Whoever Johnson played for when he got sent down would make more sense in this particular joke.

Edited 🤦🏻‍♂️

The thread wasn't started to pour scorn on child abuse victims and apologies if it came across like that, unintentional - it was started to show the poster in the picture has a made a joke (a popular one by social media standards which probably tells its own story) but a joke that might hold an uncomfortable truth or at least a view on how our club is perceived by other football fans.

Have we actually employed more than our fair share of un-savouries Vs other clubs?

probably more of a backlash from jealous fans as we are the new media darlings... I can't name many clubs who haven't had their share of bad apples in the past... I can think of 2 for us - Ched (acquitted though), Madine any one else?

We had that lad who was caught on camera nicking from handbags.

The joke doesnt really work because Sheffield United have never employed a sex offender before.

I read the Tweet slightly differently. I took it to be a reference to Chris Wilder signed talented players who’d behaved badly in the past, Morrison and Rodwell. Still tasteless I agree.

I think you have indeed put you finger on something here, and unfortunately, I suspect it derives almost wholly from the Ched Evans episode - regardless of any rights or wrongs, it’s what a lot of people continue to retain as a perception - that the club stood by an “unsavoury” person.

No, let’s not mince words. They stood by a convicted rapist. Yes, his conviction was subsequently overturned but at the time he was released the club didn’t know that was going to happen.
