"Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is a target for Sheffield United after his move to Celtic fell through." (Daily Mail)

If Celtic can't afford his wages, I can't see that we'll be able to. I'd love to see him at the Lane though!

If we can get him for free, we should be able to afford his wages, plus you never know he might accept lower fees especially if he's getting on a bit now, but a fantastic player still.

If he rejected champions league footbal he isnt likely to come to a relegation batter unfortunatly.

And you think playing against crap Scottish teams who couldn't even survive in the Championship is something he's looking for?

What if he's looking for a new challenge? Trying to keep us up would be a new challenge for him, plus I wouldn't start saying we're in a relegation fight yet Sharpy, the season hasn't even begun.

If he has turned down champions league football and bigger wages than we can offer why would he come to us? I know it sounds negative but the realism is we cannot compete with the money being offered by other clubs (charlton, fulham etc) who are after him. And although wigan and West ham wernt in a dog fight i think its pretty much widely accepted by united fans that we probably will be.

Try being positive for once in your life.
We supposedly had a team that was too old last season and look where that got us, Promotion.
The season hasn't started. We could start with 10 points form the first 4 or 5 games, we might not. But I know i'm thinking we can rather than we can't.
We can do a West Ham cos we have the determination and we have as much quality as West Ham did last season and theres still time to add more to that.

jeezzzz what do you want me to say? Every single bloody team who is promoted's main aim is to stay up, for most of them that invloves a relegation fight. What do you want me to say? We will get into europe? Stay up easily, and im also pretty fed up of being called negstive when its said by 99% of blades fans that we will be fighting relegation, even warnocks said it. Our aim is to stay up next season, nothing more.

F*ck me.

both these are relegation candidates IMO, so why cant we compete with them?

I'm not saying it's gonna all be roses.
It's everyteams aim to stay in the div they are in or get promoted. So thats the obvious thing to say.
I'd say it's our aim to play good football and ty for as higher place as possible.
It may only be 15th but it's a better and more positive way to look at it IMO

The club has admitted that they have prepared for the cost of going down should it happen, so even the club thinks there is a chance that it can happen. The thing is it doesnt have to stop us trying to negotiate with players like Hasselbaink, who knows what he could end up doing. I haven't seen an interview with the man saying he turned down Champions league football, there are many factors in a move up to Scotland that could put him off. I cant see why we cant have a go at trying to compete with other teams in the prem for players, regardless of what they are tipped to do (apart from the obvious likes of Chelsea, etc)

So if he's available on a free there is room for negotioation with him, sure odds are against us in the eyes of the media, etc.

More teams in For him so chances getting slimmer.

On the point of Money no one has ever said what the transfer budget is properly and with Mccabe investing in companies with the backing of the Royal Bank of Scotland it could be a sign of our financial clout in a very positive way.

SHEFFIELD UNITED manager Neil Warnock last night ruled out any bid for Dutch striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink but revealed he would like to sign at least two more players before the Premiership season gets underway.Former Leeds United forward Hasselbaink had been linked with a move to
Bramall Lane after failing to agree terms with Scottish champions Celtic earlier in the week. Told he no longer has a future at current club Middlesbrough, his agent Humphry Nijman confirmed there were three English top-flight clubs ready to hold contract talks.
The Blades, Portsmouth and Fulham were all touted as possible destinations, but Warnock insists he has no plans to move for the 34-year-old.
"I think Jimmy is a very good player and we would be delighted to have him in our team but we are not interested in signing him," he said. "We have not looked at him and we will not be looking at him because he does not fit into what we are looking for at the moment."
Hasselbaink would command around £40,000 a week although Warnock insisted wages were not the reason behind his decision not to pursue the player.
The Blades' squad has already been strengthened through the signatures of David Sommeil, Li Tie, Claude Davis, Christian Nade and Mikele Leigertwood and they have also been linked with a host of other names, including Port Vale's Trinidad and Tobago World Cup star Chris Birchill and Crystal Palace midfielder Ben Watson.
Warnock, however, is in no rush to enter into the transfer market once again and while ruling out any moves for Birchill and Watson, revealed he owed it to his current crop of players to give them a chance to prove themselves in training.
"I am not interested in Birchill and while I did look at Watson, we already have our midfielder now so nothing is going to happen there," he said. "I do want to sign a couple more players before the start of the season but who we go for will be determined by what gaps we need to fill in the squad.
"I would like to keep the players we already have but I am not sure everybody wants to stay. It does not always work out that way. I have had a couple of offers for one or two of my players and we will have to wait and see what happens between now and the start of the season.
"We are all excited about playing in the Premiership and I think I owe this current crop of players the opportunity to prove to me in training that they are eager to play for Sheffield United."
United's players returned to training earlier this week ahead of the kick-off against Liverpool on August 19.
"The players are actually ahead of where we thought they would be in terms of fitness," he said. "In fact, had we known they would be this far advanced we would not have asked them back in so soon."
Blades midfielder Garry Flitcroft has been forced to retire due to injury.
Flitcroft joined the Blades in January on a short-term contract from Blackburn. The 33-year-old made six appearances for United.

Not convinced.
He's hardly set the world alight this season and looks like a good player on the way out to me. Lost a bit of pace and looking slightly more chunky than he used to. Could be an expensive mistake!!

thats what i was thinking. I think there are younger players who have alot of potential to be good players and perform in the premiership. I would prefer to take a cheaper risk on a younger lad with lot's of hunger than take on an expensive risk in jfh.

id rather spend more money whos going to last longer than him.

i think its just a smoke screen

If we are going to sign fat blokes past their footballing best on big wages then for five grand a week I'll give it a go!:D :D :D
