In all seriousness, do we even want gus to stay. He’s got two years left on his deal, say he stayed and we got promoted, I don’t see him signing another deal. We’d just have another berge and ndiaye situation where we have to sell our best player for a cut price fee. Might as well make a profit now and reinvest.

Don’t think he’s that good. Be great in the maverick days of yore. Not really now. Just need better.

Can't see a Premier League club coming in for him if I'm honest
He's not fit enough for a start and doesn't seem to have the desire to be a top level player

Can't see a premier league team coming in for the championship player of the year... Seriously!!? It tastes so good when it hits your lips ...fill it up again!!

Not sure what people are going on about Hamer's supposed fitness for? This season he's started 39 games out of the 46 (and came on as a sub in 5, meaning he only missed 1 game) and played 90 mins in 21 of them (more than half). His average time on the pitch when he starts is 83 mins. Add to that he's been played as a winger this season so will be doing more running than what he's been used to in his career where he's always played central midfield. Wish I was as fit as him!

I'll miss him, but he's 28. I wouldn't blame him for wanting to move, he's got the quality to do well in the PL. Just hope we can get enough for him to rebuild a team that can compete at the top next season as we would be losing a big part of our production. We are unlikely to be able to replace him with a player of his quality (at least initially), as any player that good will be looking at a PL/top tier league move.

If he stays we need to extend the contract another couple of years as we don't want to have a firesale next summer with 1 year left.

If I was Gus, I'd ahead abroad.

He has nothing left to prove in this division and can pick up a bigger pay cheque in a less physically demanding league that will suit his style.
Holland, Germany or Italy.

If we can get £20m for him, I don't think we should stand in his way.

A great player, full of entertainment, but I always felt our side looked a little imbalanced with him in that wide position.
You can't replace Gus like-for-like in this division but utilise the funds wisely and we may look a better team.

Anel & Souza will likely follow him out the door.
Souza is the one I really hope we can keep.

This will obviously been this summer's rumour and inevitable departure and it will be so disappointing. What a truly magnificent player. I wish we had utilised his link up with O'Hare, much, much more. It feels like one of many missed tricks this season.

So please United, hold out for the right price.

When you watch something like this, man, I feel sad already.

A luxury Everton could afford because their tactics wouldn’t have to revolve around Hamer pulling something out of his arse like ours do.

The likelihood is he’d go there, play in his real position and be an asset to them. See also Sander Berge at Fulham.

We need this kind of player to do everything, the likes of Everton and Fulham have good players around them and can utilise their strengths and use others to counteract their weaknesses. We don’t have that luxury.
Involving O'Hare more often might have provided that counter.Along with others utilised in their best positions🙏

If we get rid of Hamer we might have to get a style of play!

Hodges was class but I'd personally prefer Hamer as Hodges was inconsistent, apart from the first half season on loan. That's my view but on his day Hodges was sublime and I know Hamer doesn't perform every week but I think overall hrs pretty consistent.

The greatest loan signing we've ever had. As soon as he got a contract he went on the pop. If I remember rightly he was spotted in the pub before Luton away and then started.

Players could get away with it back then, although it obviously shortened their careers.

I get the impression that quite a lot of our fans, and maybe even our manager, think it’s fine for players to be going out for a few beers. Obviously it’s not ok in the modern game if you want to be successful, and it says a lot about what is wrong with the culture of the club.

Starting with the Banner Blade himself?

Hamer is our talisman. All of this talk about “I don’t care if he leaves” for me is just talk to soften another blow. I really hope he stays, 2 years left in his deal gives us some sort of financial insurance.

But for this club to be successful, like most things in life we need to stick together and that goes for the squad, of course get rid of dead wood, but add leaders, strong minded, head strong players because that’s what’s cost us not individual flair. If we’re not careful we’ll add those leaders but lose our flair and end up like most teams in this division. Mid table grafters.

Agreed. I don't really want any footballers at the club who aren't committed and by being committed I mean professional. No footballer shoot be drinking during the season. They're athletes. They need to act like athletes.

The problem with England is that we have a track record of rather average players going for big fees and being rewarded with daft wages. That sort of thing happens far less often on the continent. It's one of the things that makes the Premier League so attractive to foreign players.

So while I agree that a foreign move could be good for Gus, from our point of view it might mean us settling for a lower fee than he might fetch domestically because clubs abroad will see a £20million price tag on him and tell us to fuck off. I don't think we get that price for him abroad. Iliman went to Marseille for similar or less and he's a far more exciting player than Hamer with a higher potential.

Meh, good but not the best we’ve had. MGW and Ndiaye were bigger losses. Would have helped if he’d shed a stone or two. In fact, if Cannon gained a stone or two in muscle…..

Not so much about the lose it’s about the replacement. The fact he got Player of the Season (although a shock) should pump the price.

Just hope it’s not in Wilders hands to spend it.

Feels the right time to cash in. Not in the same league as Ndiaye and we got on alright without him in the Championship.

Think he’s not far off his ceiling athletically and given his build, I wouldn’t be surprised if his performances went off a cliff when he hits 30 like Fleck.

Hamer to Everton, DCL in return.
DCL is supposed to be signing for Newcastle as a free agent.

Also id say people talk about players that have fitness issues in our squad and not available all season/past 60-70min mark then in next breath we are getting suggestions of a player that has massive fitness issues.
