I thought typical yoonited doing stuff on the cheap. League 1 in 2 years haha. I clearly diddnt know how good a manager Hecky was/is. Plus i'm naturally a pessimist anyway.

I wonder if he'll change his interview style next season for the ridiculous amount of media that comes with being in the PL? He's very matter of fact with the local journo's, but he's familiar with them and they ask the question and expect a dead bat response from him. He might get pressed a bit more on certain issues by some of the smart arse national and international media mob next season.

He looks like Noel Gallagher in a weird way, bit like Damian Lewis as well. But then he doesn't. It's because they all resemble that bloke from Thunderbirds.

It was a good fit. The time he had with the squad post Wilder is the key for success. He probably put his arm round a lot of players who felt lost and confused. Combined with trusting youth. Got us playing in a way that had worked so well for us - and suited particular players - not that long back. Seems obvious really. What Slav tried was a car crash.

I think he is a very good coach. One equally as happy working with youth. Possibly happier at that level as doesn’t seem to like the relentless media nonsense involved at first team level.

Honestly can't fault the bloke. Has the best win % of any permanent manager, talks well and is honest without throwing players under the bus. He's also been a phenomenal leader through a very uncertain time. Hasn't let off field matters distract the team and doesn't look for excuses, unlike previous managers. Oh and he's brought young players into the fold, which was my biggest criticism of our last period of success.

I don't think he's a great manager, but I do think he's a great manager for this club.
Spot on , right man at right time and done a decent job despite turmoil . Of course he was helped greatly by the Prince not selling our best players , though that had probably more to do with the size of the offers we received than anything else . Think Heck will have to toughen up with team selections in the prem ,re showing to much loyalty to players out of form or not producing , there can be no passengers at that level . He and his staff certainly deserve great credit for getting the defence organised so well , specially when taking into account the fact that we havent really had a fully settled back 5 , and the midfield hasnt been exactly the best in the division ! We could have done with a few more goals of course but only illiman comes out with much credit of the attacking players , that lads run his blood to watter every game , although Sharp has come back well with some handy cameos . It is to be hoped the ownership issue is resolved quickly so Heck can get on with the vital job of recruitment , theres plenty to be done as i dont think we have many players who will manage in the prem , i would like a experienced director of football to help him in that respect. Also vital is a review of the whole sports medicine/conditioning side ,as we must improve on the amount of injuries we suffer and the length of time players are missing , when you look at the top clubs it seems their main players are always available . Good luck Heck , can nice guys be winners ? Lets hope so cus he usually comes across as one in interviews

I was one of the people wondering what the board were playing at, giving the youth team coach a 5 year contract as manager in Nov 21. He managed automatic promotion form last season and looks like getting it this season.

Looks like thr Board got it right...

Lucky board!

It was the cheap option because indeed money was running out, but to be fair, they probably saw something in Heckys style/philosophy behind the scenes that allowed them to give him the job

Fair play, but we all know Hecky inherited some good experienced players which definitely helped him and at least in one of the windows the board backed him (Anel, McAtee and Doyle)

Personally, regardless of the whys and wherefores, huge credit to Hecky and the squad for gaining promotion (I know it hasn't happened yet) and especially during recent tough times with all the distractions going on

With new owners eventually and the usual shelf life of football managers the 5 year term still was a bit of a farce. Unless there are break clauses in it if we wanted to sack him as quick as we did Slav that's a long contract to pay off!

Can't argue with the decision, we came close last season after a poor start before he took over and are on the verge of securing promotion this season so he's done a very good job.

I remain unsure about him in the Premier League and wouldn't be surprised if he is out of his job by Christmas, but that's the world of football management. He's earnt himself a good crack at it in the Premier League and hopefully there is a bit of money to spend on strengthening the squad because without which we will badly struggle next season, but that's for us to worry about in the Summer, not now.

