Hard fought, scrappy but deserved win.

Crowd favourite makes and intelligent challenge and uses his experience.

Or Ex pig smashes keeper in face.

Just depends on which agenda you have. I'll have the first one and three points thanks.

Exactly.

A win, homing in on top spot and still we have to scrap in a heap. Really?

To be honest it went as most thought it would, teams desperate to get a point are going to come and park the bus, time waste , niggle and then try and grab one on the break.

We did what we needed to and that was to win, a repeat against Bury on Saturday, in a game that I expect to be a carbon copy tactics wise, will mean an excellent Xmas return.

Then some bigger tests loom.

If Clarke is used for brute force , it worked
makes a change from us being bullied which has cost us big time in the past, for eg the home play off leg v swindon
where their physical approach won the day

If it wins us points its another way of breaking down a stubborn defence

Misunderstood my post entirely; the point being that ref was giving them most of the 50/50s (in my opinion) and I am surprised he didn't disallow the goal for a perfectly honest CF vs GK coming together.

If he had neshed the challenge and not put the keeper under any pressure would you have slated him for that as well?

I am not and never have been a 'Leon advocate' but if anyone tells me he didn't make a difference today I feel I must defend him.
As far as I know, CF and GK coming together isn't classed as foul play unless the CF is deliberately trying to prevent the GK getting to the ball.
The ball was a millimetre away from Clarkes forehead (on highlights) with his eyes apparently looking straight ahead.
Any collision with GK was a result of a perfectly fair attempt to head the ball.
Maybe other refs would have given a free-kick, but it still wouldn't have been a foul challenge under the rules of the game.:)

Fucking hell Dronnie, don't dare criticise one of the little darlings or you'll have the tofu mafia jumping all over you.

I have an agenda, I think Clarke's fucking shite, and one 30 minute cameo won't have me dashing to the store to buy a shirt with his name on the back.

Credit if he made a difference today, and fucking marvelous that we got three points but wait and see how much he contributes between now and the end of the season before the wankfest. If he suddenly becomes the main man, great. Just not too sure he has the wherewithal to be honest.

Can you show me where anyone is taking part in a 'wankfest'? All I see is some of us acknowledging that Clarke does and can play a part. Nobody has suggested he is the main man or ever will be.

I'm amazed by how many people who can't read properly on this forum, or just see exactly what they want to see.

He definitely looked capable for this division with both coventry and bury
scored plenty, hes yet to hit those levels yet here ,but I wouldnt write him off

Certainly not his biggest fan either and he still has to run those trotters off for me. Having said that, I thought it was his best spell in a United shirt.
He often looks languid and lazy but I thought he put a shift in today. His touch was good, he put defenders under pressure and my only criticism was the relatively easy chance he missed, when it looked easier to score.

Others were a bit off the pace too today with Duffy ineffective in the first half, but as the game wore on they all got stronger

Three points, clean sheet and Scunny drop two points. What's not to enjoy and the ale should taste that little bit better tonight.

I read words but I see...

I love games like that. Oldham certainly didn't look like the worst team in the division. They marked up and fought for every ball but we were just too classy for them in the end.

When did Ryan Flynn become a midfield hatchet man?
Oldham worked so hard and matched us for a big chunk of the game. Good to see Leon make a difference by holding it up and giving our midfield a bit of quality ball to play with. It will be good if Clarke, Lavery and Done each contribute to support Sharp.

Wilder said in his interview that Oldham looked a different team to he side that played last week and I guess that's typical league 1, talented but inconsistent players throughout most teams.

Agree entirely about Leon but I thought he was excellent today.

Not only that but some of his link up play with Billy was exceptional today.

Could be the start of a very rewarding partnership.

Great save by Moore to his right when it was still 1-0.
Yes, and he's done that a few times now. Bugger all to do all day but makes good saves when needed. Add the communication, which you can hear half way up the kop and I'm sure it helps the whole defence to look tighter

You're easily 'amazed' my friend. Must admit I'd have preferred 'outraged', everybody seems to get 'outraged' at the drop of a hat these days. Where the fucking hell's the outrage?

Come on Blades, George Michael died yesterday ffs, where's the outrage?

Oh and I still think Leon Clarke is a fucking lump.

What a strange way to avoid the question. It would've just been easier to say that there's nobody claiming that Leon Clarke is a world beater than type out all of that random nonsense.
