Player Suggestion Harry Darling

Darling may be the better at CB but Dunne is much more in the mould of what we need, would complement what we have better and possibly transform us at set pieces. I've also seen him have good games at CB and would fancy him now, in the form of his life, to come into a good defensive unit and rise to the challenge
If having Soutter in the box for set pieces couldn't get us scoring from them, then I doubt adding someone who's smaller and less dominant in the air than soutter would do a great deal in transforming us at them.

Would love to sign Dunne at the end of the season. But strictly as a right back. He's not much of a centre back, we really should take QPR fans' word on that.
If you do / don't sign players on the strength of other teams' supporters' views, Utd wouldn't have signed a lot of their best players over the previous 10 years including JOC, Egan, Fleck and BBD.

I blame the royal family. People born around the same time as Prince Harry (early 80s) lijed the name and gave it to their own kids 20 years later. Hence so many Harrys in that generation. A similar phenomenon to the huge number of Davids (including me) among the Boomers. We were all named after the Queen’s Uncle David.
Same here. I was born in 1984, same year as Bon Jovi's rather excellent debut album was released.

🤥

Don't get this! I rate Darling who has potential all players get a signing on fee paid throughout there contract. Why would he demand a big one ! done nothing in his career yet to be worth one..
Are Brum trying to frighten us off if true they are giving it the Billy big bollox! they have American owners who seem in a rush .
We will have a price for him if we want him ! Our way of doing business seems to be changing the Clarke deal was done very quickly! American influence or what?.

He demands a larger than normal signing fee because he is available on a free in the summer.

Why would he sign for us without a decent one if he can wait 5/6months and get more of a market when he’s available for free in the summer. He creates more of an auction for his services between clubs who can put the money into a signing fee that they don’t now have to pay to Swansea.

The closer to the deadline without a signing at centreback - the stronger his and Swansea’s position (if they aren’t desperate to cash in) becomes in what they can demand

How can Brum not be busting FFP ?
They got a massive sell on from Bellingham when he went to RM, don't know if it'll cover all of what they spent but I wonder they're gambling on being promoted this season unless the owners are willing to stump up more money to cover their losses if they don't get promoted.

I have liked the look of Darling on TV and I do actually like a defender who fannies on the ball a bit, his long long passing can also get us forward a lot quicker, particularly with BBD as a target. But when he has been up against us, he seems to have been turned over a bit and I can't see he would displace Anel or Robbo on any grounds other than form. He would seem an obvious option to replace Anel at the end of the season however if we don't go up and if we do go up, we know we will need a deep deep squad particularly in defence. He doesn't offer that bit of pace Anel has however.

We won't have a top 2 standard CB pairing then

Souttar's injury has probably wrecked our season after all, at least from a top 2 perspective

We're going to have to start scoring goals
Aye
If only we’d used the transfer window to sign a couple of forwards (from PL clubs) , had our top scorer returning from injury, & had a young prospect (allegedly) coveted by the current best team in England.

It would take the mother of all bottle jobs for them not to get promoted from the position they're in.

The obvious thing for me, given that we're clearly minted if we can spend £10m on a fifth senior striker, is...why not both? We only have one centre half contracted past the end of this season.

Tend to agree, and even players in the "good for Championship, not good enough for Prem" category should be easy enough to sell on in the summer provided we don't put them on silly wages.

Probably be the biggest league 1 fail of all time if they don't get promoted after spending all of that money in the summer, especially as they haven't been top all season, Wycombe have been top a few times this season when they had Bloomfield.

They've broke the L1 transfer record 5 times in the summer I think, and that top 10 L1 transfer list still has Brayford (Blades), Will Grigg (Sunderland) and Britt Asombalonga (Peterborough) on it.

The ultimate intention is promotion, I doubt that these two are good enough for the higher division. Sign one to get us up then move him on

Souttar hasnt scored in the last 3 seasons for Stoke, Leicester or us while Darling has scored 9 for Swansea

Sell-on was only £6m.

But I've had a look at League 1 & 2 Rules.
The limit is not on losses.
It's on wages v turnover and bizarrely equity injections and donations by owners are included in turnover !

So wealthy owners can spend like mad in L1 on both fees & wages.
It doesn't matter how big the losses are in the accounts.

But when they get to the Championship , the clubs losses are limited to £39m over 3 years , as we know.

I didn't realise how uncontrolled a L1 club is , if its owners want to chuck money at it.
