It wasn’t the season after we finished 3rd he was sacked, it was the season after.Lot to like about Hecky, he is definitely a better fit for this squad than Jokanovic, albeit I wanted Slav to stay but it's clear the board wanted him to get more out of the existing team and his tactics and approach just weren't suited to these players. . The appointment reminds me of when Blackwell was appointed and instantly we saw an improvement in tempo and desire and we finished strongly and almost made the play offs. Next season we finished 3rd and then he was sacked, bizarrely three games into the next season and we know the rest. I never particularly rated Blackwell though, his managerial record isn't much to speak of. Hecky is undoubtedly a better manager than Blackwell, my only concern is longer down the line that without investment we're going to struggle - whoever is in charge. But for now, lots to be positive about.
Blade1959 is correct: under Blackwell United finished 9th in 2007/08 (he took over from Robson in February), 3rd in 2008/09 (lost to Burnley in the play off final) and 8th in 2009/10. He was sacked two league games into the 2010/11 season (D1, L1; we also lost at Hartlepool in the league cup) and replaced by Gary Speed.Lot to like about Hecky, he is definitely a better fit for this squad than Jokanovic, albeit I wanted Slav to stay but it's clear the board wanted him to get more out of the existing team and his tactics and approach just weren't suited to these players. . ...been on the Port ?The delight on the players faces tells a lot.A Vale has been lifted off the players .
Not saying we can crash the playoffs but the team played with freedom and enjoyed it like we did despite the weather..thanks Hecki! this only a start..![]()
Forgot about the midtable season under Blackwell after the 3rd. Bit harsh though on Blackwell though re resigning because why would McCabe accept Blackwell's resignation when he'd just took us to 3rd and almost promotion. Then we sold the two Kyles and we'd sold Tonge and Beattie the season before. But don't get me wrong, Blackwell wasn't a great manager but he did quite well in fairness, but the football wasn't great to say the least!Blade1959 is correct: under Blackwell United finished 9th in 2007/08 (he took over from Robson in February), 3rd in 2008/09 (lost to Burnley in the play off final) and 8th in 2009/10. EDIT: Blackwell offered to resign after the 2009 play off final. Only Kevin McCabe will know why he talked Blackwell out of it; any sane person would have taken that opportunity to relieve us of him with both hands.
