This is the level we're at now boys (no offence Dave).

Can i ask why a brand new stadium doesn't have under soil heating? Surely something like that this day and age should be on the standard parts list for a new sports stadium!

Pah!! if the Romans were still running the place the Game would still be on ........

Romans v the Britons, game abandoned due to Britons being incensed by a refereeing decision and burning the place down. True story. ;)

Haha could have been that, but more the history of Colchester. Got destroyed by the Britons to get rid of the first Roman capital City of our great shores.

Half of the Championship grounds don't have undersoil heating. If it'd been Portsmouth away this weekend it might have been cancelled.

Fair play to the referee for making an early decision.

Also frustrating that we've not had chance to bounce back after our drubbing (as IOM points out) and we now have another week sitting on our hands. I'd sooner have been going to Huddersfield with 2 wins under our belts.

Also a little frustrating that assuming this won't be rearranged for before the Huddersfield game, the last match of Beattie's suspension will now be the Huddersfield game.

** red rag is waved infront of Ollessndro's face ...... he cannot resist**

Sorry, but I just cannot see what relevance this has. Our 34 year old, not scored for more than 2 years in a competetive game has not exactly been pulling up any trees has he? Do we expect the ill disciplined has been to suddenly bang in a goal (in the 3 minutes he spends on the pitch after the game has been won or - more to it - lost) against one of the best teams in the league.

We might get a penalty though Ollie.

Agreed, well done to Colchester for sorting it early and keeping us all informed. I knew a Colchester fan once, he worked with me. They seem like a nice bunch to be fair. Good luck to them (apart from when they play us!)

Due to existing commitments, I still had to drive the 2 hours to Ipswich yesterday and so went straight past the ground. Grrrr. The Community Stadium ground looked nice in the snow this afternoon.....

I still went down to Colchester anyway, having booked a hotel room, decide to use it etc. Anyway, went to the ground friday afternoon after hearing about the cancellation - there was nowt wrong with the pitch. We wandered in, had a look round, apart from a small patch, it was okay. Really pissed me off.

What a place to build a ground! Imagine if we were to relocate to Sheffield Airport, and you might have an idea of how bad a decision Colchester have made. There must have been far more suitable sites than that.

well there you go, the whole pitch has to be playable.

I sympathise with alex, after booking a hotel etc. Howver, this clearly seemed like a sensible decision. Dave, Colchester and the ref all stated that it was an area of the pitch close to the South Stand that was not getting any sun. Whether it is a small area or not, it was completely frozen. It is extremely frustrating, but just seems a bit daft to be blaming Colcehster United FC. Personally I think they acted swiftl and decisively. Showing the initiative will have helped a lot of Blades fans.

Judging by the weather in SW London on Saturday afternoon/evening it might have been a blessing in disguise. It could have been potentially not very safe for fans leaving the ground. Imagine any Blades fans driving back? Of course this is not the reason for it being called off, but think it just adds extra weight to it being a good decision by Colchester.

Colchester definitely did the right thing, not so bad for me as I'm only coming from Norfolk but the majority of you would have had longer and further to travel - as it turned out the snow Saturday night made driving conditions horrific, so I'm glad it was called off!

Will the tickets for the match AND the car park still be valid for the rearranged fixture?

I think the last two posts have got it spot on. It's not just the pitch that had to be taken into account, it's the fans.

My girlfriend is a steward at the Lane and at Hillsborough (despite being 5'2 and very slim before the jokes come in ;)) and it took her an hour and 40 minutes to get from Hillsborough to Greenhill in her dad's 4x4 because there were that many people getting stuck due to not having a clue to drive in the snow. Things like that need to be taken into account and I think it was the right decision for them to cancel it in the end. It's not ideal, but it was sensible.

I dread to think what the journey back would have been like.

Norfolk, they will both still be valid as they are for the fixture and not for the date.

I went anyway, it was the most boring game I have ever seen.

just bumping/Ollecising this thread, as Col U Dave gave some handy info last year and with the Blades travelling to the U's on Sat-di it may come in handy

Parking and ale houses please Dave. As near as possible to the ground and serving real ale. Bricklayers looks like the best bet? Someone was saying that it might be home fans only though. Can you shed any light Dave?

edit: definately not letting away fans in. They've even got doorman on. Any chance of us getting a decent pint somewhere?

Head for the Half Butt Inn, CO6 4ET. Ten minutes from the ground!

Thanks, but that was for last season's fixture! I am on the train this time. Will be having a few in the Victoria Inn before kick off and taxi-ing up to the ground.
