Agree, he was always wanting the ball, combative in the centre of the park and helped out in attack and defence. If we put someone alongside him who can pass..ie Williamson then he will do even better.

Great to hear! Its about time he raised his game, sounded like Howard huffed and puffed, but got nothing but a booking for his efforts.

Think he's been getting better and better in the last couple of months. Pity the midfield has constantly been unsettled by injuries.

He was playing against his former team, it's a bit like knowing an ex girlfriend will be drinking at the same pub as you so you wear your finest shirt/trouser combo and concentrate a little more on your hair ;)

But in all seriousness, Reading keep Federici interviewed before the game making a point of how good a player he is;

"Adam Federici believes that James Harper wanted to stay at Reading and confessed that his departure to Sheffield United left a big hole in the Royals camp.

But he was shipped out on loan to tonight’s opponents United in August to help balance the books at Reading and Federici admits that the 29-year-old has been missed.

He said: “I’m pretty sure he would want to come back here, but that’s not the case and that can’t be done, but we just need to get on with it and deal with it...... He’s a fantastic player and it was sad to see him go, he was also a voice around the squad as I’m sure all you all know. We always hear from James, we can here him talking up in Sheffield!”

Also got a booking for our players with his histrionics. Twice he rolled around then got straight up after getting the free kick, without so much as a limp.

We have defo got the best deal,Harps was good tonight and that run he made in the first half was the Harper i used to see.
He always looked good against us and he is finally finding that form for the Blades.
Blackwell, let him lose, take the chains off him.

I thought despite the 3-0 win our midfield centre pairing were poor for most the game today and let them have far too much time on the ball. Harper is showing signs of getting better for me but stilll a long way to go to be good enough for a side looking to get promoted.

Harper is getting better all the time. He is a proper footballer.

Monty was atrocious tonight. I can't recall a single pass to a teammate. His lowlights included a classic Monty sky-high hoof to himself, a free- kick which was intended for Wardy in acres of space and about 15 yards away that went straight and true as an arrow to a Reading player and a glorious 40 yard back pass to no-one that went for a corner.

Don't give me any nonsense about what his job is or is not. The man can't do the fundamentals of a footballer.

Quinn was only marginally better. The sooner we move on the better.

Sorry. Enough is enough. Get rid.

As stated in the other thread... Harper advised Bunn on where to go for the penalty.

We wont move Quinny on he's just signed another contract. woeful again. How he stayed on the pitch is beyond me.

How about the pass for our first goal, that dropped right on Fortune?

It was patently a hopeful punt!

You choose mediocrity if you like. Defend poor footballers at every opportunity if you wish.

I want better.

If Reading had swapped us Harper's jock strap for Howard we would still be quids in.
Sadly I was way out in the "how long for Fordy to get booked" sweep last night as I went for just 10 minutes (and I thought I was being cautious) and it took him a full half hour.

Ahhh, I see.

Had it been Jamie Ward, would it have been a "hopeful punt"?

He crossed the ball, right to Fortune who put the ball in the net.... Yet that's a negative point and we should expect better.

You said you couldn't recall a single pass to a team mate, I picked one which I thought might have stuck in your mind... How exactly is that defending anyone or not wanting better?
