Welcome to the new era...
Hamer can't speak to any club he is under contract.
How much is the release clause? It’s in Hamers hands. He has a pretty low release clause
Thats what the contract law says,,,,,,i wonder if Hamers agent who will know all the details of the contract has been dropping info to other clubs about the "release clause" figure.Unless of course the club and by that I mean the owner gives him permission due to agreeing a fee
Personally, I’m hoping it’s bollox. He’s one of the few out of our shite squad we need for next season
It’s in Hamers hands. He has a pretty low release clause
Same wilder who brought in the players who made us a club that could even dream of having 22 million to spend due to his impressive additions to our club I assume?£7mil profit for a player that we signed one season ago, I'll take that so long as all £22mil goes to Wilder.
Well, I say Wilder, I'd rather punch myself in the nuts than trust Wilder with signing players, but you know what I mean.
He was good in League One and the Championship when he had a moderate budget. As soon as he was given significant money to use he squandered it on expensive crap, the majority of whom were released or sold at significant losses. I don't trust him with signing players anymore. I don't trust him as a manager anymore. I never wanted him back.Same wilder who brought in the players who made us a club that could even dream of having 22 million to spend due to his impressive additions to our club I assume?
El Accounto says different. Substantially more than what we bought him for. It’s in Hamers hands. He has a pretty low release clause
Mcburnie, mousset and Berge all his signings who did a job and all for significant for us, amounts imo. Of course some flopped. Every single club has this.He was good in League One and the Championship when he had a moderate budget. As soon as he was given significant money to use he squandered it on expensive crap,
Agree with a lot of your points. However, I do think he's come back with a bit of a different mindset for next season and although I do think we need a freshen up across the whole club, I'm looking forward to see what occurs this next season. Judging by his interviews regarding needing players fit and fighting, we've seen a some of the old boys head out the door and a pretty stern message to players who clearly don't want to be here. There's new recruitment staff in place too which hopefully sees an improvement in that area. A freshen up of recruitment strategy along with some signs of that ruthlessness you mention, I'm hoping it should be a decent window. Move on Anel and Souza, we may keep Hamer, but if all 3 go, that should realistically be a good 35-40m to bring in some new players with experience, fight and ambition. Big, big summer ahead. He was good in League One and the Championship when he had a moderate budget. As soon as he was given significant money to use he squandered it on expensive crap, the majority of whom were released or sold at significant losses. I don't trust him with signing players anymore. I'll back him next season but he's on thin ice for me as he's a stubborn dinosaur stuck in his ways and devoid of fresh ideas. I don't care what he did for us in the past, I care about what he does now. Success 6 years ago does not excuse mediocrity and poor performance now.
Same with players. I don't care if they were good 4 years ago, I only care about if they're good now. I take each season as it comes and will judge managers and players on their current performances. If they're no good, then get rid. There's no place for sentimentality in football. This is half the reason we're such a small minded club, as we lack ruthlessness. Loyalty gets you nowhere.
McBurnie has scored 26 goals in 5 seasons, 11 coming in one season where he didn't even finish in the top ten in the division. A poor signing overall for what we paid given his lack of goals, constant injuries and lack of discipline.Mcburnie, mousset and Berge all his signings who did a job and all for significant for us, amounts imo. Of course some flopped. Every single club has this.
If we had a top 6 championship budget with a decent squad to begin with I would be very confident going into next season. As it is no idea of our budget but worried how much of a squad we will have to start with and how big s challenge that would be for any manager
So the core of a side that got us up and to 9th in the premier league and then up again aren't good enough and never were.I've never been a fan of Berge, McBurnie, Norwood or Egan, all of whom I think are massively over rated by our fans. I used to like Fleck and Stevens but after the restart in our first Premier League season they were unbelievably poor in the seasons that followed. Sadly that's tainted them for me as they had more bad seasons than good.
They were good BACK THEN, but they're not good enough NOW.So the core of a side that got us up and to 9th in the premier league and then up again aren't good enough and never were.
I think you need to adjust expectations.
I don't have the time to read all that but your argument was that Wilder can't be trusted to sign players...yet players he did sign were good enough as you say...They were good BACK THEN, but they're not good enough NOW.
It's got nothing to do with adjusting expectations. Too many of our fans will rate our players as good in a match, just because we won, when in reality they were average or poor.
Which of those players who took us up and are still here as are still as good now, or better than they were? NOW.
Again, I don't live in the past, I see what's going on now and I'm not afraid to criticise players when they're poor and I won't make excuses for them because of what they've done in the past. The past doesn't count for anything now if you're crap now. Is Anel excused for giving up every match and throwing in the towel just because he played well last season? Hell no. Get rid.
I'm sick of people harping on about our last promotion and staying up. It's been four seasons since then and we are a worse team now with worse players, and many of those older players are worse now. Wilder himself has receded and is a shadow of his former self, stubbornly stuck in his ways. Best manager in my lifetime? Certainly, for what he did in the past. Right now? A potential washed up has been.
