And is that the manager or the investment the owners have to offer?

I’ll give you a clue. It’s the latter
I never said who it was, you’re just inferring I’m blaming Wilder, when I’m not at all. We had the same issues when others were manager and it’s not really their job.

The pattern has been reoccurring through different owners. Same people at the top managing the football club (by and large). The responsibility lies here.

DoF DoF DoF DoF
DoF DoF DoF DoF
DoF DoF DoF DoF
DoF DoF DoF DoF

The panacea that cures all ills.

How much will that cost. The owners can even plan a club buffet, never mind get their head around all that lot. They won’t even find the academy until they get the Premier League coin. What makes you think they are prepare to invest in such a wild and fancy exercise like that ?

Even if they were to try a DoF, evidence suggests it would be a faux version - just like Bord was a faux version of Brentford’s model. Cheap and nasty is the owners choice. Fly by night and hope for the best.
All fluff and no substance.
Wrexham getting Newcastle recruitment bloke, going about it the right way yet we stick to the old pals club

Lets hope so. Then its done and everyone can move on. Its best all round. Coventry sign the player they want (cant help but think its more the romance of bringing back an ex favourite for a 'bargain price' and bringing him 'home'), the lad gets a bumper pay rise and a longer contract for financial security for life (probably his last chance to get such a deal), United get a reasonable fee for a player in the last year of his contract who doesnt want to engage in contract renewal talks, and we save money from his existing very decent wages. Whats to say also that Hamer wouldnt go through the motions if we turned it down, knowing that he can sign a pre contract with Coventry in less than 5 months time?

The above aside, personally speaking, i dont want a player to be at the Lane playing for us, who doesnt really want to be here. Not good for the player or club, he doesnt want to get injured as he wants away, whilst everytime he doesnt play well he would be accused of not putting the effort in etc and doing ' a Lunny'.

Hes a luxury player for the championship and on his game he is really good. He also has many days when he isnt 'on his game'. Id have liked the lad to stay as a fan, but once it waa clear he wasnt entertaining stopping longer then a decision to move him on has to be made provided the money offered isnt daft. The £5.5m (if true) isnt brilliant but then we are dealing with the above mentioned realities and in the circumstances, its probably best for all concerned to take it and move on. Lets use the money to bring in some younger quicker more phyisically robust players who can last more than 60 mins a game.

Just a reminder Steve coopers forest went up with half a squad of loan players. Bring in 4 quality loans from prem and you never know it might give us the financial boost needed to properly build the squad.
I mean we wont get 4 loans but I tried...
Those loan players were on big wages Then spent 300 plus million to stay up by the skin of there teeth for the first 2 years

Pre contracts from January only apply to international transfers. Domestic can't sign until mid May.

Leicester have / had a DoF

Works like magic.
Leicester have an amazing off field set up, including huge training facility. And are a one city club with the council hell bent on helping them.
So they should be smashing it.
BUT
Their DoF is hated (Rudkin, no relation). Their demise tracks back to poor player recruitment for many years after the title win as they chased European football (Brendan Rogers era).
As far as I can see the main success factor in modern football is good player recruitment. That is what we need, however we decide to go about it. Wilders mates Hoyland and Allen dont strike me as being capable of this.
The rise we had in 2016 was Wilder/Knill getting the best out of Paul Mitchell’s lower league gems. Mitchell got binned off as he struggled to find players who worked in the prem and probably got a bit cosy/had health issues. He is probably the member of staff we haven’t adequately replaced/upgraded.
A good owner who is strategic and on top of these things would probably recognise this. Middlesbrough’s recruitment has been good recently as has Prestons. You probably need to be looking at smaller clubs who are working well in the transfer market and then think about poaching their scouting staff.

Goals and assists aren't a luxury, they're a necessity.

Hamer, on his game, is usually head and shoulders above every player on the pitch at this level.

He lacked fitness, discipline and consistency at times, but he was always makes something happen in a game.

Without him and Brooks, we will look very ordinary next season if we don't adequately replace.
Wilder teams don't have an attacking structure. They were totally reliant on the individual magic which we've lost.

They have ooodles more money to play with.
Do you think anyone would move from Newcastle to Wrexham if the money wasn’t the more?
What did Wrexham do before the Disney coin? Did they have a DoF then or did they “go about it in the right way”
It’s not hard to compare and understand the difference.

