Cast your minds back 10 days when we lost to Gillingham, in fact have a read of a couple of the remarkable threads from that weekend.

Cast your minds back to last Friday when Murphy left us, in fact have a read of a couple of the remarkable threads then.

Three straight wins and the mood has changed. Is that all it takes?

Adkins has still only been with us for 76 days and knows he can soon dip down another big, steep drop in the roller coaster job he has taken on.

Some posters should have a look at their posts over the past 10 days and just keep their powder dry when we next lose a game as we surely will. Let's support the man and the club. We are SUFC, a League 1 club of five years standing, not Real Madrid. Give the man time to do his job and appreciate he has a an unusually long injury list at this stage of the season and with Murphy's departure has to do without him and his two other very best players for a while.

What? It's the Board's fault, sorry, get real.

Disagree about the aftermath of Gillinghham - After the debacle of Gillingham the whole playing team needed a kick up the arse.

Basham's very honest interview spelled it all out for me. Yes WELL DONE to the players but who's to say the mass reaction didn't have an effect on the players and the management.

For all we know the brilliant signing of Edgar wasn't as a result of the 1st game and coupled with the subtle moving of Mcev, isn't the catalyst for the change around.

Whilst some may have gone over the top - generally justified for me.

Agree about Murphy though - we have a better player in Murphy and Done is to come back - much more suited to this division - IMO.

Adkins has remained consistently positive (does he have any other setting?!), he didn't overreact to the Gillingham game and wont go over the top after 3 victories.

I'm hoping we look back on the Gillingham defeat the same was Norwich fans look back on their 7-1 (?) defeat to Colchester the season they got promoted.

Let's not get carried away I agree we shouldn't be slagging him after 1 loss but neither should we be saying he's a hero after 2 league wins.

It seems he has set us up to play a more attacking entertaining style of football and at the minute it is delivering results. However this does leave us a bit open (a point with NA as recognised)

He will get my full support over the whole season and then I will pass judgement.

He still needs to sign 3/4 players for me and that will form part of the criteria he is judged on.

In summary a positive start with promising signs but still a way to go to prove be we are serious promotion contenders.

To be fair, after the Gills match he was serious and highly critical of his team's defending of set-pieces and said it was not acceptable for the travelling fans in particular.

Youve always been a hero to some WWF........

I think rather than first game of the season, Gillingham was last game of last season in terms of desire, energy, discipline etc and the first real opportunity for NA to see what level they were operating at under NN. All the issues wont all go away in a couple of weeks, but a couple of additions and a couple of tweaks have certainly pointed us in more promising direection. Up to all concerned to keep showing it , especially when we get put under the pump again, before we can start feeling confident about promotion.

I think we've all been around long enough to realise that football is full of ups and downs. Most of the angst felt by fans hasn't been about whether we've won/drawn/lost the last game. It's about why we are stuck at this level for so long. The constant selling of our best talent.

Our (current) demise started after the POF final against Burnley in 2009. We all knew the team hadn't 'turned up' on the day, but we've seen that many times. Move on. But it was the hurried demolishing of a more-than-tidy squad immediately after this game that has landed us where we currently are.

Your contradicting yourself here I think.

Your accusing other blades of being rash whilst coming across as just that in this thread.

Even though I havent seen one dig at Adkins these past 10 days, football is an emotional sport, even more so if your passionate about your club which the majority of blades are.

It's natural and said blades dont deserve tiresome threads like this.

Have I missed summat ? Is anyone not giving Adkins time to stamp his mark on the team ? They got deserved criticism at Gillingham and have come back with three wins, we will get ups and downs through the season but at least playing the Adkins way if we win one then lose one it will still be better than two Clough bore draws, not that this will happen we will win more than we lose.
Another waste of a thread brought to you by Woodwardfan .

First week of the season and a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of a Gillingham who without being disrespectful, in the natural order of things we are a club who should be at least 1-2 tiers above, couple with the sale of one of our best players and factor in this is our 5th season in League One, then what did everyone expect.

Every scrap of criticism was justified after a 4-0 annihilation by Gillingham at this lowly level, on the opening day of the season no less.
The day we start being indifferent to obscenities like that is the day the club can be officially declared dead.

