Promotion at Bramall Lane? We’ve won it at Northampton 16/17, without playing/at Cardiff in 05/06, at Leicester and at Darlington. This has got to be a question for the over 60’s branch of blades hasn’t it??

I remember waiting for the Hull result to come in when Porterfield was manager. Hull still had that game in hand.

70-71...I think.

We ended the season with two home games, beating our closest rivals Cardiff 5-1, in an almighty show of intent. And then, on the last day of the season in party mode, in beautiful sunshine, wrapping it all up with an easy cruise control 3-0 win over Watford.

I think Stewart Scullion hit the bar before we scored...and he made such a nuisance of himself that we bought him in the close season.

That’s my memory of it, anyway. I could be wrong. I was only 14 and it was a blummin loooong time ago.

Yes , been a while since we won promotion at the lane
unless leeds lose and draw one of their next 2 we wont get it again
if they win one lose one wed be there but for a massive goal swing

also if we win all 3
and norwich win 1 lose 1 and draw 1 we win the title on gd both on 91 points

If that's true, then I didn't realise it. Mind you I was only 11 and maths was never my strong subject . Silent?!

We were 4 points clear of Cardiff with 1 to play but they had a game in hand so mathematically we needed a pont against Watford. 2 points for a win.

We can’t do it this year either.

If Leeds lose their next game and we win, a win against Ipswich puts us 6 points clear but they have 2 games left and play after the Ipswich game.

It can be almost sealed barring a remarkable turnaround in goal difference, but it can’t be guaranteed.

You're correct but I would be off my head celebrating as no way would they swing a 6/7 or 8 goal difference at Ipswich.

Should be more than that. It’s currently 6. If we won our next two and they had a defeat, it’d be 9 minimum and that’s assuming all the results were 1-0.

We could leave them needing double figures.

Must. Beat. Hull.

Didn’t we win the 4th Div Championship at home to Peterborough. I remember going on the hallowed turf at the final whistle .....after watch the closing stages of the game from the touchline.......or had we won it before then?

Yes thats the last time we won promotion at home and able to celebrate at BDTBL although it was great to receive the league one champions trophy at home wasnt it ?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Porterfield has ever managed Hull.
Porterfield was our manager at the time. Blades finished on the Saturday, Hull City had a game in hand. We waited for the Hull result after the game had finished.
Hull then went to Burnley in mid-week needing to win 3-0, but only managed 2-0.

But they would have 2 games to get them. And we'd have to lose to stoke.

Beat Villa 3-0, and Ipswich 3-0, Utd lose 3-0 at Stoke, Leeds up on goals scored.

It would be a VERY Utd way to end up not going up...

In 1981-2 We didn't win promotion at Darlington.

We were already promoted some 10 days before that game following Peterborough's defeat in a midweek evening game at Hereford. This was the day after we had beaten Rochdale at Bramall Lane.

We did win promotion at Bramall Lane in the 1970-1 season. We beat Watford 3-0 on the final day of the season.

Fondest memories - on the pitch at BDTBL slapping JOE SHAW on his back in 1960, and that amazing night at Turf Moor to see Burnley act out the Alamo in much the same way as Wigan did yesterday. Those Burnley players would never have done it without the thousands of blades fans bursting their ear drums. Wow - this game that drives us from the pits of despair to the heights of ecstasy - an exquisite kind of madness.BLADES PROMOTION 1960.jpg

No, we were already up.