Now that I can get on board with. 👍🏻👏

This is my main concern really, where's the supply and opportunity creation coming from now? We seem to be focusing all our attention on defensive reinforcement (we do need some), but no sign of replacing the loss of chance creation

if the quoted 5.5m is added to the 3.75m we supposedly still owe coventry its not a bad deal for us and may allow us to up our offer for souttar if not its a very poor deal personally think its more important for the club to get souttar in than hanging on to hamer who lets be fair was very hit and miss last season with a shocking disciplinary record

Unfortunately Wrexham are in a different league to us in terms of finances. It would be great if we could do something similar but it needs a lot of money to do it properly.

We should pay what we think Souter is worth not what they think, that is a sure fire way to admin.

I personally would not pay more than £5m, but fear we are being pushed into a corner as yet again wilder has no alternative lined up.

Even in the last couple of years we haven't done badly with our lower league signings, like Burrows, Cooper and One.

We've signed a number of established players with background from the top two divisions the past few years and that's expensive, especially in terms of wages. They've not all been old like Ings and Mee, but most have been around for a few years and I think most of us have known about them when they signed, like Campbell, Shackleton, O'Hare, Chong, Tanganga, Rothwell, Riedewald, McCallum, McGuinness.

In Matos and Cannon we did try to go for expensive potential, but it seems our assessment of them was way off.

So we've largely gone for established, pretty expensive players, not potential. These types of players may do a decent job (or not) at this level, but they are a) unlikely to suddenly develop into PL players and b) unlikely to give us much of a profit.

Our abroad recruitment has been poor and I have no idea what kind of foreign scouting structure we have. It seems a waste of time to suggest/discuss targets abroad at the moment.

So, yes, agree, we should probably look more for talent in the lower leagues!

Wrexham have to go up this season to sustain the commercial interest. Make no mistake the ‘fairytale’ rise will lose its impact if they can’t take the final step. I maintain that Parkinson will not make it to Christmas.

Callum Wilson, James Madison. I'm in my 40s and yet despite spending the last 25 years outside of the top flight, we've still spent more time in there than you over that period. It's 100 years since you won anything 😂

Why are your fans even bigger wankstains than the pigs? It needs to be studied 💩

We dont owe Coventry anything.

oh right been quoted on here by posters that we owe the last payment of the 15m but if not 5.5m is a poor deal for us even with hamer in his final year i think 8m would have been nearer the mark maybe the 5.5m is enough for us to get souttar ?

I feel down on United full stop right now but this is all very depressing and just shows how badly United have squandered our PL opportunities.

We manage to get promoted to the PL for the 3rd time in recent memory, sell our best two players and then unveil Hamer as our marquee signing.

Cov go up for the first time since Dion Dublin was a lad. He’s since had a total career change and has viewed more houses than my missus on a late night right move trawl. They’re somehow able to persuade our marquee signing that it would be better to go and warm their bench behind their new 30m man than hang around with our bunch of no hopers. All while we recoup peanuts and can’t afford to sign anyone.

If it’s £5.5m it’s obviously not great. But equally it’s probably about the best we could hope for given the respective age and amount left on his contract.

Ultimately when you consider Gus is probably one of the 10 highest paid players in the championship. There’s probably another £2 million saved in wages, bonuses, tax&NI to add on to that.

It will go a decent way to cover part of the lack of PL money.

The owners spent the last little bit of relegation money we had on hiring / firing Selles and like you said a data approach of signing.

If it’s right that we spent a combined £10m on Chong & Mccguiness (the source is Darren Smith so probably take that with a pinch of salt) then we absolutely pissed what we had up the wall

Erm. It’s plain to understand that he’s stating there is no backing from the board and he has to work with the shite they accumulated last year as well as the players that have suffered setbacks with injuries. It’s not hard to understand.
I accept thst but he promised a pre season like no other.. lets see if this promise is on tge moneh.. fitter players that can last longer than 60 mins. Ill reserve judgement. Wilder has given me some of the best football ive ever seen. I just know thats a distant memory and all ill remember is the shite thsts being served up right now. Leagacy tarnished
