His one big strength was in winning duels. Going forward he’s ordinary, and he’s not big enough to be a centre half.

Maybe we should credit Wilder more for making a team out of players who have since struggled?

Yeah I saw him but it was just six matches and that's not that many to judge. Look at Bindon as an example. I'm not saying Clarke is great but it's as a squad player and we can spend the remainder of the budget on areas that are more pressing and with players who will start most likely. Seriki isn't highly unlikely to be displaced so we don't need to spend big to buy a back up. That's my logic anyway.

Apart from thst weird 1st half v Pompey, I thought Clarke was ok. Tried to get forward, very good in the air. Nothing spectacular but I thought he was a small upgrade on Gilchrist

But it seems unlikely he'd get or stay fit.