That said, enormous credit to Nigel for the changes made since, & to the players for how they've reacted so positively.
Everyone's happy again & it's obvious why.

Woodwardfan i don't really see what you're getting at? I think the reactions after losing 4-0 at Gillingham after being told by Phipps, Adkins and anyone else on the SUFC PR bandwagon were entirely justified. People talked of how it was a shock defeat, but it came as little to surprise to most on here, because quite simply we'd failed to address the defensive problems of last season during the summer. Replacing the manager, the pitch and bringing out two shit kits were not going to stop us leaking goals, even if Collins was happy to be back playing, a shit player is still a shit player.

Adkins, fortunately has managed to patch things up, Long lacked confidence and was promptly dropped for Howard but most telling was the addition of Edgar. I'm still far from convinced that Collins will be the answer to any other question than "which defender shall we get rid of today". There are still many questions in the back four, left back looks to be a big issues when the opposition has good right wingers/ wing play, central midfield still looks too weak and the balance on the wings is not ideal.

So, whilst two league wins in a matter of days is great, plus a win against a league 2 side in the cup, it's with caution that we look to build on this 'run'. Have we been lucky to come away from the last two games with 6 points? Probably not, although against Chesterfield the two goals came at a great time in the game and Chesterfield were extremely wasteful in attack, over 15 corners and they produced just two shots on target all game.

Great to get the 6 points on the board, two decent performances out of three and its onwards and upwards, as i say though, with caution.

Woah there cowboy.

We fucking crashed - badly in our first game with witness accounts saying the team was all over the shop, in particular the back four, to blame of all of the goals. Even our opponent supporters that day were saying 'is it really that easy?' and 'what the fuck happened to Sheffield United?' The lack of investment in the back four said it all with Collins and McEverley looking like pub-side pissheads.

Then suddenly Jamie Murphy, a significant (if not massively prolific, but ranged against the rest of the team, possibly our best prospect) winger isn't playing and we all feel that low tummy ache we felt with McDonald, Blackman and Maguire. Then guess what? He's fucking sold.

So forgive people the barefaced cheek to be cynical, given this pattern in the past has led to season after season of underwhelming failure here, two streets downtown from the bright lights of Main Street. We've not really trod that path for some years now and wish at sometime to be back.

Sure - we beat Morecambe (it wasn't pretty or conclusive, was it) and beat Chesterfield - a team which again, witnesses say are not the team they threaten to be. Last night was a brilliant illustration of what this team is capable of

Let's see where we are at the end of September. The league will have settled and I expect us to be at least in the top two if last night's great result is anything to go by. We have to go back to Swindon to exorcise last season (and that will be a test) and a couple of Yorkshire derbys, and if we can champion that, maybe, just maybe ... we might be getting there.

Maybe linzi or foxy would know from stats they may pull off the site, but generally is there more posts after a loss or a win? After a sale of a top player like Murphy or a big signing like sharp? We love a good moan don't we so I think I know which one it would be.

Best case scenario: he remains bubbly albeit coated in chocolate and, although available in a lovely, moreish mint flavour, leaves you with that overriding feeling that pound for pound, you're not quite getting the best value for money.

Worse case scenario: becomes a vengeful tyrant who merely watches this great seven-hilled city burn, inviting acute, widespread disdain and eventually bringing about his own demise, thereby ending the Nigellian dynasty.

Somewhere in between should see us into the playoffs though.

In hindsight , the 4-0 tonking might prove to be the best thing that could have happened

its certainly helped focus things

only 1 point off runners up spot

Still only 3points off top, just like we were after the Gillingham defeat

He had a decent game but MOM ? Ran the show ? Come on.

We controlled the game because of him. Everything went through him, wether it be starting an attack off or slowing the game and keeping possession. the goal was a Beauty too.

That's just ridiculous ,he had a decent game for his standards ,but the only thing I agree with was his finish.Wallace showed what a midfielder should do in the few minutes he was on.

Agreed. There were plenty of concerns last night and in his post-match interview I thought he was, er, sober. Which hasn't always been true of our managers.

I think he strikes exactly the right balance.
