The vitriol and bitterness directed against certain candidates hoping to land the manager's job leaves me cold. It appears to me that tribal rivalries have replaced the interest in the game itself. Whilst non of the candidates fill me with joy, or the expectation of a good season ahead, I don't care if an applicant has played for or managed club X Y or Z, and yes, that includes our city rivals.
How far are some of you dissenters prepared to take this "rivalry?"
Do you not have relatives or friends who support a team other than the Blades? or do you direct abuse towards them also, and cut them out of your life. For what it's worth, I had several uncles who spent their Saturdays at Owlerton, I sure wish they were here now.
Genuine rivalry and banter is one thing but some of the recent comments made on this board disgust me.

My mum and brother are pigs; no shunning from me... more pity than anything.

My sister-in-law is Welsh and her family are trying to convert my neice into a Cardiff fan... I've offered to buy her a pig outfit... at least she'd support a Sheffield team.

Including Harry Maguire?

He is neither a relative or a friend to me but I have noticed you trying to develop this as your comedy punchline though.

Mrs Pinchy - "Darling, have you seen the nail scissors?"

Pinchy - "What about 'Piggy' McGuire...?"

(Cue liberal dose of raucous canned laughter....)

Very 'Where's mi washboard'-esque but keep working it in to your posts and I'm sure it won't be long before trendy pissed-up students will be yelling it the length and breadth of Whitham Road.

Maybe they'll be in the carpark today with the rest of the numpties?

Well since Quinn came good there's been a yawning chasm where 'elpiton' used to be. Can't believe he'd use the example of an 18 year old kid, who has been pretty immense for us so far, to fill it though.

It illustrates in a couple of words the hypocrisy of this ludicrous anti-Wilson hysteria. No amount of sophistry will alter that simple fact.

Hypocrites.

Thought about you this morning Mr Pinch as I was driving to work. A Blade was interviewed on RS and said Wilson was a bad appointment because 'he'll try and play football and that won't work at Bramall Lane, it never does. We're a team who fights and scraps'.

Still think "We  hoof" is a load of shit though!

For the love of god. Can we just take away with pig thing for a minute and rate him as a manager. So he has a bad record, he spunked money up the wall at Bristol City at the level we are playing at. He has 2 promotions in about 15 years and more relegations.

Now stick the pig thing back on, it is just the cherry on top

I hope to god it works, I really do but what are the chances

I didn't think managerial records were important? I thought that was why so many wanted Mark Robins.

My first post on here, thought i may as well start with a hot potato!

Although i think the fact he has wednesday connections are annoying people I think whats more getting peoples back up is what he represents as a manager, he represents a reversion to type for McCabe, a manager with success firmly behind him, 10 years behind him! After listening to McCabes interview a lot of fans were under the impression we'd be going for a more dynamic appointment, the likes of Tidsdale, Hill, RDM or Robins, someone who's stock was rising, not falling. I'm sure if we'd appointed Sheridan, there would have been a few grumbling about his connections but I think the majority would have been excited.

Wilson is staid, unexciting and has no real sense of potential about him, add in the fact his cross city connections and I think it just brings to the surface a lot of emotions that have been bubbling under for a few months now.

It's really gettin on my thruppennies to see people try and whittle it down to the Wednesday connection alone.

For me, it's the following:

- Entirely uninspiring long term football management record. And immediately awful management record
- Style of football has got poorer with time. From a Bristol City supporter on 365 "If you like negative football with the ball booted into space in the channels, Wilson is your man"
- It splits the support base from the start and creates a negative atmosphere at the club
- It makes no commercial sense in that less indecisive supporters will be likely to renew or buy tickets

It's a terrible and quite bizarre appointment.

Bookers Mullet - Spot on! Excellent post, exactly why so many are underwhelmed by his "supposed-not confirmed" appointment

Not seen or heard anyone else criticising his playing style. I'm taking it as a given that the style of play will be easier on the eye than it has been under Robson, Blackwell, Speed and Adams and definitely better than it would have been under Robins.

I'm guessing that the play-offs would represent a massive success to most people next season. Wilson has very recent history of achieving that with a side weaker than ours should be next season.

Going on what Swindon and Bristol City supporters have said.
