Read a little further down for what I’d like to know. Any information on why, maybe I’m missing something obvious?

Stoke city are one of the original founding member of the football league, formed in 1863 just a few years after our own Sheffield FC.

The Blades have the better record

SUFC wins - 44

Draws - 30

Stoke wins - 36

Our first meeting in 1893 we were thrashed 5-0 at the Victoria ground where they played home games at since 1878 until their move to the Brittania in 1997, that’s the original name of it and I’ve always used it since. The brittania was one of the original soulless bowls/stadiums in my opinion along with many others like Reading but I suppose it’s been needs must for some clubs as the Victoria ground was run down and maintenance costs rise.

On Boxing Day in 1904 we won them 5-2 at the lane in front of 14,000 this was just a few weeks after the legendary Fatty Foulke left the club, he was replaced by Joe Leivesley who I presume played in this game. Arthur Brown got a hat trick and Jimmy Donnely got two.

Since I’ve been looking at head to heads it’s confirmed what I always knew anyway that high scoring games occurred regularly before the 50’s but against stoke their seems to be a lot of 3-2’s, 3-1’s and 3-0’s consistently until around the early 60’s I suppose this coincides with the unbelievable attitude around that time that it’s probably a good thing having more the two or three defenders ! Anyone who’s spoke to parents and grandparents will know that back years ago they’d regularly play 5 up front and out wide.

We never played stoke in the cup until 1946.. now I may need a bit of help understanding what happened here, we played stoke away on the 26th of January in the 4th round and lost 2-0. “So they knocked us out of the FA Cup” I hear you say. No, we played them 2 days later on the 28th of January at Bramall Lane and won them 3-2. The FA cup to my knowledge has never been over two legs. The only note on both of these games is that the second game at Bramall lane has an official attendance of 50,000 but the note says the gates were forced open and the attendance was estimated to be around 60,000 ?? We never played in the 5th round so it has to have been played over two legs as we lost on aggregate.

In the 74/75 which is known for the one where we narrowly missed out on Europe we played stoke at home towards the end of the season in mid April and won 2-0 an Eddy penalty and Field goal securing the win.

October 1996 we won 4-0 away from home with Michael Vonk scoring two, Gareth Taylor and Andy Walker got the others.

From February 1988 to April 2004 we didn’t lose to Stoke in 13 meetings. The last time we lost at home to them was a 0-1 loss back in 2007. Since what I’d refer to as the “Wilder renaissance” (league 1) we’ve played each other 6 times, lost two, drawn two and won two. The two losses being away and the two wins being at home.

There’s only one video from against Stoke worth sharing

We played Stoke in a league match on 14th June 1947! We beat them 2-1 to deny them the league title. 38 year old Jack Pickering scored one of our goals.

The Football League would not resume until the 1946/47 season post the war. So the 1945/46 FA Cup was played over two legs to get more games, and more gate receipts, for the clubs. Many of whom were trying to find their feet again and struggling financially
If I was thinking straight I should’ve just gone onto that season’s Wikipedia page and found that out myself. However, thank you.