Still think that Heckingbottom doesn't get the credit he is due. Can only assume that he was instrumental in bringing Anel, Doyle and McAtee to the club.
He recognised that we were short of pace across the park and quickly put it right.
Had he been able to make some signings in January I'm sure that we would have challenged Burnley for the title.
He has not been scared to give youth a chance and been prepared to drop the likes of Norwood, Fleck, Mcburnie and Sharp.
Whilst the entertainment value has not been as high as recent times, it is a result driven sport, and he has certainly delivered on that count.
It is worrying that the ownership wrangle has still not been sorted but it's certain that Heckingbottom will be here next season and he knows where we need to strengthen.
It will be sad to see some of older players go but again Heckingbottom won't be afraid to make those decisions.
His big test will be how wisely he spends the clubs money, we can't afford to waste it like we have done previously.

Agree...he's an average manager (which is OK) but has some strengths that really suit us for this season.
He's been at the club years, so knows the club inside, also knows all the players and young players really well.
Did well to bring in his Sheff Utd based backroom team of Stuart McCall and Jack Lester, both down to earth Yorkshire people.
Hecky has handled the media, ownership distractions and crowd expectation really well. He's played everything with a straight bat showing little emotion,
excitement or disappointment at any time keeping everything nice and calm.

However if Hecky was sacked don't think any other Championship clubs will be interested.
He had a nice job at United being the manager of the Academy. This was a pretty secure log term job.
Hence why when he was offered the United job, he made sure it was a lengthy contract, so if and when he was sacked he would receive plenty of compensation.

An interesting discussion point that deserve it's own thread is how suitable will Hecky be as a Premier League manager.
Simon Jordan was talking on Talksport the other day, saying that it can be tough for owners because some managers
can be great in the Championship but quickly out of their depth in the Premier League as it requires a very different skill set.

I have a slightly mixed opinion. I can't lie and say there haven't been a number of games this season where I've had issues whether that be tactics or subs, and I can't lie and say that doesn't worry me. Particularly games where I think we should be much more attack-minded (like the good days under Wilder). I was livid with the way we approached the Luton game. At the same time, we've barely managed the same back line two weeks running this season so maybe my idea would've been a disaster.

What I will say is that his recruitment this season has been incredible. Ahmedhodzic, Doyle, McAtee...you can only say he's unlucky to not have got even more out of those lads than he has with them picking up the odd injury through the campaign. He's also improved players that were here. How long has it been since a McBurnie hate thread?

His run of results isn't even only this season either. You can go back to when he took over a team on its knees and way underperforming and since then it's been promotion form.. If he'd taken over a bit earlier maybe we'd be reviewing a Prem season right now. And he's done it, in my opinion, with one arm tied behind back through injuries, and then the other one tied back with it when we hit the JTW.

And since we all love a bit of "Bladey Bladiness", I do like looking at the dugout and seeing McCall and Lester. I like there being a bit of a legacy in the coaching staff with people who know the club.

Overall, I'm not going to sit here and say I have full confidence in him. I'm a bit sceptical about him managing in the Premier League. But he's batted away every criticism with results. We play some good football, we aren't afraid to stick a boot in where it hurts, and we look dead set for the promised land with a bonus semi-final to go with it. Honestly, it feels weird to me because for all my doubts about Hecky I've been dangerously confident of promotion for a long time now.

Made me laugh because I agree.
Notice Hecky always seems to be chewing his tongue and making gurning facial expressions, also loves a drink of water during interviews.
He also starts his replies saying "look"

I always used to love and prefer Chris Wilders interviews, so honest, informative and passionate.
However CS was probably too emotional, so when things are going well it's great to see but when we're losing it can be painful viewing.
Where as all of Hecky's interviews are the same, doesn't reveal much, but it's safe and works on professional level.

He’s been immense

as I’ve said in previous posts - would have been interesting to see how pep , arteta- etc would have got on in heckys situation

He has just about secured the clubs short term future with little help

Well done Hecky

and a little scratch to the right hand side of his neck??

I presume he will want a new contract with higher wages?
