I was there in that shanty town they call a terrace and didn't even care it was rain of biblical proportions :)
oh and my mate and me were first back in the pub too :D

I know it gets called Bobby Davison day but for me this was the pinnacle of the Gayle/Beesley CH partnership. They were magnificent against, what must be admitted, was a very good Wednesday attacking unit. Aside from the spawney deflected goal they scored, and having a few punches thrown at him by the vermin on the piggy kop, I don't recall Tracey having to do much of note.

It was a great night and so many similarities as in the lead up to Bouncing Day. Bouncing Day shades it for me though as it had so many special moment.

Still puts Bouncing Day into 2nd place of greatest games watched.
Only just mind

Agree there ,
The only reason Bouncing Day wins , is because of the national and international audience our superb free flowing football , magnificent support when they could all get in , and the utter humiliation of the pigs in there own death trap .
Mind you only saw Danes goal at that game , as we got turfed out for being on there end.

Agree better than bouncing day because we beat the Pigs in the top division on their own turf and put paid to the outside chance they had of winning the title. Also over 10k Blades there to see it, no problems with trams in those days!

We'd rode our luck in the first game when they had the better of it thats why they were convinced they would win the return. What they didn't expect was that we would match them and outplay them. Paul Rogers had been signed in the January transfer window and he was everywhere that night Pigs never got a kick in the middle of the park.

We beat probably the best Pigs side I have ever seen in all the times I've been watching the Blades. We beat them at the Sty, outsang them all match, balloons, flares, flags the lot. Just to make it even better got home after the match and the full game was on Yorkshire Television.

that only because they actually gave us more tickets
had we had 6000 to 8000on bouncing day
had we been in those numbers imagine that

both are special
after 6 years in the wilderness and being told wed never handle being in la liga with the massive spenders

compares to it being a top flight affair

I loved that evening! Football special bus up to the sty , great atmosphere all journey , brilliant backing from us , great kit , proper weather , just f**king brilliant. Completely lost my voice . After DW goal some guy lit a red flare then gave it to me . Thought I was a proper “man” (still in my teens) giving it the big un , flare in one hand , middle finger salute with the other ! Life was good ! Forward to next day , piss taking and general merriment all day til The Stir came . Big photo of said “ big man” , flare , finger and all !! Said “big man” brought rapidly down to earth by church going parents !!!
Well worth it though !!!
As ever UTB !

What a night.
Piss wet through, our seats were at the front of Leppers Lane, directly under a leaking roof.Still not been repaired, (Shit ole).
Looking like drowned rats me and father in law went in the Five Arches pub on Herries road, packed with Wendy,s who must have been in since half time because they were dry!
Ordered 2 pints, and without a word, turned round in unison and raised our glasses to them and said cheers lads!!
Downed the pint in one and walked out singing Bobby,Bobby Davison.
No re-action from anyone of them,i think they were all in Shock.
