Theory and a super large wedge of Wonga.Sounds good in theory but in practise, will it work at SUFC?

PeckWhich key players have recently extended their contracts?
In the last few years which ones have gone our way other than when players were breaking into the first team?
And is that the manager or the investment the owners have to offer?I can’t tell you something that hasn’t happened.
I can tell you who has left with one year or less left on their deal, for a far lower price. None of which we ever really replaced.
Ndiaye
Berge
Anel
Bogle
And now, Hamer.
We also let one of our most expensive signings ever, Oli McBurnie, walk away for zero.
We got McGuinness on a 5 year deal.We probably need to be stricter in how we operate contracts. For example sign a player on a 4 year deal. If they don't want to renew after 2 seasons then look to move them on, no fucking about waiting til the final year.
Maybe with Gus we hoped Leeds were going to give us what we wanted price wise last summer and it didn't happen.
Leicester have / had a DoFSo Carl Scheiber then!
That’s basically what he does, what you outlined there.
If we call him that will everyone stop suggesting this is some sort of silver bullet?
Remember that terrible season Spurs has last year -> DoF.
It’s about getting quality decision makers into the club and outing those that aren’t. Call them what you want.
I’m surprised Hoyland and Allen are both unscathed after last season’s mess.
Paid £15m for him, everyone expecting us to get £10m. He's at least halved in value, £5m at best
BollocksCallum Wilson, James Madison. I'm in my 40s and yet despite spending the last 25 years outside of the top flight, we've still spent more time in there than you over that period. It's 100 years since you won anything![]()
Exactly.I understand all that. However, how can you physically make someone sign a contract they don't want to? You seem to be implying United are so badly run that they don't even try. I would find that to be highly unlikely and almost laughable.
Brooks was then other one.Having said that, I'll miss him as he's the only player we have that excites me when he's got the ball.
Yes, I said which weren’t breaking into the first team.Peck
I never said who it was, you’re just inferring I’m blaming Wilder, when I’m not at all. We had the same issues when others were manager and it’s not really their job.And is that the manager or the investment the owners have to offer?
I’ll give you a clue. It’s the latter
Start spreading the news…Hes leaving today .....

How much will that cost. The owners can even plan a club buffet, never mind get their head around all that lot. They won’t even find the academy until they get the Premier League coin. What makes you think they are prepare to invest in such a wild and fancy exercise like that ?
Even if they were to try a DoF, evidence suggests it would be a faux version - just like Bord was a faux version of Brentford’s model. Cheap and nasty is the owners choice. Fly by night and hope for the best.
All fluff and no substance.
Those loan players were on big wages Then spent 300 plus million to stay up by the skin of there teeth for the first 2 yearsJust a reminder Steve coopers forest went up with half a squad of loan players. Bring in 4 quality loans from prem and you never know it might give us the financial boost needed to properly build the squad.
I mean we wont get 4 loans but I tried...
Pre contracts from January only apply to international transfers. Domestic can't sign until mid May.Lets hope so. Then its done and everyone can move on. Its best all round. Coventry sign the player they want (cant help but think its more the romance of bringing back an ex favourite for a 'bargain price' and bringing him 'home'), the lad gets a bumper pay rise and a longer contract for financial security for life (probably his last chance to get such a deal), United get a reasonable fee for a player in the last year of his contract who doesnt want to engage in contract renewal talks, and we save money from his existing very decent wages. Whats to say also that Hamer wouldnt go through the motions if we turned it down, knowing that he can sign a pre contract with Coventry in less than 5 months time?
The above aside, personally speaking, i dont want a player to be at the Lane playing for us, who doesnt really want to be here. Not good for the player or club, he doesnt want to get injured as he wants away, whilst everytime he doesnt play well he would be accused of not putting the effort in etc and doing ' a Lunny'.
Hes a luxury player for the championship and on his game he is really good. He also has many days when he isnt 'on his game'. Id have liked the lad to stay as a fan, but once it waa clear he wasnt entertaining stopping longer then a decision to move him on has to be made provided the money offered isnt daft. The £5.5m (if true) isnt brilliant but then we are dealing with the above mentioned realities and in the circumstances, its probably best for all concerned to take it and move on. Lets use the money to bring in some younger quicker more phyisically robust players who can last more than 60 mins a game.
Bertieblade, personally I wouldn't take it and let him go at the end of the for free...he might have changed his mind in that time and signed a new contractWhat if they only offer £3m
Atm moment with Coventry signing 2 new MFs he'll be coming off the bench and not startingI think it will be 5/6m unfortunately. Bargain for Coventry
Leicester have an amazing off field set up, including huge training facility. And are a one city club with the council hell bent on helping them.Leicester have / had a DoF
Works like magic.
But it used to be great when Walsh was ghere. Suppose it’s a bit like having a sht manager in wilder now.Leicester have / had a DoF

I think if it was just 5/6 million hé wojkd have been gone by now. If it’s 3 midfielders yhey have brought in maybe they can Chuck one at us to sweeten the dealAtm moment with Coventry signing 2 new MFs he'll be coming off the bench and not starting
Now that I can get on board with.Leicester have an amazing off field set up, including huge training facility. And are a one city club with the council hell bent on helping them.
So they should be smashing it.
BUT
Their DoF is hated (Rudkin, no relation). Their demise tracks back to poor player recruitment for many years after the title win as they chased European football (Brendan Rogers era).
As far as I can see the main success factor in modern football is good player recruitment. That is what we need, however we decide to go about it. Wilders mates Hoyland and Allen dont strike me as being capable of this.
The rise we had in 2016 was Wilder/Knill getting the best out of Paul Mitchell’s lower league gems. Mitchell got binned off as he struggled to find players who worked in the prem and probably got a bit cosy/had health issues. He is probably the member of staff we haven’t adequately replaced/upgraded.
A good owner who is strategic and on top of these things would probably recognise this. Middlesbrough’s recruitment has been good recently as has Prestons. You probably need to be looking at smaller clubs who are working well in the transfer market and then think about poaching their scouting staff.
This is my main concern really, where's the supply and opportunity creation coming from now? We seem to be focusing all our attention on defensive reinforcement (we do need some), but no sign of replacing the loss of chance creationGoals and assists aren't a luxury, they're a necessity.
Hamer, on his game, is usually head and shoulders above every player on the pitch at this level.
He lacked fitness, discipline and consistency at times, but he was always makes something happen in a game.
Without him and Brooks, we will look very ordinary next season if we don't adequately replace.
Wilder teams don't have an attacking structure. They were totally reliant on the individual magic which we've lost.
