What are peoples thoughts on Henderson starting v QPR? Simonsen has come out saying how awesome he looks in training an by all accounts, he looked pretty sharp v Watford bar his sending off!

Good idea IMO, Vokes has gone, and as long as he keeps his cool, he'll fit the slot nicely.

I'd love it if he wasn't such a liability. The problem is, we go down to ten men, we lose the game. Not only have we got to deal with being shit, we also have to contend with the possibility of losing a man.

I'd start him.

We've been crying out for him all season. He could make a difference and be a real handful for their defence. His sending off was harsh and I would not hold it against him.

Adams does need to have a stern word though. He was fired up for the game against Watford and needs to remain calm for this one (if he does play). Warnock will have briefed the QPR defenders and they'll know what to do. Henderson needs to be sensible and be squeeky clean.

I think Hendo could be a real asset in the last 8 games. He could be the difference. He clearly wants to prove a point and is itching to get going (Watford and training). However he needs to keep his cool, be patient, not get wound up or get dragged into a battle with the centre halves and not give the referee anything to penalise him on.

Adam's reasoning for getting Bent's match fitness up was correct so I'd imagine that he'll apply the same to Hendo (and he did v Watford). Bringing a player in 'cold' off the bench can also increase the risk of injury, but more importantly, if you bring a player in with 30 mins to go then he'll only get 30 mins game time regardless of how his fitness is improving. But start him then you can play him progressively until he tires (perhaps first game 45 mins, second 60, 3rd 80, 4th 90 etc etc).

As has been said, Vokes has gone now so Hendo can do this job. So it makes sense in many ways

The problem with hendo is his inability to change his game, he continues to get involved in a battle with a defender, instead of using his nouse and perhaps pulling out wide to receive the 'hoof' - this either drags a centre half out to fullback position, giving a dilema whether to go with or pass him over, either way it upsets the balance.

So Adams needs to address this IF he starts him.

I'd start Hendo and Ched. Let Ched play off him and leave Boggy on the bench.

My worry is if he plays Collins!

I thought the reason we got it just about right against Forest and Leeds was that we dominated midfield and made chances thro a mobile forward line in which Voakes and Evans linked up well. I'm sorry Voakes has gone. I worry that with Henderson as the main attacing threat we become predictable and the game becomes a stop start affair. For QPR fine, play Hendo we want to be as awkward as possible - but for home games??????

Who do you think Warnock will detail to wind Hendo up the most??

I think the totally avoidable and unnecessary departure of Vokes gives us a massive problem now.
We could have had the luxury of naming an unchanged, winning team with 11 fully fit players.
Instead, Adams will be forced to manage with an half-fit Henderson for maybe an hour, then change the team around again when he tires.
The alternative is to play either Creswell, Evans or Bogdanovic in the "target man" role that they're all unsuitable for and have failed in all season.
I hope I'm wrong but I think we'll look back on the decision to release Vokes as the moment when United sealed their own fate.

Didn't he also play the other night? You're right in saying he should be fully fit, but it's his "eagerness" that I'm worried about.

Henderson looked good in training when we watched him the other week, should be fully fit by now.

Not according to Micky Adams and Steve Simonsen he isn’t:-

Adams - “We need him fit and the only way we’ll get him fit is by playing those games” (14/03/11)
Simonsen - "He is not going to be match fit but the only way he can get that is out on the field” (31/03/11)

Can we really afford the luxury of carrying a player who isn’t “match fit” for the next few games?

I don't think there's much choice but to start with Henderson up front. It's not ideal by any means as he's not fully match fit, but the other options have failed all season. He scored better than a goal every 3 games for us last season, which is a very decent record in the role he plays.

Looking back over the last five or six seasons, on average he gets sent off once a season. A poor record, but none the less I think it's over doing it to say that the major concern about playing him is that he'll be sent off.

As Eskimo says, I'm afraid we have to go to QPR and be awkward if we want to have a chance of getting anything. Henderson can do that, plus he can grab a goal. The right player for this game I would say.

But looking back at his time with us he has FOUR sending offs in just over 50 starts. That would be piss poor for a central defender but for a striker is scandalous.

He's got a goal in him so has to start in the absence of Vokes. And if he keeps us up I'll let him marry any woman in my family.

But I still think he's a complete chuff nugget.

If he's not fit, he doesn't start.

As Vokes has gone back we have to make one change and with Riise available it'll probably be two. I think Henderson starting up front will mean little disruption of the new found rythm, and then Adams will have to decide between Evans and Boggy.

Riise was rather disappointing for Norway on Saturday, but I reckon he'll be starting on Monday.

I think if he does it'll mean the termination of the new found rhythm and we'll go back to 4-5-1 and hiting it long for the target man again. And if the target man isn't match sharp....

I'd be more in favour of bringing him on if were chasing the game with 20 to go as an additional forward. With the gap now up to 7 points, it's time to be brave.

I have a sneaky feeling we might get something from this game. Bloody hope so. A point would be a real confidence booster. Three would be fantastic.

Concord looked good when it was on the ground.

looked pretty bloody good in the air too tho im not sure what the astetic aerodynamics of a supersonic passenger jet has to do with if henderson should start or not:confused:
back to the topic at hand, micky needs wins and if hendo can give him them, match fit or not then he has to start, hes not going to get match fit doing a last 20 mins of a coupla games.
as stated start him with ched feeding of him in a 4-4-2, that fails bring on boggy or if slew on the bench put both boggy n slew on, give defences different headaches :)
hey it works in football manager

I`m sure i`m not on my own here, it`s not whether he starts or not that is the concern, it`s whether the bloke has enough about him to stay on the damn field. Down to ten again and any slim hope of an upset, we can all kiss goodbye. Derry will be one of a couple who will be chelping in his earhole i`m sure.

Don`t think he`s worth the risk, he never seems to learn, he may be hard done by sometimes, but, the guy doesn`t help himself.

Big dilemma where to watch the match. I work in Leeds live in Hudds and believe firmly that my choice of pub has a strong bearing on the outcome of the game. Actually there are many unlucky pubs near where I live including the White Hart at Denby Dale (Sunderland play off semi, Derby and many other games) and the Odd fellows Shelley (Man U away when Shelton was brought down and many other games).

In Sheffield I like the atmosphere in the Red Lion on Charles St, but that's no good now since Donny played us off the park earlier this year. The Museum (Cardiff away when we clinched promotion) and the Fat Cat (Newcastle away when Gillespie scored) are still good, but its a bit of a trek to Sheffield.

Leeds is unknown territory and I guess some one would speak loudly about Sheffield this and Sheffield that and how we moaned about Tevez. But if I could find a Blades possee in a Leeds or Wakefield pub I might try it. It might be the Rising Sun at Shelley this evening though, not tried that one before.

There will be very few pubs linked to united televised wins, with the exception of forest play off semi and weds last year I can't think of many! We always seem to play poorly in front of the cameras.

I am sure we beat Arsenal at home in the PL live on TV?

Do United open up the Tunnel Bar for matches like this? At least United have won their last two with you (presumably) at The Lane.
