a must-win in the eyes of the fans. At the very least we need to see some belief, some urgency, some desire, chances created and a coherent style of play. He has two weeks to get everyone on side and achieve all this.

It's a gargantuan task for Selles and based on the evidence I can't see it happening, but the next game is basically the end of his probation period. Show us what we need to see or we'll show you the door.

United waited too long to act when Jokanovic was in charge, probably because he had a history of getting teams promoted from the championship. Seles has no evidence to suggest he will ever be a successful manager. It's not entirely his fault, but he needs to go asap.

  • Ipswich Away (who also haven't won a game)
  • Charlton Home
  • Oxford Away

If I were on the board I would be thinking if we don't get at least 5 points from the next three games he should be sacked. 7 games in isn't too far gone and we could still make the play offs, with the right manager.
Have you seen anything that makes you think 5 points from the 3 games is likely.
There is no improvement at all in any of the games sofar and he can't even see the problems. He needs To go now

He’s done. Don’t believe there’s any coming back now. Can’t think of a manager in our history who has come back from a while away end chanting for him to be sacked.

I'd just be careful how many precious precedents we're setting. New boy comes in: '82 points and no promo = am gettin fckd off, 4 wank opening results = am gettin fcked off".

It's a joke

Fronting up to the fans after the game and accepting responsibility in the post match interview suggest that he is far less gutless and weak than, say, your average keyboard warrior.

Its a good point you make.

Thinking about it, on here other week the right on view was that we shouldn't boo RND as look what happened to Gary Speed and the fans were arseholes

What therefore is the righteous stance on those name calling Selles at the end of the game?

Not hired to be brave with performative gestures, hired to make a top 6 team and squad look better than Charnock Ridgeway U11s.

I'd normally be frothing at the mouth to be honest but seeing that 'sacked in the morning' shite after the game was fucking cringeworthy for me, and I actually felt sorry for the bloke. Whoever came in after Wilder was going to be met by weeping and wailing from the poor little lambs who'll never get over losing 'Our Chrissy' and even if we'd won four on the bounce they'd still be fucking moaning.
Likewise I found the 'sacked in the morning' chant cringeworthy and it happened more than once towards the end of the match. There were also several renditions of ' Chrissy Wilder and Alan Knill' as well.

The most obvious negative (I thought) was our team having a huddle in our own half whilst someone was being treated on the touchline with the Borough players having drinks on the touchline with their coaching staff - our huddle seemed to be orchestrated by Hamer and I would have thought in normal times they would have been getting instructions from the coaching staff.

He appears to be out of his depth and seeing the United players getting a reasonable reception after the match., immediately followed by a negative reaction to Selles as he stepped forward - couldn't decide whether he was brave or arrogant to do that.

I still maintain he needs time. We're already a bit of laughing stock, sacking after 4 games (regardless how bad it is) is not right.

Time to do what? What will he do with this time? Try and drill into the same players the formation and tactics of schoolyard football that leaves massive gaps between players in midfield? Drill them in the same tactics that has provided one shot on target in 4 games? Persuade the entire squad to believe in his insane tactics when they clearly know it isn’t working and won’t work? Work on wondrous theoretical formations that involve a big strapping powerhouse centre forward playing left wing?

He needs time to consider his position and then rapidly come to the conclusion that he’s not a football manager. I saw enough against Bristol and Millwall for me to know time will do nothing to change this clown’s lack of football knowledge.

I’m on record saying he’s done. I don’t expect him to be here much longer. But my point, which you appear to have misunderstood, absolutely stands. Gutless & weak? Far less so than many of the posters on here. Not even debatable.

I think that interview shows his complete lack of understanding of the situation. He intimated it was fine lines between us winning or them winning. We didn't get the breaks, they did. Sorry but that's bullshit and anyone can see it is. Campbell had a half chance, and McAllum. Apart from that absolutely nothing. If Tanganga hadn't been on the pitch we would have lost by many more. If he can't see the turgid, weak and uninspiring style of football we have played in the last 400 minutes or so then it shows his lack of ability. I'd accept if he said, it's not going right, we understand this. I'm working hard with the players to adapt to a new system. We are not anywhere near where I want us to be, but the vision remains and I'm working hard to get there. He didn't, he said we lost by fine lines to a very good team. Boro weren't a very good team. As a lot gave quoted, this year the championship looks a lot more competitive. I havent seen a Leeds, Burnley or even SUFC 2024 team yet. Early days but I dont see the likes of Boro running away with it. We need to act now. The guy is clueless. Any experienced manager could get a better tune from these players. The squad is fine imo. It could all still be on, but winning promotion is a very line and 12 points adrift could become 18 or 20 if we don't get rid in next few games

Perhaps fronting up was brave but it looked more like defiance than accepting any kind of responsibility
Same with the post match interview on sky. When asked by the interviewer why we didn't create enough chances he said I don't accept that. We created enough opportunities to get something from the game.
Being stubborn and deluded at the same time are not great traits for us to hang our hat in that he can change this situation.
Playing that midfield 3. When we've all seen it doesn't work is just a working example of the above.
I can't see a way back for him from this.
As Rodley said. He's cooked.

I don’t think they’ll sack him , I think they should but as fans getting at him and the players doesn’t help the situation. We should rally around him and the team and hope it changes.
I like the way he speaks and he seems a decent guy really hope it changes for him and especially for us.
Here’s hoping UTBFTP

So we can him immediately. 4 games in. Should we do the same in 4 games time with the new guy should results be no better?

It's wank right now. But firing him so soon further erodes our already 'waffer thin' integrity.
