good ill take that. unless there is a significant change at the very top anytime soon. Championship will do for me, i want us to win every game i really do but if that means promotion again under this leadership / chairman its a no from me. Championship will do very fine thank you ill take a 7th place finish next season.
At the moment I'd be happy with 17th next season

The player will inevitably have the final say.

He won’t be impressed with his newly reduced championship wages !!!

UTB
Even those "newly reduced Championship wages" will be considerably more than his previous Coventry salary. It's only natural though that he'll want to explore any Premier League interest.

I don’t know the exact figure but it’s in the low to mid 20s.
Which is a considerable increase on what we have paid for him, somewhere between 50% and 100% more.

If they're no good, then get rid. There's no place for sentimentality in football. This is half the reason we're such a small minded club, as we lack ruthlessness. Loyalty gets you nowhere.
This is a big truth, and it needs addressing

It's not only sentimentality either. Whatever the hell it is that has led us to keep Coulibaly for example..... yeah, let's get rid of that please

It can be hard to make decisions and part company with players sometimes but timing this correctly is crucial and can make a huge difference. The best time to part company is rarely the most obvious time to and that needs bearing in mind

This is where I feel a director of football comes in. Wilder and Hecky both like to get stuck in with "the lads" on the training pitch, but because they get so close to the players, I feel that sentimentality and loyalty takes over for key decisions where they could've been more ruthless in cutting players on promotion.

A director of football would make the choice on stays and who goes. These decisions would be made based on performance from the player and potential for the future, whether we can bring in a better replacement, whether we can make a profit on them, whether we could reinvest the wages/fee better etc. All of the decisions would be football decisions, not personal.

If we had a director of football last summer would we have given Fleck, Basham, Osborn and Norwood new deals? No way, absolutely not a chance. I'm not saying our recruiment would have been better as the amount of funds made available was the punchline to a bad joke. But we'd have gotten rid of deadwood when it needed getting rid of.

In the past.

Again, stop living in the past and live in the now.
He says when pointing out "flops" like ampadu and Ramsdale who will be premier league next year. Brewster undoubtedly is a good championship striker pre injury unfortunately I think that's not worked out for us or him (yet)

BBD and Holgate are good loans considering we were down and clearly saving money in January
Grbic is a flop.

This summer is a rebuild year that I think it it's a success will be as huge an achievement as he previously had with us in league one and those first two championship years combined!

BBD and Holgate were signed with valuable funds which could have been used to rebuild the team in the championship.
They were a total waste of valuable funds.
Wilder has claimed that he as manager of the club carried out the relevant due diligence on our new keeper; subsequently he has again wasted money

If Wilder did the due diligence on Gbric he should be dismissed without notice for a gross breach of contract.
I can't believe he admits to that.
It's like saying he can't recognise a dud when he sees one.
I'm hoping it's just his diplomatic reaction to the question "did you watch Gbric before buying?".
I hope to God he didn't.
If he did , he should not be in charge of this summer's rebuild.

£70k per week for Holgate - £700k for 10 weeks , jesus - do we know how to chuck it away.
We are just not realistic are we ?

That should have read 7th DOH
17th seemed strange position even for all the doom and gloom merchants on here. I get 7th, no playoffs and no automatic promotion to crazy ville. Maybe with serious consideration, 7th might be okay.......we'll see who we bring in first.

I agree. I think it’s time for a DoF or similar. I love wilder for what he’s done and wouldn’t rule out him having another magic season. But he is a single point of failure - it’s amazing when it’s going well, but there’s no safety net when it doesn’t.

The club does some things very well - academy and youth recruitment for example - and we’ll always be a club players at this level want to play for because of the fan base and history. A good DoF should be able to implement a reasonable strategy over 5 years with these basics in place.

holgate was a waste of money he wasnt going to keep us up and isnt worth 10k a week let alone 70 southampton found that out his and the grbic signing were ridiculous wastes of money

DoF are a bad idea. Pick players based on committee and it becomes impossible to manage. As our summer transfer proved, I believe Hecky had very little input. Other clubs is chaos due to this are Everton and Burnley.

That is the definition of arguing!
The point being that the alternative opinion I offered was not my own. Therefore I’m not arguing with him. I don’t have an opinion on Hamers release fee. That because I have idea what it is.

Even blind squirrels will find a nut!!
I've never seen a blind squirrel alive. Can you prove this fact? Sorry, but this is a Sheffield United message board and we don't just listen to any old conjecture. WHAT'S YOUR SAUCE??
