Outgoing? Hamer

It is useable anyway as it can be used to borrow against although we would incur interest charges

It is not like running a corner shop

Regardless of the fee, I think this is a killer transfer. With Brooks & now Hamer gone, with seemingly no money to adequately replace either of them, I genuinely don’t know where our supply of goals and assists come from. We’re going to lose a lot of games 1-0, teams will draw our sting, score and then I don’t know how we unlock a team. Going to be an absolute disaster, this season. We’ll really do well not to be in another relegation battle. We are weaker in every facet of the team than we were last season and that was wank enough.

Have we not seen what running a club like a game and not a business leads to … take a look at our neighbours , things aren’t ideal but what is ? This summer was always gonna be a massive challenge and reset … it was a known 30m shortfall plus tighter financial rules so what’s the club supposed to do you’ve all got your own solutions … good luck Hamer , for me good money and let’s hope Coventry stay up cos that’ll be the add on bit of the deal

A Poxy 6 Million - City are holding out for 75 million for Rodri. It feels like we are on a par with the likes of Oxford.

Man City are backed by a gulf petrostate. Have infinite resources and Rodri is one of the best players in the world - with zero questions about his form or fitness. And he’s just won the World Cup while being voted as the best player there.

It’s Hardly a reasonable comparison to make is it? We are a million miles closer to Oxford than we are to Man City. They are operating on a different stratosphere to us.

It’s not a great fee - but about the best we could do with 1 year on his contract and no money.

We can kick and scream all we want about the fee, unfortunately given the set of circumstances it’s about par for the course.

Aging player
Wants to leave, refusing extension talks
Last year of contract
Sellers need funds
One interested party

We won’t replace with anyone close to his ability, the hope has to be someone that creates a better more balanced 11.

Don't know about losing 1-0 I can see a fair few 3-0 and 4-0 defeats.
At least there shouldn't be too much Badge slapping going on, small mercies I guess.

Bigger picture, I think we will be in the bottom quarter of the division. Simple as.

We have poor to non-existent recruitment, very little creativity, no discernable patterns of play, and a reliance on loans which we know, is pissing what money you do have away.

The only good that can come from this is that we have to blood what youth we have, Oné gets a proper chance and we have to get back to playing clever tactically and developing systems. Because previously we replaced "Give it to N'Diaye" with "Give it to Gus".

Great post but as things stand even I'm pretty pessimistic on this seasons chances of success and I'm generally very positive. Having the strongest three relegated sides for many a year doesn't help neither and selling our best two players to be replaced with loans is hardy inspiring.

We can't just rely on loans and frees every season. The permanent signings last season were mixed last summer too of course.
Cant argue against anyone being pessimistic, its more the complete negative narrative with nothing positive to say.

Hamer going isnt now making us relegation. We will bring people in maybe 1 full signing and loans. I dont think we will make play offs, but we wont be relegated.

Wilder will be a lot different having a full season.

Has anyone thought about it might be mind games being played from wilder with him saying hamer not engaged in contract talks with us .... maybe hinting to him we will sell u if U don't ect ....I have heard so many times he's happy with us ect ...got mates who see him most weeks shopping at Aldi in dronfield and they say he's always happy n chatting with them ....I know press are saying bids rejected ect ...but there maybe a outside chance he signs a new contract???
Or maybe he's just a nice personable guy?

Let’s be honest £6m isn’t gonna get us a lot even if we had any intention of replacing him which I highly doubt, these new owners may have the right intentions but clearly don’t have the investment available to them, they need to be looking to sell because before we know it we’ll be in league 1. They’ve been a total disaster so far for the club and they’re own investment.

Is literally what I've said?
Brooks - sold - replaced by Donovan (not ours)
Hamer - sold - replaced by BBD (likely on loan).

As per Danny Hall's article, the funds generated from those sales are covering the shortfall....
That's called balancing the books, not asset stripping.

Much as I love Gus I think last year he didn't have the heart, probably because of the quality of players we had. Think he will be a different player at Coventry

We actually had a better win percentage in games he didn't start last season.

He can turn a game on its head in the blink of an eye, but we didn't miss him last season like people are making out.

Total disaster ?

Really 🤔

They supported Wilder in their first year - Wilder et al brought in some good players , Cooper , O’Hare , Kiefer , Burrows etc - the board backed Wilder in their Jan window , he signed Cannon for 8/10 million , hardly the boards fault .

The team and manager blew it there after - again ,hardly the boards fault .

There was a real upswell of Wilder out following the playoff final - the board decided to change direction - appointed Selles and spent circa 15/20 million on dross - they can be fully blamed for that fiasco .

They reappointed Wilder , backed him in their Jan transfer window and the team fell way short . Poor signings again - boards fault ?

Now we have no parachute payments , tighter financial controls exist , money not available in quantities that were .

We are at a crossroads- August isnt finished yet - but I don’t blame the board for everything

Having ruminated on this for a while it’s in line with my expectations.

I reckon we’ve still got a £5m shortfall. Selling Peck for £10-15m is the key as that gives is the funds to reinvest.
Interest in Peck from PL clubs will be less than if he hadn’t got a drink driving conviction. It will have put a question mark against him.

GLTTL . Really enjoyed watching him at times and a very good player on his day so it’s a shame he’s gone . But we move on and let’s hope it frees up some wages for a couple of players .
Cheers Gus it’s been a pleasure!
As ever UTB!
Well said.

He was fantastic in possession and great to watch on his day, but he also had a suspect temperament, gave the ball away cheaply in poor areas, and was hopeless out of possession.

Broadly speaking I think the good and the poor just about balanced each other out, but I will really miss seeing the good bits.

GLTTL

Good player on his day but there’s been loads of instances where he should have stood out and didn’t, games where he should have made the difference and he went missing.