Sue me.
My expectations are consistency. That's all I ask. Give me a team of players who can put in a 6/10 - 7/10 performance every game with the occasional 8/10 and I'm happy. What I can't accept is 4/10 - 5/10 most games with the occasional 6/10 - 7/10.
I've said it before, results don't bother me. If I was bothered about results then I wouldn't go to matches and would look up the final score later. I pay to watch a game of football, to be entertained. If I watch a good game of football and we lose then I'm not that grumpy as I enjoyed watching the game. If we win, then bonus. Of course I want us to win.
If we play poorly or average most games and the matches are dull but we win, then I don't walk out of the ground buzzing, as I gave up my Saturday to travel to Sheffield, paid a lot of money to walk 90 minutes of crap. It's why I didn't enjoy our promotion under Hecky, as the matches were largely boring and crap other than a 20 minute hot streak. It's why I stopped going when Blackwell was in charge.
That doesn't make me any less of a fan, that's just my personal choice. Football is supposed to be entertainment.
In the past.I don't have the time to read all that but your argument was that Wilder can't be trusted to sign players...yet players he did sign were good enough as you say...
BANG ONMcBurnie has scored 26 goals in 5 seasons, 11 coming in one season where he didn't even finish in the top ten in the division. A poor signing overall for what we paid given his lack of goals, constant injuries and lack of discipline.
Mousset only scored 5 and couldn't manage more than 60 minutes. We paid £10mil and released him. That's a huge loss.
Berge for me is one of the most over rated players I've ever seen. On his day he was unstoppable, but the problem is that his day wasn't consistent. He'd be great one game, meh for the next two and anonymous in another. He would play well every 4-5 games. I expect better that that. Give me a good performance for 4 out of 5 games and I'll forgive you for the one off day. Berge had more off days than good and yet our fans hero worshipped him, as mediocrity seems to be the acceptable standard.
We made another loss on him, albeit because of the contract situation. There hasn't been one moment of this last season where I wished we'd still had Berge. I couldn't care less about him. He was inconsistent and unreliable as a result.
One day I'll look back when someone mentions these players and I'd just shrug. I'll add to them my list of "oh yeah, they played for us didn't they." None of the three are players I'll look back on with fondness.
Sorry. That's just my take.

Back in the day, they where but not any more ,its like leaving a pint of milk in ya fridge for 12mthsI don't have the time to read all that but your argument was that Wilder can't be trusted to sign players...yet players he did sign were good enough as you say...
The player will inevitably have the final say.
He won’t be impressed with his newly reduced championship wages !!!
UTB
Too many fans look at players from a personal point of view, instead of a football point of view, football moves on yet we have fans saying "he's been great for us" and "you're forgetting what he did for us" etc, time moves on, what's best for the team and club is what matters, looking forwards, not looking backIn the past.
Again, stop living in the past and live in the now.
2019, his signings were poor on the whole and we made losses on all of his signings. Only Henderson and McBurnie played regularly with the occasional cameo from Mousset.
2020, his signings were poor on the whole and we made losses on all of his signings, but for Ramsdale. Only Ampadou, Brewster and Ramsdale played regularly, and Brewster and Ampadou were poor.
2024, his signings have been poor but for BBD on loan. His one permanent signing has been a distaster.
Should we ignore all of these because he signed some good players in the season prior to these?
We'll have to agree to disagree. I'm happy for Wilder to prove me wrong but I just don't see it. I don't have any faith in him as a coach, a manager or when it comes to transfers. Sorry.
He'll not answer you, he just likes too come on and chuck a negative nelly hand grenade in then sit back watching stuffing his face full of popcorn. How much is the release clause?
good ill take that. unless there is a significant change at the very top anytime soon. Championship will do for me, i want us to win every game i really do but if that means promotion again under this leadership / chairman its a no from me. Championship will do very fine thank you ill take a 7th place finish next season.Oh dear!!!!!! Lets get this clear. The money now needed to survive in the Prem is ridiculous. You simply must have a minimum of four world class players in your squad.
Brighton, Brentford, survive because of their scouting network, not having extensive academies. If Wilder follows his no " Johnny Foreigner" philosophy, and continues his present course, we will be in the Championship for a while.
You're not alone. Most won't say what you said on here for fear, maybe too strong a word, of being called a Pig etc. Wilder had some great seasons, does that mean he can reproduce it next season? Maybe, maybe not. But he has the reins and it'll be his team next season. Recent signings do suggest doom and gloom. A new recruitment team maybe what was needed. I've said this before and I'll reiterate, if we haven't signed someone on the first day of the transfer window, then I'll feel it's same old, same old. Wilder is talking about he knows what he wants, who he wants. Waiting for June 14th..I think that date is correct. In the past.
