I'm in a dilemma over this issue. I have grown to like Hecky over the last couple of years and he has worked well with the shit hand he has been dealt, but never complained, never used it as an excuse. For this i admire him greatly.
I think his real skill is working with the younger players and helping them develop. Look at the transformation in McAtee last year. One of the reasons he came back was that he recognised this.
However, I have always been critical of his tactical nous. So many weird team selections and substitutions. His lack of ability to affect the game when it's obvious we were faltering. Even last year we were baffled at times and we still won automatic promotion. This gave him the right to start as manager this season.
But as things stand, our standard of play has diminished. Some really unfortunate events has obviously affected the team spirit. We have had some great performances under Hecky, but somehow I now feel he doesn't have the team behind him and I do not believe he and his assistants have the capability to turn this rudderless boat around. We may not have premiership class players, but we are not the only ones. It is the lack of spirit, the lack of a defined method of play, the ability to see when we are failing and trying to do something to change it that really bothers me.
We have to do something different, and quickly as the rot is setting in.
I'll throw a name in the hat, a good tactician. Carrick. I expect to be shot down. But he can change things round and he gets a lot from his players with a sound tactical brain.
Hecky should be offered a way out, but what, I'm not sure. That's for PA a Hecky to decide.

Have read all the posts and have come to the conclusion that we don't need a new this or that we need an exorcist. Someone who can get topside of the bad luck that seems to follow the club around. Tongue back in cheek!👍👍

I do really feel for the bloke. Just got around to watching the post match interview with SUTV and he just sounds utterly shell shocked, the gallows humour about how close they are getting to "me, Macca and Jack playing".

I wish him nothing but the best because he's been shat on by fate at every turn, but at the moment he sounds like a man who has realised there's absolutely nothing he can do to keep us up in this situation.

Maybe nothing anyone else can do either, but at least they'll have some self belief in the short term.

He has to go

We are a complete non entity, and despite the difficult hand he's been dealt, he should have made us far more competitive than this. Lacking quality is excusable, the rest isn't

He deserves to go with his head held high, and his reputation in tact. If he leaves now, he'll have that. If we let it carry on much longer, he'll be tainted because its only going to become more obvious how out of his depth he is

I think Hecky needs to go and go now whilst he still retains the best wishes of the fans.

Yes many of us may not want him to continue because of the state of things at the lane but we are going nowhere and need a change.

It is a sad situation that has been caused by the Prince and the board but sadly Hecky hasn't helped himself in recent games refusing to change and being stubborn like Chris Wilder before him which ultimately cost him his job.

We need a change from top to bottom new ownership and a new manager as right now we are a badly run laughing stock.

I feel like we need a poll for everyone's preferred manager to come in, if Hecky was to go. I've got a feeling it would be all over the place with no clear winner, demonstrating how it's not a clear and easy Hecky out situation

I was sitting on the fence until I looked at the situation on an individual basis to see which players could perform better with another manager.
Foders: probably playing as well as he can.
Bogle: can definitely improve in many ways
Thomas: Not sure how good he can be.
Anel: can definitely play better
Robinson: probably as good as expected
Trusty: probably as good as expected
Souza: I’m sure this guy can improve.
Norwood: Definitely still has more to offer
Hamer: Definitely has more to offer
McB: Needs more from midfielders to improve
Archer: Same as McB needs far more support.
Team tactics: 100% these can be changed and improved upon. Playing the same way every week is achieving nothing.

So based on that, the team has huge potential to play so much better even with the current players. With that in mind a new manager would have plenty of opportunities to achieve so much more than the current set up.

I keep reading how a change won't keep us up, deluded etc. Obviously the players are so lacking in confidence that the current management group have created the appearance of an impossible job to change the playing performance. New management CAN change that mindset. Not saying they will, but it can and has happened. I don't want Hecky to lose his job cause I don't like him, I want him to lose his job cause he is not doing his job. The phrase "nice guys don't win" is appropriate. You think Pep and Klopp are nice guys? They have that mentality that brings results. Hecky doesn't have it. Hell most of us don't. That is why you hire a guy to get results or they are gone. It's the nature of the business. So everyone who wants him gone want results, it's not personal. Sorry Hecky, it is time.

yeah cant disagree with any of that wilder and hecky are very similar with their stubborness to try something different and i really cant understand how hecky cannot see the problem of us being overun in midfield and just try something different and its gonna cost him his job

Hecky won't leave the club he was brought up on a 5 year contract with no pressure and given a good squad .He still has that contract so either back with the kids or he can look elsewhere.

Changing the the manager changes nothing. You can;t polish a turd, although he bought the turds.
There’s lots a new manager can change:
Tactics appropriate to premier league
Player confidence
Player fitness
Recruitment in January
Etc etc

The squad is garbage,
What’s left of it, Bash, Baldock, Osbourne, Egan and bad buy Davies all long term injured. McAtee not the same bloke, Archer not fitting our system and Anel not stepping up.

We’ve got to change something, we can’t change or add to squad, HJSMc can’t get owt out of what’s left of squad so only thing left to change is owner, manager or both. Seeing as former is still 6 weeks away on a rolling basis that only leaves manager.

Think he would have goneyesterday but for it looking a tad insensitive after what happened to Bash.

yes think you might be right 56 the bad injury to bash has probably saved hecky from the sack for now but i think his days are numbered 2 nailed on defeats in our next 2 against manure and the arse so think its inevitable hes sacked

Still say that what happened to Bash today totally knocked the players and management. It must have been hard to try and play thinking about your friend and colleague suffering that injury. Same with hecky, probably trying to get the team playing whilst thinking about bash. Can't have been easy for any of them. We have had a tough few weeks as a club and it's got to affect people
Sorry whilst we all feel the pain of the last few weeks its no excuse for not giving your best on every occasion.

Pep and Klopp also have war chests full of cash to buy world class players. I get what you mean in personalitys though.
