79 today. What sort of striker was he.
One of my all time favsStrikers for Birmingham in the 1970's Bob Hatton, Trevor Francis. Bob Latchford.
The latter two went for big money transfers. Bob Hatton could be decribed as a 'journeyman' footballer.
But his goal scoring record wasn't far behind the other two.
He'd be first name on our team sheet if he was playing today.
That night when he scored the winner against Arsenal in the League Cup, think we were 4th division at the time? One of my all time favs
We were in the 4th yes. Took it to extra time at Highbury. Eventually losing 2-0. Great player was Bob Hatton. That night when he scored the winner against Arsenal in the League Cup, think we were 4th division at the time?Lost the 2nd leg obvs

The book he is reading is about Wath Wanderers. A feeder club set up by Mark Crook, that produced not only Hatton but Ron Flowers, Steve Daley, Alan Sunderland and Peter Knowles amongst loads more. Well worth reading about. An unbelievable success story.79 today. What sort of striker was he.

Sorry there was three Hipps in the songBobbys got his hat on Hipp Hipp Hurrah
I remember the club. I was a school mate of Steve Daly who was signed by Wolves from Wath W. and later went for a million quid to Man. City. The Wath Wanderers is an interesting little anecdote in the history of football. The Dearne Valley was all coal mines and villages. Sport and particularly football was a vital part of people’s lives. The book he is reading is about Wath Wanderers.
