So even our wonderful almost all-conquering team of 2017 couldn’t overhaul their record total of 93 points in a calendar year.

Hopefully their record will never now be beaten as we won’t darken the doors of the lower leagues ever again (impossible to beat that total in the higher leagues)

What a magnificent, entertaining, high-scoring, match-winning team they were and managed to sustain it beyond 1989 too.

Their place in Blades history is secure.

Except they didn’t play the same number of games and the 2017 team got more points per game. For me that’s the only way to make a fair comparison.

It matters not as they’ve both performed exceptionally.

The 2017 team were far better to watch than the 1989 boys, but I do wonder just how good we'd be now if we had the Deane and Agana of 1989 up front. They would rip teams to bits.

If we had Deane & Agana we would probably be at least 6 points better off, would have liked Bradshaw at RWB also.

Mouth watering thought,a leader like Stan at the back would be nice, that blonde haired lad at right back would have done a job in the 2017 at rwb

And to think we kicked off our 1989 centenary year with a 3-1 defeat at home to lowly Chesterfield with gentleman Stan getting sent off.

I don't think we signed Bradders until about September 1989. I remember him getting a mixed reception due to his Wendy past when he came on as sub in a 0-0 draw at Plymouth.

Yes, unbelievably we got promoted but lost 6 out of 8 games against the four relegated sides.
