I don't get it, I really don't.

Why are these idiots trying to force a rivalry?

Why are they on here thinking they're winding us up?

Why would you jump on another club's forum immediately after getting promoted? Most other fans would be celebrating.

I don't think it would be right to target them all with the same brush (although one of the idiots thought it would be OK to wish us all dead because some neanderthal put their mate in hospital over a decade ago) but they do seem to have an unhealthy proportion of melts.
 
A bit gutted, I really liked Gus, on his day he was a brilliant watch, and our most talented player.

That said we often didn't seem to quite fit him into a formation all that well. trying to get him and O'Hare into the same team never quite worked, despite their chemistry. His defensive ability didn't suit him playing in a wide position where proper tracking back is a requirement, his disciplinary situation was a cause of amusement, you could tell 5 seconds before when he'd decided that this was going to be yellow card time... Given the contract situation the sale sort of makes sense I suppose but it's a bit of moot point until the recruitment (hopefully) turns a corner.

But a top player and a good lad. Will miss the sense of anticipation when he got the ball, especially if the opposition had given him some space. I remember once when sat on the BLUT with my daughter, Gus had picked the ball up 40 yards out and I told her to stand up and get ready, Gus beat a man, cut inside and curled a shot directly into the corner right in our eye line, was brilliant.

I think it's the combination of:

1. Thinking he was due a bigger move than little old Sheffield United when he left. As if the move offended them, or was seen as a sideways step, and if he was too good to leave Coventry, he ought to have been better than SUFC.

2. Then, added on top of this, we take their next star in O'Hare after his contract ran down and after they had rehabilitated him from a serious injury. Again, how do little old Sheffield United have the audacity?

3. Then, their insistence that he loves the area, loves Leamington and loves a night out in Fizzy Moon in town. Their sense that he adores the area and adores their club.

4. Which, going on the above, makes sense. They've had very few "one of their own" types for a long, long, long time. It's not quite the same as Billy Sharp captaining the Blades, but it's the closest they're going to get.

They're desperate to be back in the big time, desperate to have a sense of someone adoring their club so much that they couldn't wait to come back, they were desperate for Hamer to move on from little old Sheffield United because the move was never quite good enough, and now for added spice they were desperate that that move just so happened to be a return to them.

They'll get over it eventually. A player can have affection for more than one club.

Spare a thought for me, mind, living down here. It'll hopefully quieten down for you lot soon, I have to live with the ongoing jizzfest whether the locals always know that I'm a Blade or not.

I reckon that they'll be quiet enough in a couple of months when reality hits home.

There are two realistic scenarios for Coventry, but neither involves Hamer becoming a key Premier League player. The truth is he hasn’t shown he’s at that level. We all saw him in the Championship for two seasons and in the Premier League before that, he’s a good footballer, but not a top‑flight one.

If Coventry go down, which feels more likely than not, Hamer probably stays put. At 30, he’s not attracting big-money offers, and he’s exactly the type of player a relegated club keeps: experienced, settled, and unlikely to force a move.

The other scenario is Coventry somehow stay up. If that happens, Hamer becomes surplus. There’s a reason no Premier League club has come in for him. Would Sunderland or Leeds take him now they’ve stayed up? Would he improve them? No.

Coventry have signed him because they admire him from his previous spell - and that’s fine. It’s nice he’s gone somewhere he’s loved. But football fans are fickle, and that affection only lasts as long as performances do. I’m not convinced the honeymoon period will stretch very far.

Because everyone in the midlands ignores them. Leicester, West Brom, Wolves, Brum, Villa - all have proper local rivalries and everyone ignores Cov. Same issue with Hull & Boro.
 
I think most of us expected Gus to go this summer, and Coventry were always going to be the only Prem team in for him because of the nostalgia factor. £6m-ish is a decent deal for a 29 year old in the last year of his deal with his best days behind him. Cheers Gus!
 
I liked him as a player & seemed to be a decent guy so a definite GLTTL. I would have liked him to stay but not to be, but has a silver lining that the weird Cov fans will melt away back to insignificance.

I find that very hard to believe. I got a load of rubbish on here for saying his best and favourite position is in the middle as he can then go left or right. But when you finally played him in the middle you saw the difference.

It isn't Coventry that's melting into insignificance. Your owner is ruining your club just like what happened to us.

He one million percent specifically asked to play on the left and saw it as his best position. That's from the man himself. Many of our fans wanted him in the centre but Wilder wanted to keep him happy and Hamer loved playing on the left. I still don't think we got the best from him there personally but Gus would likely point to the fact he won Championship player of the season there. He considers that season the best of his career in terms of performances.

The only reason he left us was to play in the Prem. If you remember he was going to watch our games until your management stopped him.

We have never missed O'Hare. All fart no shit. Good player until near the penalty area. If the shot isn't in the 6 yard box it will most probably be off target. Torp is everything O'Hare isn't.
 
Liked him as a player and genuinely seemed like a nice bloke- so as far as he goes good luck to him

As for Coventry and their wierd fans trying to start a rivalry with us- the they can go fuck themselves

The birthplace and home of 2 Tone, yet they choose to announce to the world the sum total of their collective aim is to "live and die in this town" when their team runs out.
 
Personally, I'm more annoyed about Brooks going. Hamer is a fantastic talent, but his lack of fitness and unwillingness to track back meant he left us exposed defensively. If losing Hamer enables us to sign Souttar, then I am OK with this, although obviously, I would rather have both.
