Hard to read his body language and/or facial expression without a telescope but he was heading straight off, either inconsolable or angry or both.

Adkins stopped him on the halfway line, put an arm around him, and pointed/took him over to the fans.

I think Bash joined in as well.

He did come over and applaud, which I was glad to see.

We toiled manfully for 90 + minutes and he would have felt that he let his team mates down. Not saying he should feel this way but that's the way it goes.

On TV he was absolutely gutted and seemed angry with himself. He had a great game up until that point. Good to see Adkins put an arm around him.

He made a mistake.

Ever played in a game of football?
Normally i'd agree. A handball like the one away at spurs last season, a miss timed tackle or a miss placed pass, even Coutts was a mistake...Due to lack of concentration

However, lets tell it like it is, Hammond was stupid, like Doyle in the Cup two seasons ago. Hammond made a decision to run a long way to not cover the position and stop the cross/ shot but to make a stupid tackle.

We move on though

He did let his team down, why would you dive in like that?
Well, I'll have a stab.... Opponent steaming into your box having just taken out his marker, covering man (Coutts) otherwise absent, you are coming across at speed and judge you can play the ball and not man, putting it out for corner. Split second decision required, timing not spot on, opponent goes down and (tries to) makes it look worse. Ref happy to decide the tie without inconvenience of replay.
I'm sure his teammates don't feel let down in slightest after all the effort they and Hammond put in. These things happen.

He made a mistake, put your hand up if you have never made a mistake. He didn't mean to make the mistake, so of course he was upset, he knew that all the previous hard work had just been undone. I for one, am pleased it upset him so much, it demonstrates how much he cares. Same for Billy Sharpe when he went off, its good to see that playing for the Blades means more than a wage packet.

And as I said, he made a mistake.

Let down his team mates and fans though? Come on.

He made a rash challenge, as anyone who has ever played a game of football will have done.

I certainly have, plenty of times.

I imagine he feels pretty shit himself this morning already.

Not seen the replay but at the time, I thought Brayford was at least as much to blame as Hammond.
Brayford tried to "nick" the ball and failed, the cheeky fucker, but he had backup

Hammond tried to tackle, he also had backup, he's just a fucker

Stay on yer feet

No, Manchester United move on.

Its semantics, but I would say that a mistake is something unintentional which goes wrong. Hammond made a premeditated decision to run full pelt at the lad and slide in. He made it easy for the Man U winger, all he had to do was make sure Hammond made contact. Even easier for the ref to give the decision.

In the 93rd minute of 96 and at Old Trafford it is simply stupid to dive in like that.

He's not let his team or fans down, but he's let himself down

25 million pound opponent who hadn't yet broke sweat ,against a player from 2 leagues below who had concentrated ,organised and run his bollocks off for 94 minutes ,split second out with the timing. If he had gone on to cross and score Hammond would have been slaughtered by the same experts and semi pros who would have done a better job diving in and nicking the ball.If Hammond had nicked the ball none of this would be going on ,its what they would have done too. Get a bit of perspective. I hope we sign him.

My next question is, having apparently play semi professional football, how can you come out with the complete bollocks above?
Took the words out of my mouth Pete, if he's played at sp level, genuinely, he'd understand.
Methinks he fantasises....

I think Brayford is great, but if everyone is apportioning blame, then Brayford has to take some responsibilty his initial challenge , was totally mistimed, and led to Hammond having to come across, ok it was a mistimed tackle, but in the 93rd minute would anyone not try and block a cross, had the cross gone in who knows what might have
Happened. Fine lines and all that.

There's been a tendency in the last couple of games for wingers to waltz through our right flank - look at Peterborough's winner for example.

I think it's a slight weakness in the side that we have Coutts and Brayford on the same wing - Coutts always looks shattered towards the end and Brayford, after a long lay-off, also falls away a bit.

But both Coutts and Brayford were covering behind Hammond.

Hammond should have used his head and stayed on his feet - at Old Trafford everyone knows the refs cant wait to give spot kicks at the sight of a broken fingernail, let alone somebody sliding in.

I still think he has been decent lately (just still looks a bit off the pace for me at times).
